In 1974, when I was 18, I joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. It was one of the most influential moments in my life as I learned to appreciate cultures other than my own. I listen to music from as many countries as T can and I do not need to know the language to appreciate how beautiful the music is. Many times it brings me to tears and this was one of those times. Bravo!

It makes total sense. It is voice of Bulgaria. What is the purpose, if you do not promote your own music, but sing English songs..? I am always of the opinion that English music has corrupted the whole of the world. All the Voice competition worldwide have at least 60% English songs being sung by the competitors. And why..? Why can't you promote your own beautiful culture..? This is by chance, I got to listen to a beautiful but sad song sung by Petya. My friend tells me, the first song here she sung, has dark history, and is often looked upon in sadness, about the bad deeds by the Turks inflicted upon the Bulgarians.

Yes, indeed - most songs were from an area in South Bulgaria, from 18-19th century and one of them is for the kidnapped kids. All amazing and deep! I was actually thinking about the same thing, the countries uniqueness - "Katerino mome" - with the blond girl Dessi and Petya. It says -"Young Katerina, why are so beautiful?" It has modern sound/arrangements and it would be great for Eurovision as example. Take care, dear! God bless!

I am from India, and I love her songs and her version of it. I feel goosebumps when she sings, and it is the power of music, even though I cannot understand what she sings.

From my point of view, this songs and the way of 🎶 singing with all vocals tehniks belong to Macedonian folk music 🎶 🎶 🎶... And there is as a proof all luriks in those songs.

@@ljiljanamihajlovic4576 Obviously your point of view is wrong. All the songs are from different regions of Bulgaria. And it has actually 6 folklore regions each of them unique and very rich in melodies. And if you read a bit of history you will see that Macedonian region was only one part of Bulgaria which was given to Yugoslavia after the Second World war. There are so many documents proving that people considered themselves Bulgarians before the repressions of the communists.
Her voice sounds like an instrument. So captivating!

Takoha, I will translate for you the meaning of one of the songs: "Zornitse, Mila sestritse..." Zornitsa is a female name, but here is the name of the Morning.. One joung male talks to the Morning: Zornitse, dear sister, don't shine so bright every morning in our house, don't make my little children to wake up, don't make my young wife to cry 🙂 It is a simple song for the love amongst the members of an young family. No wonder the mythical Orpheus lived there. the land of Bulgaria, the land where singers with voices of angels are born
I've only heard this type of singing in movies. But now listening to a whole song start to finish I find is very captivating. I never thought I would be listening to this type of singing in a million years. Mostly because I don't understand anything other than it is pleasant to listen too.

If you enjoy this, look up Lisa Gerrard. Chances are the songs you heard in movies were probably her. She did the soundtracks for a ton of movies including Gladiator, The Insider, and lots of others. She was also a member of the band Dead Can Dance.

If we did what you suggest we would have still been a tiny group of apes, if at all, wandering around Africa. The richness of Bulgarian folklore and Bulgarians, the resilience to last for 1300 years through all hardship is that we love what we have and keep it but it also evolves with us and the world. Closure to the outside world always leads to weakness and disappearance.

Что то мне сразу фильмы Троя и Гладиатор вспоминаются, в мрачных кадрах, руины, потерпевшее поражение войско... Сильный голос, слушаю и сердце готово выскочить.

A в "Троя" и поет болгарский женский хор... Eще и в других голливудских фильмах и сериях сльiшно болгарское народное пение. Например серия "Xena", фильм "The ghost ship", "The Hummingbird" с Джейсеном Стейтом (песня "Малка мома")...

I've never heard anyone sing this way 🥰! I did not understand what she was saying but just her voice transported me elsewhere than on earth 🌍 (only one other music has the same effect on me is Native American music) and even managed to make me have tears in my eyes 😥! despite my ignorance in words, I really liked her blind audition and her battle 😍! thank you for making me discover this artist 👍! may she have a lot of success in her future career! This is because most of those movies are using the Bulgarian Folklore as an effect and mix it with modern style.

Amazing! Blind audition was the best.
The music is 'suave, I can just drown in it forever, I wished I understood the lyrics It's something similar to the Persian ' chant. Thank you I love it from Fiji in the South Pacific, all the best

Only if you want to close yourself to your village. The magic of Bulgarian folklore is that it was never closed, always vibrant and alive and it integrates with everything a musician finds in his life. Like it is doing in the video we are writing under. Maybe learn something from it.
