emmy, i recently inherited my gradmothers old cookbooks and found many recipes i think youd like! one really interesting one is called "sad cake" and the recipe is: 2 cups bisquick 1 lb box light brown sugar 4 eggs 1/2 cup cooking oil 1 cup chopped pecans 1 cup angel flake coconut combined and baked at 350 for 30-40 minutes. yes.... it says a whole pound of brown sugar. i do not know why it is called a sad cake nor have i tried the recipe, but feel free to give it a go! its supposed to be a very fudgy cake. the recipe is quite vague theres also this one... simply called "baked bananas" nutmeg to taste cinnamon to taste oleo small box strawberry jello 6 bananas (not ripe, still greenish) split each banana in half lengthwise, then split in half again. layer in a buttered dish side by side. sprinkle generously with strawberry jello. sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg and dot with oleo. Bake in 400 degree oven uncovered for about an hour or until glazed. i have many other recipes i can share too, just let me know :) I even have a cookbook dedicated to honey, called the vermont beekeepers cookbook.

We used to have this at potlucks all the time. The trick is to not over mix the cream cheese into the jello. You only slightly mix the two , and then the cream cheese will settle just above the nuts and the jello will have more of a transparency to it and settle at the top of the mold.

Put the Jello down, Emmy! Secret word? Emmy, I have extreme juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and a degenerative spine disease and have been in true agony this year. Because there isn’t help medically (unless I want to become an addict, no thank you), the only thing I can do is find joy and peace where I can. You have been that for me for a long time and there aren’t words for how grateful I am to you! Your calm voice, positivity and sense of humor are contagious and the greatest weapons against anything threatening to swallow me up. Sorry for the long message, I just had to let you know after all these years ☺️. Love and hugs to you and your lovely family 😘💨

Super simple recipe, but one I've actually had before. Lime jello salad. My grandma makes it every time we visit for dinner. 1 cup shredded cabbage, 1/2 cup julienne carrots, 1 package lime jello. Semi-set the jello before mixing the veg in, then let it fully set. I like to eat it plain, but my grandpa liked his with ranch dressing

This reminds me of those of old infomercials with that Cathy Mitchell lady who'd put pepsi/ coke (or ramen) to pretty much everything. You can tell the homemaker women of the early 20th century were bored as hell staying at home all day so they decided to experiments with food.

  • @shanana50

The vast majority of these recipes did not come from bored Housewives experimentation but from prepackaged food companies trying to Market their products to women newly liberated by modern appliances. If you look, most of the recipes come out of brand sponsored cookbooks. Humans have always been susceptible to marketing

My grandma then would then make the rest of the jello and pour it in on top of the other layer after it had set. This gave it the 3 defined layers. Also, she always hand stirred the cream cheese and didn't use a mixer so maybe you over mixed it. She would use cherry jello with the cola, lemon lime with sprite, and orange soda with orange jello. I saw this concoction at pretty much every family dinner, family reunion, wedding, or funeral.
