If you look at his debut match as “Micheal McGillicutty” he actually was pretty decent. I don’t believe that if you come from a famous wrestling family you will immediately become the total package but Axel and great in ring work. Now he wasn’t a god on the mic but nothing that manager like Paul Heyman (who was his manager btw) couldn’t fix. If they actually tried and moved forward with pushing him at least competing at the top of the mid card. Then I feel like he could have been great. Could have had a better run as intercontinental champion like Barrett and Miz. I’m fine with him being put over, but it’s Brock Lesnar. Either put him in a squash match against a jobber or have him wrestle a guy where it won’t matter. You don’t book a main event guy to consistently lose in big matches especially when your roster is that thin. Punk is right. Bret Hart did it the right way when he was a main event guy. He’d go over, but he’d give the other guy a good match that got both of them over. His match on Raw with Waltman is a good example. But if you have a monster like Brock, don’t bury a main event guy. We know what Lesnar can do. The booking made no sense and Phil was right.

And now that he's in his 40's and established, he's a midcarder guy that they can put in main events. Punk was the number 2 active roster member, and he was used as a stepping stone for the part timers and Cena to have matches with each other. Loses to Rock and Cena, they main event WM29. That removes the taker loss (even though losing to taker doesn’t hurt anyone unless your giant gonzalez ) and he should have had a 3 PPV match Program with Brock . If you didn't grow up in the performance center you're less likely to want to take bullcrap from creative because you have that "I've been doing this shit my whole life" mentality. Punk wants himself to believe he's on that Brock/Rock/Roman level because if he doesn't then what the hell did he just spend a whole chunk of his life doing? But at the end of the day the time away from wrestling has been really affecting him heavily. He easily could have had a 5 year long post-WWE career on the indy's, shown up on AEW when it first launched, and retired in the WWE and arguably would have made more money in the long run than he's making right now if he invested it properly. Showing up after 10 years to be the Golden Boy of AEW for less than a year felt like a really sour note in his career (He did have some bangers while he was there and his legs weren't shattering into dust tho)

This is a fake clip. The dude he is talking about in this soundbite is Ryback. This dude clipped out that part and put Brock in the title for clicks.

@@Blood-zz2kt guys like Jericho and Christian were losing to people like Ryback, Del Rio, Sandow, Fandango around that time. Punk needs to simmer down and realize he just came off of a 14 month long wwe title reign and realize it was time to give back to the business a bit. If he stayed, he would have been in the main event by survivor series 2014 or so. He wasn’t above being IC champion for a bit

Haha the casual viewer doesn’t give a flying f about CM Punk. He was doing record low ratings as champion. He’s not as big as those guys. And by the way Rock feuded with the hurricane and it was more entertaining and memorable than any feud Punk had with during his year long title reign. If you’re that big of a deal anything you do would be a big deal.
