I am a proud DAS user. Like all of the other legitimate users, I only use it in the way it's intended - waiting the same amount of time as everyone else, just in a different location. For those of you who don't know, Disney has a very detailed log of how each guest issued DAS uses it at their parks. So each time I register for DAS, Disney World can see that i am a guest that does not abuse the system. I totally agree that Disney needs to try to eliminate the DAS scammers, but arguing that the ONLY people who are mad about these new changes are people who "scam the system", is flat out incorrect, as plenty of legitimate disabled people will not qualify anymore according to Disney's new verbage on their website. If Disney truly wanted to get rid of scammers, they would use a system similar to Universal, that allows you to provide medical documentation, rather than just using the honor system.

I've got a spinal CSF leak. The symptoms strongly mimic POTS. I can tell you that neither are a joke. While neither condition is life threatening on their own, going down like a wet paper bag certainly could be. The idea that POTS would not be covered is (no pun) mind blowing.

This video speaks to my questions. How do they chose which disabilities to give “free genie plus” to? The real problem in my opinion is that almost everyone can legitimately claim a disability now a days. Everyone has anxiety, has physical medical conditions, diabetes, autism, ptsd. I reviewed life insurance applications for 10 years and everyone has something…. If everyone qualities for DAS, the regular line will become the fast lane. I’m curious if anyone has an idea of how to handle this?

Disney has no obligation to give 'free genie plus' to anyone with any condition. Disney has every right to reasonably request proof of condition for any special service. Its not discriminatory at all, its regulatory which anyone with a genuine need would genuinely appreciate.

As a former cast member i can tell you (sadly) you would be shocked the amount of abuse of these benefits by people who do not need them. This makes it difficult for Disney to honor the folks who do. Trust me, Disney takes its care of special needs guests very, very seriously. I was a street performer and we were trained extensively on treating every guest with sensitivity. There is nothing cavalier about these decisions. Especially at Disneyland-the abuse is obscene. There are even websites "helping" to scam the system.

My daughter appears to not "look" like she has any issues. I hated cast members looking at us like we were not telling the truth about her issue. She has photodermatitis. She breaks out in hives if we are out in the sun too long. We apply sunscreen every 3 hours to keep her covered and luckily in NC that works. We went down to Florida in 2016 with her and the sunscreen alone was not enough. She broke out in hives so we made her use a hoodie. We went in early April. So it is not too hot nor too cold.We thought....should have been fine. So in 2017 we found out about the DAS and we thought great....this is helpful to us. We only used it on rides were the "shade" in que is pointless. Things like 7 dwarves, slinky dog and any long wait in the sun basically. We would still try to go early morning, later in the afternoon but the return time using DAS was a blessing. She only had minor issues with the sun on that 3rd trip and we were thankful. Now her issue is not on the DAS so that is a complete bummer. Still unsure about what this means for her but probably means she can not ride anything with outdoor lines or things where the lines are past the shade they provide. I am hoping something can be modified for her to enjoy those rides but if not....she just will have to not enjoy them. We can not do anything about it. Point is....try not to say "they didnt have any issues" because you never know what they deal with.

As someone who severely suffers with two separate congenital neuromuscular issues, I, too am disheartened but am waiting for updates. Unfortunately, Disney should have had that info also ready to announce at same time instead of making so many feel now unwelcome. We all know the system is abused by selfish lowlifes and agree changes are needed, but they had to know this would appear negatively, so why not wait until you had answers for all types of disabilities? I wouldn't want to be the innocent cast member forced to tell someone they are not really sick or disabled.

Would you be ok if part of the new process Disney were to ask for proof of disability or paperwork showing you definitely have a disability that specifically affects your ability to wait in line ? Yes, I would not have a problem because I have years of medical proof. If someone is legit, they will have proof, you wouldn't need to give every personal detail but would still have it to provide. I know people who got a pass for nothing but being lazy, not a thing wrong, it infuriated me when I found out she did it. I want to stop that. I know Disney isn't leaving other disabilities out, just that they should have made the announcement more clear, I have heard and listened to a lot to keep up, but still may questions, I know I will find it all out. I currently don't reservations booked, surgeries in my future, so I have time to find out, and can always call when I get that point. Agreed. Unfortunately there’s always the useless entitled people that make everything harder for people who do legitimately need accommodations and those wanting to help. So yes, something had to give. I’m sure the new system will in time work just fine, and I totally understand that outsourcing managing the program allows them to potentially utilize expertise (medical/accessibility/etc) from a third party that may not exist in house as well as utilize an existing system that might be more efficient and less expensive than them managing the system in house. But why they aren’t outsourcing all disabilities and why they made the whole thing confusing and incredibly opaque is beyond me. Only outsourcing some disabilities would seem to defeat any gains from a third party’s expertise and efficiency, and anyone with any sense would have waited until they had clear guidelines for “everyone else” and made a streamlined comprehensive announcement. Further evidence that Disney PR needs a swift kick.

Most attractions accommodate scooters and wheelchairs in the cue and the DAS has become heavily abused. People have claimed so many "problems" and that has ruined it for many who may truly need this service. The DAS service was created because prior to that it twenty people would hang onto grandmas scooter to cut in line essentially. DAS is most likely seeing that same type of thing. As an actual permanently Disabled person i have found for years that the Disney corporation has discriminated against disabled people for many years, i live only 11 miles from Disneyland and have been going there since before i remember and after i became disabled and electric wheelchair bound it was more important to my emotional and physical health then ever to have a place to go where it was park like with trees and hope and happiness to provide positivity for my life dealing with several life threatening illnesses, and I go alone with my mother waiting for me outside the gate, its just me in my wheelchair as i only have enough energy to last 3 to 4 hours total, but when Disney started literally "cracking" down on disabled people i no longer felt welcome and it became a place of negativity for me to the point where i went less and less then i stopped altogether and havent gone back in years and now i have nowhere to go and spend my days laying in my bed. Now i have been paying attention to all that has been reported so far and i feel that this is almost a "war" Disney has started against the sick and injured, why, why is that? To say to the public that only people who are Autistic are to be considered "disabled" shows an outright ignorance of even the most rudimentary medicine i can only come to the conclusion that they dont want someone making a noisy "fuss" in a long line that might annoy other people in line. But now i am hearing horror stories how Disney is sometimes not even allowing Autistic people to be helped out so that they dont have to be in long lines what is that all about? There are hundreds of "hidden" illnesses that make people with them have a very hard time dealing with day to day life. I could go on for hours about people being told to "well wear diapers then" or "practice being immobile in a long line at home first so you can get used to it" etc etc but i dont need to clearly Disney Corp is blatantly Discriminating against the Disabled for their profit and feel they are too "big" for any one to do anything about it, I call on everyone who is negatively affected by all this to find out all the things they can do to put a stop to this contact local, state and federal offices that protect the ones who can protect themselves not so I or others like me can go and spend a lot of money at this corporations venues I dont want to go anywhere near these places anymore but to stop this sort of inhumane treatment of those who still have a wish or a dream that life can be hopeful no matter how ill you may be.

Not only is that embarrassing, I many times must accompany him so when we are alone we can’t leave someone to save our spot. In addition I use an ECV so I would love for them to explain to me how I am supposed to turn around and get thru the line backwards before I have any issue. The current system works. I can be close to the areas of need for my particular condition. Then go in a shorter line at a designated time and then return to the area of need quickly without incident or lower chance of incident. I have no issue providing documentation but to exclude me or ask me to get in and out of line is not ok! The problem is they do t ask for documentation and people have been abusing the system for years. A simple doctors would fix this.

So what happens during these “frequent leaving the line” situations when the Lightning lanes for DAS pass users + ride time is, oh I don’t know, 25 minutes long? Odd how these urgent situations hit pause when in a Lightning lane and on a ride. Meanwhile, my last trip with my kids we had to leave the regular lines multiple times because, surprise, kids are kids and need to use the restroom. Disney cast members deal with this situation every hour of every day. We were expeditiously able to exit the line and return with no issues. Happened several times on our trip. No big deal. So, there’s your reasonable accommodation. Disney lets you leave the line and return. You just want to go through a faster line and enjoy the park. Don’t we all! I’d love to spend 10 minutes in line and walk around vs. 45 minutes in a queue. But hey, it’s “ableist” to expect someone with IBS to go through the same process anyone with kids do who have to leave the line for restrooms.

@@Rinzler10exactly. The problem is too many people insist their IBS is a disability so they want lightning lane access. Meanwhile, every hour every line for every ride has parents with kids who need to abruptly exit for the very same restroom urgency, and it’s no problem. The problem is too many people want special treatment when alternative accommodations exist. You need to exit for a restroom urgency? Great! Disney is experienced with this. You tell a cast member, they usher you out promptly, and you get to return promptly. Zero issues. Curiously, the IBS crowd can stand in a lightning lane + ride a ride which can take 20-25 minutes. They can stand in those lines no problem. They just don’t want to stand in a 50 minute line because they can grab a free lightning lane pass for that ride, and while they’re waiting, they’re standing in a normal queue at another ride.

Checking that single box doesn't fix all issues where people can't stand in line. I am a 90% disabled Veteran and it's always a battle to convince a cast member I don't have a single limitation and an ECV isn't a solution for me. Being stationary in line for an extended period is a problem regardless if I am sitting or standing. Glad there are folks fighting the good fight but if people didn't abuse the system we wouldn't even be here.

@WDWNT I only did a cursory search but found nothing about theme parks having to give disabled guests a different line experience based on their inability to stand in line. I only found info as it relates to physical access to the rides, which I believe Disney does a pretty good job. The inability to stand in lines is almost always self-diagnosed. I question why someone unable to stand in lines, go somewhere where lines are the major component and then expect that they shouldn't be subject to the lines. Skipping the lines is at the expense of others who then have to stand in line longer. Nobody ends up happy except the line jumper. Disney needs to strike a fair balance, whatever that is

Making the process more difficult seems like it would exclude those people they ostensibly intend to cover.

Finally! Someone else has acknowledged the fact that the abuse of the DAS is a small amount. When they totally overhauled it, it was reported that the abuse was less than 5%. The fact is, it is due to the high demand that they’re struggling. Like you said a lot of people are whining, due to people not understanding the DAS and all the false stories & reports. I still hear people say that disabled people get to the front of the queue. I also heard someone did a vlog and said he gets the pass, then gives it to his kids to go on without him. I hope Disney rethink the changes and find a better solution. Just picking 1 disability & excluding others sounds like discrimination to me. 🤷‍♀️ It will cause problems in the parks and will eventually end in some sort of altercation. Like you said, in the end it won’t help those that it was originally intended for.

@@nickymocknope. DAS requests are up over 300% in the past 5 years Now, either we’ve had a mass event resulting in a 3x in the numbered of disabled people in the past half decade, OR, more likely, is that people figured out they can get free Lightning Lanes by claiming their IBS is a disability that needs accommodation. Disney’s response is apt and correct. You aren’t qualified for DAS; however, you do qualify for alternative accommodation. A bathroom urgency is a bathroom urgency. Parents with kids have to exit lines all the time. I did on my last trip. Disney has zero problem with this. They promptly usher you out and you are free to re-enter to your spot in line. That’s your accommodation for IBS. You need to use the restroom? Grab a number. So did a dozen other families in the same line that morning. Disney handles it swiftly. That’s the solution. DAS is for the developmentally disabled. Those who truly cannot stand in an extensive queue. Not those adults who find 45 minutes to be inconvenient and they may have to exit to use the restroom. Oh really? Take a look around. We’ve all been there. I can and I do understand. It sucks. You have to ask to exit and they rush you out. You come back. Big deal. It’s not ideal, but it’s part of life. You aren’t entitled to free lightning lanes as a result.

In at Disneyland Paris I had to bring documentation from my doctor etc to prove why I needed their version of DAS and even then it wasn't easy to get. From what I understand though with laws in the US they can't ask you for a doctor letter or ask what your condition is (correct me if I'm wrong please). Going to the US parks is going to be a lot harder now and a lot less enjoyable. If I have to leave the line for the bathroom etc and then cut back into the line, that's not going to happen with me. That'll set off my anxiety(that's not what I used DAS for) to pass folks heading back into the line. I don't look sick so people are going to just think I'm cutting in front. If I have to go through all that to ride a few rides a day, then forget it. I'll go find something else for vacation.

Typically giant corporations don’t care about these small interest groups opinions but with the aid of social media some of them have had success keeping corporations from being tyrants. This is corporate greed and that’s it. They’re trying to make the large attractions inaccessible for disabled people forcing them to either have to purchase something in order to enjoy all their attractions or just not do them at all which helps their issues with overcrowding. This situation is appalling and extremely ableist. I seriously never thought Disney, out of all the corporations out there, would be treating the disabled community this horribly basically taking away their ability from accessing their parks. It should be criminal but it isn’t. What it is though is wicked and horrid. I hope the DAS defenders are successful but I definitely have strong doubts Disney will care or even slightly consider the DAS defenders position on concerning this topic.

DAS is for people who truly cannot wait in line. Having to use the restroom isn’t a DAS qualifying accommodation. My last trip to Disney I had to leave the line multiple times as our kids, surprise, are kids and had restroom urgencies. Guess what? I asked a cast member and every time we were expeditiously ushered out of line in under a minute, and were able to return. Zero issues. My nephew has severe autism to where Disney isn’t even an option with DAS. When I hear people complain about standing in line because they have to exit to, what, use the restroom?! I shake my damn head. DAS are for developmentally disabled individuals and families. Having a bathroom urgency is a “take a number” situation. Welcome to what every Disney parent with small kids endures. Waiting in line for half an hour and hearing, “oh! I have to go now!” And the constant reminding of, “go to the restroom” prior to every time we enter a line. Big deal. It’s part of life. Many more people deal with it than the ones who insist they can’t possibly leave the line to use the restroom. Heck, me and my kids had to this past trip! I still wonder what happens when you enter a lightning lane and enter a ride and that process is 20-25 minutes, yet somehow that’s not a problem. You’re telling me this “urgency” to go to the restroom just disappears when in a lightning lane? So, if it happens in a lightning lane, you can just exit and return. So why can’t you do this in the normal line? Complete joke!

@WDWNT and why would she not deserve das? My 6 year old son has had 14 knee surgeries does he deserve a das pass? My 9 year old son has type 1 diabetes does he deserve das?

@@derek81222 are there reasons that he can’t wait in a line or stand? Then possibly 🤷🏽‍♀️

@whitneyfluttershyelizabeth I mean we could ask can he or she wait in line all day but I'll stand by what I said and that most of the people that are crying were probably abusing the system. "disney adults" would know the system well enough to find a loophole so now that it's been abused to this point people with true disabilities will have to fight to get a das pass.
