COBIA From The KAYAK! (Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel Kayak Fishing)
Disclaimer: I don't recommend trying this. It can be done if you time the tide change correctly and have calm winds, but even then it is a serious workout. Don't attempt this if you aren't in good shape or don't have faith in your equipment.
I've always thought about trying the CBBT in a kayak and finally pulled the trigger and went for it. I wasn't super interested in strictly targeting the sheepshead that most fish for in the summer there. I love catching them, but I have places that require a lot less effort to target them, and the CBBT has other species that you don't typically have the opportunity to catch from a kayak. Nice weather, good fishing, and a good variety!

Dude, that was a beautiful day of fishing from the North end of the bridge. You gave me lots of good ideas.
My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. kzread.infoUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

Not really a beginner kayak but I do agree on it being a good investment. Hands down the best fishing platform at the kayak level
Wow what a day for you. Great fishing
that looks like an absolute blast!!

Very true we always keep new things no matter what it says and try and most of time it’s good 👍 nice video
hey just wanted to say your a great fisherman and have some great gear keep up the good work 👍
I think it’s so cool how curious those fish are
Now THAT is some great fishing. I am in the mood for saltwater now for sure

Definitely challenging! In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have attempted that without a backup drive system or trolling motor with me. But in the worst case scenario, I just would have been embarrassed and had to get someone to tow me back in, that's why we picked a pretty day!

That's cool, what time of year and where do you launch from? I've kayak fished at multi peaks many time, caught sheep's there in the fall, but that's too far run to the bridge.
I'm guessing you never ate an oyster toad fish. Delicious fish.
Is this late August? Think I saw you out there!
One thing I noticed when fishing that current is to let the line out in 10’ increments. If you try to do it all at once it will sweep out. A little bit at a time and on the eddy side and you can get 3/4 oz down there. With too heavy of weight I’m not sure how well you could feel the bite. But I’m no expert

And, with that current, fish on stringers is a pain
As a teenager we lived on the northern terminus of the bay Bridge. Was an old radar site and now is a bird refuge?

Nice video, question I moved to VA from Florida over 3 years ago and haven’t attempted to fish since moving here. Since watching your video I’m going to take some days off and make the two hour drive from Woodbridge and try my luck there, would like to know what you use to catch cobias?

Cobias are pretty easy, hardest part is getting around one. My best recommendation would be to fish from Buckroe Pier if you are boatless. Easier to get one there than kayak.
Where do you launch at?
How long does it take you to kayak to the bring? And where did you launch from? Love fishing the chesapeake and would be interested in trying a kayak fishing trip!

The current was ripping so hard at that point that I could barely do anything besides pedal, but I agree I was bummed when editing that there wasn't a good view of that fish, it was a little over 20" long

Awsome vid. I'll be traveling down there from MA. What lbs line u recommend overall?

Be careful if you go. You can get in trouble in a hurry out there, what we did was only possible because of a weather window combined with the tide change lining up at the right time of day. I had 30lb braid on the spinning rod I targeted the sheepshead with.

@@nolanminor6761 when we would come down for the Cobia in the first week of July every year, we always stayed for a week in Cape Charles bcuz many times we’d only get 3 days of fishing bcuz of the conditions. We would take our 35’ Maycraft and ride down from the Eastern Shore of Maryland part of Chesapeake Bay.

We put in at Fisherman's Island. Most people fish the other side of the bridge which is what I would recommend. Pretty dangerous to do what we did IMO, we had the perfect conditions for it and even that was challenging.
Sheepshead are the best fried fish on earth.
Have you had any issues with your Hobie 360 Drive?
@nolanminor6761

I snapped the belt when I first got the kayak (used). Replaced the belt, and have had no issues since. I had my drive serviced between tournament seasons and carry a spare during competition. (I know the spare isn't a realistic option for most)

Don’t feel he littered, or did so intentionally. If he didn’t care, wouldn’t have crushed the air out the bottle, twist the cap air-tight; to mitigate any chance wind or whatever displacement into the water. I hate people trashing our resources, don’t think this was one of those cases. IMO

Have gotten lots of comments about this. There's a place between my seat and the side of the kayak where I stuff my trash, its pretty much muscle memory so it looks fast like I'm pitching it in the water. Pay attention in any of my videos and you'll see trash in that location
