Another fabulous documentary by this team. Watched many episodes and am still wondering what Xanthe Mallett brings to the table. Prof Sue Black on the other hand leaves us in no doubt about her amazing expertise.

They really upped the music and 'drama' in the US version again.

Really getting into these, prefer the UK version though. The USA version seems to add more background music, it's not needed if someone is talking

Once he had taken the king's shilling and swore the oath of allegiance he was a British soldier with loyal brothers in arms and he would be treated as one, regardless of where he came from. It is much the same today. I served alongside a guy from Trinidad and another from Fiji in the army, neither of whom were even British subjects. The British empire might be long gone but there are still ties that bind it seems.

Very true :) yet they didn't actually see themselves as Christians, they may well of swore it in but their faith was their own.

Prefer the British version of this series. The over-dramatic Hollywood-esque narration is highly irritating.

That’s because bones, particularly older bones, often show evidence of disease and trauma. If you watch some of the UK show, there is one with someone who had syphilis and it changes the bones.

@@vickibart3491 no, I understand, and I remember the episode you talk about - I don't know how that young girl lived with such an illness! It just sounds strange to my ear to look at what is undoubtedly a dead person and say they look relatively "healthy" - I suppose I'm being childish more than anything!

Is it just me or is anyone else surprised that the Native American anthropologist kept using the word "Indian" instead of "Native American" or "indigenous people"?
