CNC Fabric Cutter: First Test

Ғылым және технология

This is the first test of my home made CNC fabric cutter. Sending it one of Mach3's stock g-code files to see if it can draw it. The file is intended for a router, so there are lots of pauses from dwell times and spindle direction changes would occur, and the pen is just held down the whole time so it is one continuous line. Still a good first test though. Rapids from end to end are 1000 IPM. It could go faster, but that's about as fast as I'd ever want to run it I think.

Hello. Very interesting and impressive build. I own a company here in the US that makes bed sheets and mattress pads. We work with fabrics up to 120 inches wide and do most of our cutting by hand. I would like to buy (or have someone build) a machine very similar to this. Are you ready to go into business yet??!! If not, any suggestions on how we might find someone to build one of these for us? Thanks...

Hi Pyro, nice machine. Are the motors direct drive to rack and pinion or do they have a reduction?

Pyro, I saw your post on the shapeoko forums. I was wondering if you had more detailed information on your build process, especially the multi-tool head. I am new to CNCs so this would be my first build, but I want to put together something similar to what you have here, with plotting and fabric cutting capabilities. Were you able to use the standard electronics package from the shapeoko kit? If not, what pieces did you upgrade?

I didn't use a shapeoko kit, but I did use a kit from automationtechnologies.com which bundled the stepper motors, drivers, power supply and a breakout board. This is a petty standard CNC setup with Mach3 running on a PC as the controller software.

Hello, I actually don't sell these currently. I built it for my own use, but might someday offer kits as a low-cost solution. That would be over a year away though, and even then only if there were enough interest.
