Cockpit Casual - Sitting, Waiting, Golfing
On Episode 2 of Cockpit Casual, Steve and Ava deliver a Boeing 737 Freighter from Kelowna Canada to Belo Horizonte Brazil. Once in Brazil, it would take few days for the airplane to clear customs, so they headed to the only golf course in the region to pay a couple rounds and wandered through the city to enjoy the Brazilian cuisine.
The original, self-produced, documentary series follows Steve Giordano, a ferry pilot, delivering airliners all over the world. Each trip is a new adventure both inside and outside of the cockpit. The entirely self-produced videos are filmed using camera mounts and remote controls and both GoPro and DJI Pocket camera systems on live operations. Steve Giordano completes all of the production and editing using Premiere Pro, and the soundtrack features original jazz from Steve Giordano Sr. and his archive of recordings over the last 50 years as a professional musician.
This episode features Steve Giordano and Aaron Van Arsdale, AKA "AVA" (Twitter: @AVAGolfs)

Being a fan of melody, jazz in general and this music specifically seems to be just a string of notes. While without a doubt showing great skill it is just background noise to me. It is better than what passes for music on pop radio today with few exceptions. To each his own I guess.
After retiring from the military, I reskilled myself into aviation. I retired from aviation after working 25 years. I sure miss it. I love your videos. It reminds me of all of my travels as a contractor. Keep them coming.

Outstanding. Fun times.

Another great episode. Thanks Steve
Cassava… the appeal is in eating it fried and salted, it’s very similar to French fries. Unfortunately, the waiter probably misunderstood what you wanted because they served it cooked, which no one ever eats here in Brazil. Make sure you try it fried some day!!
Awesome! Thank you
Can’t wait!
Freaking awesome episode again Steve 👍👍👍

Awesome man! I guess I'll be a ferry pilot too
Cool video Steve, I particularly enjoyed the technical stop in Guyana and their reactions. Had a similar experience arriving at the GA airport in Guyana (OGL) in a TBM at night. We flew it from Houston to Ft Lauderdale, Dominican Republic and Trinidad on our way to Guyana. Venezuelan ATC kept querying us if we were a single or twin aircraft. We're busy trying to shed ice and just didn't catch on until we landed and were greeted by everyone and their mother, fire, police, ground handlers, onlookers, etc. Turns out single engine IFR at night is not allowed in Guyana. Had no idea! So their reaction to two happy guys wearing shorts and flipflops was priceless. Fortunately the well paid handler came through and we were able to spend the night in a hotel instead of jail. :=) International travel is the best!
Love what you guys do in every aspect & those Jazz Tunes are epic, Safe Ferries, Lads. Matt, MCY/YBSU 🇦🇺

Guys, the absolute best advice I can give you install Google suite on your phone and download every language into Google Translate. Or every language you might need when you plan your flight - it is an lifesaver when you travel not to a non-english speaking country... but when you go to a country that doesn't use latin alphabet. Good luck and please, more content. :)
Great video! Keep it up!

Great stuff again, Steve! "On the clock" (getting paid to play golf, google translate says 😉) Belo H is a really cool city, been there a couple of times. Cassava by itself, just boiled or roasted, it's just bland! Needs something with it. It actually goes great in stew or even curry. Best way I've eaten it was in a Jerked chicken stew! Awesome! By itself though.... meh!
Ava > sure hope you aren't 1 of those Perfectionist golfers who view their swing as needing improvement > absolutely beautiful flow there. Steve > ever see Charles Barkley swing a club? > Your swing isn't quite that bad 😜 Disclosure > I'm no golfer so pls take comments w/a grain. Seriously.... fantastic content...really enjoy the Ferry focus👍

@@CockpitCasual How many type ratings do your pilots hold? Are they trained on multiple variants or do you have different pilots for different types?

@@CockpitCasual This looks like a line of work I might be interested in when I get my commercial. I just recently was invited to fly with an instructor who was ferrying a T210 1400 miles and worked it in as my IFR X-C flight. Cool to see some places I wouldn't otherwise have seen.

We all have ATP/ATPL with at least 15k-20K hours on Jets, 10-20 years each of airline experience, and most of us have at least 7-8 PIC type ratings (10 each for Bob/Steve - Ava has 6). The dress code is casual, but the job is very challenging! That said, once you get some types and some time - if you’re up for adventure, don’t mind being off the grid for weeks at a time, and have a knack for problem solving on the fly - give us a call 🤙🏼

@@CockpitCasual Do you renew all of your 10 type ratings every year or do you revalidate it if / when needed?
Another great episode. I find it interesting that you carry all the aircraft records(24 years and 80 totes)of its existence to the new owner(10 boxes alone when it was with Aegean as SX-BGN). Learning more and more about this "thing of yours" every day.
Nouvo Lima was a great gold mine in the 1900 to 1950 period, and the great golf course and club was due to the expat British management who knew how to live!

Very interesting! Way up there in altitude too. The golf balls really flew far!
At 26:30 that's "mandioca" (I guess it's manioc in English?). It's the cooked root of a certain plant. I have had it often, but never seen what the actual plant looks like. It's an acquired taste for sure, and it helps if you put some salt on it LOL. Thanks for sharing this awesome content! Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.
Man I’d love to do this! How does one go about finding work like this. The regional pilot grind gets old…
Love the soundtrack, flying lifestyle and variety of jets routes flown. That’s something I would love to do at this stage of my life even if this means a huge pay-cut. Are u guys looking by any chance? COM, Multi, instruments but no jet time.
You should try the golf course between the runways at VTBD.
