@Lee 80s my school was great some of my best years got scholarship in tracks had great friends I still am good friends with to this day 6 of us now down to 4 for but 37 year friendships and the track awards and events we accomplished can never be duplicated in life just amazing times all around I graduated with 700 kids too we had the 5-6 biggest school in new jersey and that's was in 2000 20 years ago cna only imagine how many are there now they had to build another school lol

It was perfect actually. I hear people who get their life saved by someone when they’re a child hold great respect for them no matter how they turned out. Daniel saved her life, and all these years later that moment comes back to save something he build over the years with his family(wife and mr miyagi) I think this scene hit me the hardest.

When the guard talks to Johnny in the jail, he referred to him as “Applebee’s guy” this is a call back to S1E1 when Sid told Johnny “I thought that incident at Applebee’s would have taught you to keep your hands to yourself”

I agree. I am more of a Johnny fan but it was good to see Daniel in a setting where he wasn't coming across as more of an antagonist to Johnny. In many ways, the Okinawa storyline was a subtle shift of Daniel's return to more of a protagonist role. Okinawa Daniel felt more like "OG Daniel". This series may have the mood and style of a cheesy 80s flick but it is so carefully crafted.

The writers and producers respect the source material, hence why the Cobra Kai series has been consistently good. This is how you leverage old franchises into media gold.

I feel like in Episode 2 when Daniel says "Johnny, come on. That's too much!" it's referencing the first film when the Cobras were beating up Daniel outside his apartment and Bobby tries to stop Johnny by saying "Johnny, he's had enough!"

Another reference: When Chozen asks Daniel if he knows the origin of the Miyagi-Do Karate style and Daniel tells him how Mr.Miyagi told him the story of his ancestor who was a fisherman that drifted to the coast of China and learned there martial arts, bringing it back when he returned to Okinawa, that is based of the origin of the real-life Okinawan Gōjū ryū Karate style, by Chōjun Miyagi.(the Sensei who's picture we see in the movies & show) He had studied under a Sensei named Higashionna Kanryō, who lived in China for many years & was trained in chinese Krane style Kung Fu, before returning to Okinawa. That's why the Krane-technique is featured in Okinawan Karate. Also, the pressure point technique, that Chozen teaches Daniel, is inspired by an ancient technique that exploits the sensitive points of the human nervous system,in order to inflict massive pain to the opponent. It doesn't make you paralysed though in real-life, like they showed it, but it's extremely painful when you get hit at the right ''pressure point''.Acupuncture is based on the same principle basically. The whole thing is very impractical though, because you have to hit the precise pressure point, which is pretty much impossible during a real fight when your opponent is moving around.

In the original Karate Kid movies the All Valley Tournament took place right before christmas but it appears that the tournament in season 1 and now the upcoming season 4 it would be taking place around April or May right before the school year ends. Because in season 2 the series takes up right after the tournament when they're on summer vacation.

When Johnny took down Robbie in the end fight, he deflected him into an object similar to how Miyagi defeated Mike Barnes in the Karate Kid 3 dojo fight.

Trashing the wheelchair could be a reference when Daniel trashed his bike that later Mr. Miyagi repaired. (Those wheelchairs are expensive though, someone else could have used them after Miguel...)

Yes, being that Ali did finally make an appearance on the show, I am surprised that they didn't go with that scenario, along with Ali being Tory's Mom. Maybe that one worked out for the best. Tory likely has more of a connection with Terry Silver if anyone.

@@RayRay-zt7bj the idea that Ali was Tory's mom never made any sense. & her being the surgeon brought in to operate on Miguel would have brought her into the season earlier than she was needed. Her appearance in the last 2 episodes was perfect. He character was there specifically to finally end the feud between Daniel and Johnny, right when they needed to. & I did think Tory might be Terry Silver's granddaughter, but that was clearly debunked in this season since she really is broke and Kreese had no prior connection to her (if she was related to Silver he'd also know her).

All season 3 was ESPETACULAR. The scene with the girl of the typhoon was simple but extremely AWSOME!!!! The fact that they bring the original actress, which is an adult now was amazing. Never saw something like this in a movie.

7:01 Yep, same with the "I know" coming from Daniel before the fight to the death with Chosen. I flinched when I heard that in the flashback, pulled out my original copy of KK2 to confirm. Yep, that was new footage. I have now added a new line to my Karate Kid canon 🤩

I don’t know if it was on purpose, but when the Cobra Kai kids break into the zoo to steal a cobra, they stop on the stairs heading to the reptile exhibit and there is a big poster behind the shot of Hawk that says “Birds Of Prey”. It was so noticeable, I expected to hear the screech of a hawk play, like they usually play for Hawk.

You missed the reference to KK1 when Samantha LaRusso, after getting multiple Saturday detentions, punches a locker and screams "This school sucks!" Daniel yells the same thing in KK1 after being kicked out of soccer practice by the coach for fighting even though it was Cobra Kai member Bobby who started it by purposely tripping him

Just remember what we’re going through at this time. Something called COVID. Season 3 was heavily delayed. Season 4 is heavily delayed too. If we weren’t going though what we are going though then we would be in season 5 by now. The kids did age a lot for the story to continue a few months later.

Mr. Miyagi and Kreese have similar back stories: they were both in the war when they've lost their loved ones at home. One of recovery techniques Johnny wanted to use to help Miguel walk again was acupuncture, while Chozen introduces Daniel to a new technique based on pressure points (acupuncture) that disables the opponent from walking/fighting. Johnny did attempt to use Tony Robbins' "motivational speech" techniques, every time. Hypnosis as a technique on his list - snake charmers use hypnosis on cobras. One of Johnny's photos has "William Zabka" written on top, obviously left on purpose. Johnny's all-caps message to Ali contains many pop culture references, and he's annoyed by the movies where losers end up with a hot girl - similar to what happened to Demetri & Yas in this season :)

Not sure if this is one: fund raising car wash - was this a call back to SNL skit?

I love the fact that all the flash backs show that Miagi was right, even Kreese wasn't a bad student, he just had a bad teacher. Maybe even Kreese will have a turn by the end of season 4.

So many great references and Easter eggs. That's what makes this series so good. For me Season 3 is the best season so far. I can't wait for Season 4! Miyagi Fang Karate does have a ring to it!!

This is the best season ever. The ultimate fan service. I love how they tied in beautifully the chapter on Okinawa especially his meet-up with Kumiko, Chozen, and Yuna. And the second-best part is the episode with Ali.

They gave Daniel a legit reason for being in Tokyo and then while he was there he took a side trip to Okinawa. They easily could've done some contrived thing about him taking off half around the world to find himself.

@@joemckim1183 agreed. I was so glad that he didn’t decide to go to Okinawa (from Encino) for soul-searching; rather, he was already in Tokyo for business, making it easier to take a side trip to Okinawa.

@@mobycat33 Yes, and it was a 'real' reason to go to Japan instead of some 'self-discovery' excuse (which I thought it would be the reason to go back there), good job there.

"don't skimp on that sauce" - head chef on Ep. 10, reference to KK1, when Daniel got all that sauce on his shirt

I am fairly sure the way Ali turns around and does that "hair shake" before she walks away outside the Country Club, was in the original movie.

When Chozen, after leading Daniel on with a facade of stoicness, finally breaks after besting Daniel in the spar, honking Daniel's nose tit-for-tat, and does the same cackling laugh he did in KK2 after humiliating Daniel.

Not sure if anyone mentioned yet that Ralph's real life son is sitting behind Zabka during the All-Valley Trial. Also, anyone else have a thought on why the high school went from green and grey as school colors in 84 to now being blue and orange?

@@NJN23 I know I thought they meant Kreese's school in 1965. Schools at times have changed their mascots and perhaps colors slightly. For example a lesser used color may be stressed more on some uniforms. My high school was red and blue and have emphasized one color over the other over the years. Also, my junior high school which was part of a K -8. used to be the Red Devils in the 60s and 70s until they changed in the 80s to the Warriors and kept the red and white colors

to be fair, while it is a nice "dream" of "old town/village never changing with the times and being perfectly fine" that kind of thing usually ends badly, towns become desolate very easily, and as someone who lives in an old, dying town, i can yell ya, once it starts dieing, you start wishing you had all those offers for factory work and a big mall to get the ball rolling again, mr. sato really did save tomi village in my opinion

Totally. It's horrible watching towns and villages slowly die. I appreciate and respect the showrunners for putting dialogue in there to show that the locals thought Sato had done the right thing.

@@estarriol7 yeah cuz they could have EASILY painted it as a tragedy, or they could have done worse and shown this old timey peaceful sackrin sweet village that would completely miss represent living in a small town or some such

A big Easter egg that most people probably don’t catch is a little shrine that was in Chozen’s dojo near the framed photos is a big plot point from The Karate Kid cartoon series. (The fact that the writers used THAT....yet are still unaware that Bobby was the runner-up instead of Tommy the year before Daniel competed in the tournament is pretty astounding. They know their stuff, but they have missed some good trivia.)

@@captassassin5680 it was interesting how they at first during the season showed Tory's more human side with having to take care of her kid brother and her sick mom, then they basically had her take bitch to a while new level where Sam was concerned. The writing was very good and I thought Peyton did an awesome job in her portrayal of Tory buying into Kreese's BS more and more as her hate for Sam grew.

An enraged Sam screams “This school sucks!” outside the principal’s office with the exact inflection that Daniel did when he got thrown out of soccer tryouts......

I think after the Seinfeld reference, Daniel refers to Friends as well. The two most classic 90sTV sitcoms😂

Johnny and Miguel throwing away the crutches and wheelchair is a reference to when Daniel threw away his bike.

The creators of CK have to be reconized for their efforts. I have been watching since back in th YT red days and they keep impressing me with each season. This should be the template for pop culture revivals etc. They manage to respect the originals whilst diving deeper into the OG characters all the while keeping things contemporary etc. Great video BTW. i'll say, i thought the season was gonna peter off at the end their, then the cobra kai attack the larusso home, and then johnny and daniel team up to deal with kreese, and the trip back to tomi village was very nice, and i enjoyed seeing kreeses backstory so all in all, i really liked it

Another Easter Egg: Samantha LaRusso earns more Saturday detentions when she mouths off to Counselor Blatts.... much like Johnny Bender from "The Breakfast Club" when he was insulting Mr. Vernon.

One of my favorite random references in the entire series, and it really seems like most people missed it. Only for the diehard KK fans I guess :) The reaction from Hawk and the others makes it even better because it's what every fan was thinking during the original

OK it's been almost a week. Are we SERIOUSLY not gonna talk about how Tommy's most famous line which gave him 80's cult status was "Get him a body bag, yeah!" in KK1 during the tournament, and when he dies in his sleep his character leaves the series in a body bag himself?

Dude awesome vid! I really liked Season 3 as it was. Knowing these references make me want to see it again. I had a few that i recognized but not THAT many. That was a fun watch.

Sam says "This school sucks!" when she is given detention after the soccer game. Daniel says "This school sucks!" when he gets kicked off the soccer team tryouts in Karate Kid 1.

Perhaps it was the same character, but not either of the original actors from what others have already posted. The movie was filmed in Hawaii. The episode in Okinawa. Doubtful Netflix is gonna flip the bill to fly either and put them up in a hotel. Tomita, Okumoto and Toguchi yes. They're parts were more important.

If you are an Elisabeth Shue fan you'll notice the scene when her mom gets home, Ali is on the sofa like she was in one of final scenes from "Adventures in Babysitting". Plus, when she is saying goodbye to Johnny, she mentions the past, the future and the time machine. That's from Back to the Future. ❤

I remember trying to watch CobraKai on KZread but it didn’t get enough advertising and I was not a KZread follower at the time so I only watched a few mins of the first episode and that’s was it. Besides I couldn’t stream to my tv at the time either so it was from my smart phone and that wasn’t fun. I’m so glad it finally went to Netflix. 🥰

Luz, what a lot of people didn't and still don't know is that for a long time, ever since modern flat-screen TVs came out, they had HDMI cables which allow you to use a TV as a computer monitor. I always tried to get my older brother to hook his PC or Laptop up to his TV to watch shows but he was stubborn and didn't do it. I didn't get my first flat-screen TV until 2014 but I already knew of a relative who showed me how easy it is to hook up the TV to a PC from several years before that.
