    I can’t find this answer anywhere. Maybe I’m have some luck here, but we already have existing Wi-Fi here at home but I wanted to get my own Wi-Fi router in my room. Is there a way to get a coax cable upstairs without interrupting the existing Wi-Fi router and coax cable?

    New subscriber, Thanks for taking the time to do this video it answered several questions I had, but I have one more. I live in a 100 year old house that has coax cable all over the place, I would like to get rid of some of the ones in the basement because they are in the way (they have open ends). I only use a cable to the router on second floor, would it be safe to cut those cables? Is there an easy way to test the cables to see if they have a load?... could be using the wrong term.. to see if they are the cable that my signal is on?

    I have a white coax cable in my room but a black cable that plugs from that, into my router/modem (not this kind of tech savvy). Also if that’s not the problem, the coax in my living room works but the one in my room doesn’t. What could be causing that?

    It sounds like the other end is not hooked up to your cable company. Check the small panel outside of your house that says catv and look to see if all the coax cables are connected.

    Doesn’t listen to this guy , if your cable is physically broken then it no longer transferring the RF properly, you have noise, signal loss. Get a new cable or just call your internet provider. The broken cable is definitely causing your speed loss.

  • @cableapostle

    @cableapostle

    Martin is right. Your cable modem bonds up to 24 downstream frequencies (channels) to get the speeds out of your DOCSIS 3.0 modem. Broken cables will cause signal to noise issues and ingress. You have any of those problems you will experience network issues and that includes slower internet speeds.

    Coax cable will usually poses no harm to you at all. There really shouldn't be any more than 4 millivolts coming out of each ends of your wall plate outlet. Coaxial deals with frequencies that is a little as 5 MHz up to 2000 MHz depending on the system. Any power on a HFC system (cable network) that is above 12dbmv is too much power. That's really a fraction on 1 volt! So, no. There is no fire hazard or shock hazard (unless you have a backfeed, bad ground to an equipment or power inserters) at all.
