I built the prototype coin sorter a few years ago because we had a heap of coins laying around the house. I never got around to making "Mark 2.0", until now. Plans are at the end of the video.

it hurts my brain thinking how the rail system works. maybe a up close slow motion clip would help.

Sorry to be slow, but I still don't really get what is pushing the coins off the ledge?

gravity, the coin is held in by the top rail until the gap between the rails becomes bigger than the coin (the rails expand out the further they get from the start) and it falls out.

thats why the hole thing leans forward slightly.

@@mtarrant3 My first attempt failed. Took me ages to get the angle right to differentiate the $2 & 5c, and the $1 and 10c. It was so incredibly touchy for me that when I found the angle that worked I glued around the guide rails while it was clamped in place so that I didn't risk ruining the angle by even a fraction of a mm. I tested it once glued and clamped and it was fine, but by morning something had changed and even the 20c was falling out all over the place. No idea what went wrong. Maybe a wider spacing of the dividers could help me?

Pay attention and respect the blade and you don't need one.
How are you meant to get them out when you need them?

You can get the money out by un-screws the front, its meant to be hard to get the money out so it acts a bit like an old school piggy bank, you know the ones that you had to smash to open.
