COBIA Fishing In The Chesapeake Bay

Chesapeake Bay cobia fishing, sight fishing for very finicky mid summer cobias on the bay. Spawning fish coupled with hazy conditions from the fires in Canada has made for an extremely challenging cobia bite for us. We connected on a few though!

Caught my first Cobia in about that exact spot! It was 1980, and I was 12, fishing with Dad on his 24CC. Thanks for digging up some great memories!

Find somewhere to buy live American Eels. That is our live bait of choice along the Florida panhandle when we sight fish during the spring, also live blue crabs are great. The eels are cobia candy though, out perform fish baits and jigs any day of the week.

Next time I'll wait till the end of the video to comment..hahaha . I can offer some tips and tricks to make it easier dealing with eels in the boat. Tight lines and screaming drags.

Cobia are pretty low on my list for table fare. Good texture, but they definitely have an aftertaste to them. I'd eat amberjack before cobia. Think they just have the reputation for tasting good because they are an elusive fish.

"Way south", near the CBBT. I don't think it's the best spot but we pretty consistently see fish in that region. I'm sure there is plenty of fishy water we drive right by but I don't know enough to branch out much. Sight fishing eats up the hours quickly, before you know it it's 1:00!
