I used to be an athlete. From the age of 5 till the age of 22 I pursued the dream of going to the Olympics one day. Since I stopped pursuing that dream (for diverse reasons), I've been struggling with finding a new identity. I've been making a lot of progress, but from experience I can say that its difficult and extremely painful at some moments in time. This podcast was awesome. Thanks Rich

every part of this conversation resonated with me. I'm also glad that some insights were shared especially re: policymaking. I relate so much to her journey of fighting your way towards an opportunity, knocking on endless doors going nowhere, but gathering enough resilience to do it again and again. Even her stories towards the end about her sharing a very personal fertility journey were so impactful. I've found some personal courage to carry on from this discussion. Thanks for hosting and facilitating this great episode, Rich.

In thinking about what a behavioural scientist can bring to a government office (with school lunches being the example used by Dr Laurie Santos), I was wondering if this makes Dr Maya Shankar a socialist, but I instantly recognised that her passion for human interaction and positive outcomes makes her a humanist; and perhaps that is what socialism actually is? And would the rebranding of ‘socialist’ policy as ‘humanist’ policy prevent the ongoing confusion between humane intervention during periods of economic fluctuation (ie. socialism) and the extinction of individual freedom/autonomy that results from the imposition of an anti-capitalist regime (ie. Communism)? In thinking about the concept of student/mentor, I’m happy to say that my mentor is a house-painter; my best mate Ado- so there is some personal disclosure that might give some perspective to any interpretation/response to the questions that I have posed in this comment.
