Code P2308, Ignition coil error

2008 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.8l popped many error codes for random misfire and P2308 which is an ignition coil #3 failure. Found a wet and corroded connection that allowed the circuit to be broken to the coil pack. Instead of the hassle with replacing the whole 10_wire connector, I elected to cut the wires and run a jumper wire to the coil pack. The van now runs good again.

Excellent. I have the same issue. P2308…. Runs on four cylinders… Changed plugs(really bad) wires (one was sorta melted) and coil pack (pristine) to no avail, although they gotta be getting close at 228k miles. I’ll look for a bad connection to ECU. Wiring diagram for the jeep 3.8L is same color. I guess they mass produced the 3.8L and they all have common problems Great tip sir!

Were you able to get it fixed? It seems that Dodge has real poor waterproof electrical connections.

Common issue... If it gets grounded. It will short out the coil drivers from the ECU.. Then you have to replace the ECU.. Simple to test. Remove the connectors on the ECU for the coil drivers. They should ohm out. If they don't. The wire is bad somewhere.. If they test good. The ECU has to be replaced or repaired. If you replace it. You will need the new one programmed to the VIN, Mileage and the keys... And what cause the issue. Is the harness passes under the intake. Then it gets hot and brittle..As that harness feeds the injectors and the coil pack...A new harness is $350.00 or you can build your own..Using new automotive wiring. A box of new pin outs. reuse the old connector housings..As they can be dissembled and reused..That includes the injectors connectors as well. They can be reused.

Agreed. I found a blown transistor in the ECU and replaced it. Easy fix and about $5.00

I did quite a bit of work also on my way to solving this problem. On these dodges pretty much look for a problem in the wiring with anything that you have a problem with. The wire connectors and wires in general are just crap

If your vehicle is still having trouble with the same code, the shorted wires may have blew out a transistor on the control board. It did on mine and replaced just the transistor for about 10 bucks.

I tried finding that myself and it's nearly impossible. Find a junkyard or a scrapped Jeep Chrysler with the V6 and steal that connector. Everything I found was wrong as far as part numbers. Actually on mine I think I got rid of the connector and found solderless connectors just to connect the pins directly

Annoying that i have one here that has spark and new plugs i just did that now and used a spark tester and it looked great it is on cylinder 6 btw. 4 is also a missing a bit too not as bad as 6 tho from my scanner the injector ks is indeed working there too so theres that im a bit perplexed the engine sounds fine cranking it to me does sound smooth

Sorry for the delay, yt doesn't notify me of comments. I don't remember what all I did, it's been a few years and my memory sucks. What ultimately solved the problems with my van was I had to replace a blown transistor on the ecm. About a 5 dollar part, 30 minutes total and it ran perfectly.

I have a 2004 And the same code p2308 Van Misfireing bad. Replaced the spark plugs, wires, coil pack ,and the coil pack connector. That didn't fix it. So I saw your video and thought I had it figured out, however My 2004 only has one connector in the spot you found your problem with only 3 wires none of which match wires to my coil pack? Any ideas??

I actually need to go back and watch this video again cuz I don't remember at what point I stopped working on the van. What ended up fixing my van for good was I found that a small transistor burned out on the ECM. It was a tiny little sucker but I desoldered it and soldered a new one on and then everything was perfect after that.

If you notice your wires are a little bit messed up fix them and if that does not correct the problem you most likely have a blown transistor inside your computer. If you know how to solder it's about a $5 fix

Pull the ECM out and remove the cover. Look in for small transistors. You will probably find one that is bubbled or burned out. If you find that it's a relatively easy fix and if you don't know how to solder surface mount pieces, you can probably take it to a local computer store and they can solder a new one on. I had difficulty finding the transistor but I might have one or two extras left over from when I had to do the repair on my caravan

And it probably has a weird silicone stuff on top of the control board. You might have to gently peel that stuff away to access the burn transistors then refill the hole with RTV silicone once the repair is complete
