CO2 in CONCRETE: FACT OR FICTION.

Ғылым және технология

In the following video, I get into the discussion of should we put CO2 into concrete.
Leading research groups show that carbonating concrete can increase strength and reduce the formation of calcium oxy-chlorides. Both are rooted in the development of calcium carbonate through a combination of calcium hydroxide already in the concrete and CO2.
CO2 can be added by:
- Saturating old concrete in a pressurized environment
- Adding titanium dioxide to concrete to increases affinity to imbibe CO2, and
- Adding CO2 into fluid concrete during the mixing process.

in mortars in china, india, south america they used organic materials that may have had organisms to create co2 as the material aged. Recently research suggested using root crops to lower cement. Looking at bacteria ferric oxide cements. Geopolymer. Wow what a great time to be alive.

Definitely excessive bleeding in the field, but I did notice great temperature control in high ambient temperatures. Optimization helps with the bleeding. Used it now a couple of times, cold weather concrete is an issue with long delayed set times. But I think they are getting closer.

many years ago I worked in a old terraced house and it had a coal cellar and we put a dry mix of sand and Portland cement no water at all and a day later it was rock solid I was just amazed that they didn't use water.but to me it was sandy at the top.PS from the UK we used to have coal delivered.years ago they just chucked it down this hole at outside of a terraced house

You missed one...Solidia has a non hydraulic cement that hardens with CO2 (No pressure used)..this already being being sold commercially in concrete paving applications

Thank you Deepak but I don’t believe I missed anything. The intent of this video was not a product pitch but a recognition of a new and emerging tech that has taken some time to find a solid foothold in the industry.

@@IntelligentConcrete I dint mean you missed a product.. you missed one other way of introducing CO2 to concrete.. there are also plenty of research publications but I agree it's fairly new

What about using carbonated water to make lime based concrete? It seems like that would increase early compressive strength. I've wondered about this before.

@@IntelligentConcrete Thanks. I'm a weirdo. I'm obsessed with lime based concrete.
