Was going 191mph and probably could have hit 200 but wanted to keep it safe. Think I’ll scratch a hole to my brain to figure the logic on that one. Edit: I’m well aware of the mechanical ramifications of additional MPH at those speeds. Consider though that 9mph more on public roads at about 3X the speed limit you’ve abandoned safety. And no argument of driver skill, countermeasures, car’s ability, etc... is a legitimate excuse. I’m not condemning the herculean feat they accomplished, just found that comment perplexing.

Actually, at that high of a speed, even a small increase carries much stress put on the car along. Aerodynamic effects and stresses on moving parts especially tyres, don't increase linearly with speed, but rather exponentially. A tyre that is stable at 190mph for long periods of time, might just shatter into a million pieces or overheat and lose traction after a couple of miles doing 210. There is a logic in that.

that's awesome and cool to see someone else take the same route as me. I broke the bike record, same exact spots, except went dog beach to jax beach to get more night driving with the FLIR. i think i logged 2408.1 miles, more gas stops i'm guessing. great work guys!!

I left Everett Washington about 20 minutes north of Seattle at about 10pm on a Friday 8am Monday I was in Carrollton GA. We were driving a 91 Ford ranger with a 4cyl towing a Suzuki Samurai on a Uhaul tow dolly. We only had a CB to listen to the truckers to find the speed traps

I’d be curious what the potential perfect time is. Like if a major brand like Bugatti or Ferrari got the roads shut down for a few hours and just booked it through in the fastest car they have.

  • @mcearl8073

Assuming everything is shut down and they could go flat out and only need to slow for fuel stops changing roads I’d imagine it’s significantly less time. I wonder though how quick a Bugatti or something would go through fuel driving at 200mph, it would likely be harder to fit a large fuel cell in them but if they could afford to have everything shut down they could easily arrange fuel put stops right on the highway which would keep the weight down anyway. They could also probably do it mostly all in the daylight which would help. I’d have to imagine they could do it in 14 hours but that’s just a guess

Try this...Paramus NJ to Burbank CA. I worked all day in NJ and left Paramus at 4 PM on Friday and yes, I-80 had usual traffic. I made it to Burbank at 11 am on Monday. Total miles with my busy day in NJ was over 2,900 miles. I usually ran about 4 mph above the speed limit but not over 70 mph as my rig is governed at that limit. It was consistent driving and no messing around smelling the Rose's. I have a 2019 Peterbilt with a pre 2000 refurbished Detroit Series 60. I should get a shirt for that! I've also done the southern run from Miami beach convention center to Los Angeles Convention center. Left Miami around 12:30 PM on a friday and arrived LA at 2:30 am on Monday. I'll take two shirts, please.

18 years ago I was reading Brock Yates' CANNONBALL while bottle feeding my new son Jackson. I came to a part about Gil Nickel of Far Niente Winery and his position. I had just sold Gil a Bentley Continental T and was looking for another car for him at the time. So I called his cell phone (he'd never brought this up to me in our conversations before!). He answered in a whisper and said "I'm in a meeting Jeff, can I call later?" And I said "no rush, I'm just reading CANNONBALL now...you need to fill me in!" He said "hang on" excused himself from the meeting and opened with "we would have won if ....!" great memory / great guy.
