“I love the old man so much, I wasn’t ready to loose him.” Goddamn, that hurt.
I was blessed to meet Dusty twice. Once when I was 10 years old outside the Cumberland County Arena in Fayetteville, NC. He was larger than life, and stopped to take a picture with my and my friend. Dusty was my Superman when I was a kid. I saw him again when I was 32, at the Commodore bar in the Holiday Inn on West End in Nashville. It was an open mic night and one of my friends drug us all there. I saw Dusty in the corner, by himself at the bar. I normally never approach folks like that in those situations, especially if they are alone, because I want to respect their privacy. However, this time I made and exception and walked over to him. He could not have been any friendlier or cooler. I got to tell him the impact that moment meeting my hero had on me as a kid, and we toasted a couple of Bud Lights. It was brief, as I didn't want to over stay my welcome, but it was a special moment.

That was one of the best moments in wwe history...I remember being brought to tears seeing Dusty with his kids..so proud.
I think most of us weren't ready to lose him. RIP Dusty.

Yep. The fans, young and old, would prefer Dusty being a manager....just for the moments like Cody mentioned....than not have him out there at all. Always. Because he was the epitome of "golden microphone moments."
One of the reasons why Cody is my favorite wrestler. I lost my dad at roughly the same time as Cody and hearing him talk about his love for his father on podcasts helped me deal with my loss too. I met him in Vegas one time and talked to him about it. He's one of the nicest guys ever.

That's literally why tech n9ne is my favorite artist. We lost our moms around the same time and when I met him, I mentioned how his music got me through it. So cool how stuff like this helps us cope. Sorry for your loss James.

What a great story 🤝
man Cody is just a class act, he always has so much respect while talking, even when WWE screwed him he was always respectful about the way he spoke, just a good dude, he deserves all the success!
Respect to Cody. What a story!
That pain Cody has, same pain I had when my mom died suddenly when I was 25. Losing a parent is hard, losing a parent when you’re young leaves a hole in your heart that never heals. Dusty would be really proud of you Cody! You’re keeping his memory alive everyday in AEW.
Probably one of the greatest things I got to do was meet Cody and get a moment to tell him how we both had the old warriors as fathers, and I got it. Cody really is a good dude
Your father would be so proud of you, Cody, for what you've done since leaving WWE and making your own name. RIP to the tower of power, baby.
i thought Dean playing it off like the hat hit him in the eyes was hilarious!

I think a vast majority of people can (or know they someday will) relate to the loss of a man's father. I know for myself my dad's 74 now and it's watching time take its toll. You can see the lines forming on the face, the gradual weakening of a once strong and vibrant person, it's something we all come to know ourselves, but when it's a parent it's a hard thing to accept. When that person means so much to so many like Dusty did, then it's even harder. Cody's a damn good man and his dad was too.
Amazing video. I've been watching wrestling since I was 7 in 1992 and I think Cody and Goldust vs The Shield is possibly my favourite match of all time. The weeks of buildup right up until the Dusty cameo and then the finish - was perfect. I genuinely forgot I was watching something scripted

The end to that match is incredible. Bionic elbow to Dean, Roman goes after Dusty, Golddust throws a block on Roman, Seth rolls up Cody for the 2, Cody grabs for the Crossrhodes. 1-2-3- place EXPLODES. The brothers hug, Dusty stands outside the ring looking like he is tearing up. It is a great piece of relatable human drama. I think it def belongs on the all time list.
I’m glad they had that Moment together it was Beautiful
Shows how times have changed, my last live Dusty match was in Florida when Dusty gave his baby "Cody Rhodes" to a roadie to look after.
I’m currently at work on break and crying
Rest in Peace "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes 😢😭
I know exactly what he's saying about Legends of The Fall. One of my favourite movies, and I feel the exact same way about my dad in comparison to that character.
I loved The Dream as a kid I loved watching Goldust though out the 90's and 00's even still today the rare times he is in the ring. And I'm in love with the body of work Cody has been doing the last few years I'm so glad he became the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Next he should get the NJPW IWGP US Heavyweight Chamipionship 🌎 🇺🇸 I trust with Cody the Rhodes name will keep going strong for years to come. Brought a tear to my eye when Cody was like I wasn't ready to loose him damn RIP American Dream Dusty Rhodes
I loved dusty and I was very lucky to be at this show and I absolutely marked out for dusty I'm so glad it meant so much to him because it was the best moment I have ever witnessed live at a wwe event
I was born after anything dusty Rhodes and I remember him for the hard times promo
Suck it Vince now he's one of the best wrestlers in the damn world
The America Dream. remember how Dusty used to come to my home town Valdosta Ga and go to the radio station and me and my sister would beg our dad to take us to see Dusty if it would be in passing I think that he did take us one day but the street would be crowded and my sister did see a glimpse of him but I couldn't but just knowing that he took the time out to come to our little town was awesome he was truly a one of a kind.R. I.p
That is one of my favorite matches! I loved the story it told!

Yup I said the same thing. I’m 34 from Buffalo, so not exactly from Dusty’s era, and yet I can name 35-40 people my age who live here who are fans of at least one of the 3 Rhodes, if not all 3.
I was there live with my dad for the last few times he could. I also lost him in 2015 the day before mania. may both of rest easy
Son of a bitch! Got me in the end there
The end made me stop doing what I was doing and find a way to cheers with them
I have this weird thing where i'll either talk about or think about someone who's famous only to find out the next day that they sadly passed away. It happened to me with Roddy Piper, Dusty Rhodes and now Pedro Morales just a couple of days ago. Honestly I've always liked everyone in the Rhodes family as in one way or another they helped change the shape of wrestling. RIP to the three men i mentioned, They're all legends in their own right
I'm glad he has some good memories of WWE.
Dusty was relatable. Red, White, and Blue Middle Class working man, a guy that I could see working with in the Steelmill where I'm employed Cody on the other hand not so much. But he's his own character. Totally different from his dad
@DrLipkin

Cody's character is a natural progression of Dusty's. Dusty was the working man who lived the American dream. Cody is the son who does what he has to to keep the legacy alive.
That Battleground moment was the only time I've ever cried about wrestling...it was better than the best storytelling can get
I was there it was awesome
Thank you Cody!!!! Dusty meant the world to me
I cried when he did the bionic elbow.
This is my favorite video on KZread.
I understand not being ready to lose your dad. My dad passed at 56 and it devastated me. He left way too soon as,did Dusty.
I give you all my Respect 👋
Got to love Cody Rhodes

Dusty Rhodes was really the first top guy who didn't look like a "top guy" the original people's champ
How could not anyone seen legend of the fall??? Good movie
Cody's always been so handsome
4 people need to re examine their humanity.
I just want to tell you that many of us in Buffalo are true blue wrestling fans, and those of us who are loved Dusty, and many love Dustin in his various incarnations, and same goes for Cody as well, so Cody may be mistaken that Buffalo isn’t a Rhodes market.
I grew up seeing dusty in Bayfront center..
Whos here after he just won the WWE Championship? ❤️
Cody Rhodes is great 💪
Damit Man 😧😭😖😧😭. R.I.P Dusty
I’d they make a Dusty film, Anthony Hopkins would make a sick Dusty 😂
I only wish I could be half the man Dusty was.
Only reason I watched aew cuz it was Dusty's boy doing big things can ya digg it
3:04 that is why Moxley got hired in AEW
Whoever disliked this video, you’re going to hell
That _was_ indeed a superb match, and when Dusty hit the Bionic Elbow... man, that was _a moment._ Even if Cody admits that Dusty literally couldn't even climb into the ring at that point, you just _knew_ that Dean Ambrose had made a horrible mistake by messing with the American Dream. (Funny to think, Dean copped the Bionic Elbow from Dusty Rhodes and had the new Damien dropped on him by a returning Jake Roberts- you think he volunteers for these moments just so can get the chance to interact with all the legends?) RIP American Dream.
