A few months ago I wanted to play a strategy game like Warhammer 40k, but had zero investment in them. What I did have were many LEGO Star Wars sets, particularly the Clones and CIS. So I set out to build my own simplified version of the strategy game with minifigs and vehicles. It doesn't surprise me that a game like Star Wars Legion exists; and I am happy that this part of the franchise is alive and well!

Duuuude I literally did the same thing about five years ago focusing on utilising the brick built nature of the Lego models to factor into the gameplay. Damage from weapons would be randomly allocated to regions of the ships and then individual bricks would be removed to show damage. Of those bricks were key systems like weapons or shields, the ship lost those systems haha Good fun!
Just getting into legion now and these will be my very first minis paint. Super excited and this is just what I needed!

Much prefer the first method. To me the first, even before the drybrush, looks nicer than the second when finished. I'd also like to add you're tempting me to get some clones, even though I much prefer the Original Era. I really liked this tutorial, I followed it for my legion models, it was great right up until the basing stage. I don't know what I've done differently but my Mars Earth looks nothing like the one in this video. Mine just looks like sand, not gravel, and as soon as I get to the dry bush stage, it just all brushes off and doesn't apply. Even dry brushing the rocks just removed the pigment and turns them white. I even used the same PVA glue.

If you made the drybrush damp on the second part the clones would've come out like the first set and even better as its a slightly shorter paint job doing it that way, it's an in-between of a drybrush and overbrush that stops that chalky look of pure drybrushing

Just curious, I was looking online at the different contrast paints, would the space wolf grey work better than apothecary white? It seems to give a some what similar level of white on the highs but the recesses seem a lot darker. Do you have any comments or experience in regards to this? Thanks!
@Zorpazorp
4 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian! I haven't tried it but I think they would both work better over a bright white prime, so maybe do that and perhaps thin it a little bit with contrast medium to try and retain more of that white :) If you give it a go be sure to post i on our community page, facebook.com/groups/zorpazorp
Great guide Zorpa! Used your droid guide and then this for the clones - although I’ve just started - need your advice I used corax white as a primer and it’s turned out a bit grey - should I do a white scar layer let it dry and then go in with the glaze?
@Zorpazorp
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's why I use the Tamiya, it's a really bright white. Could layer the white scar but it will take a lot of time, might be worth trying to grab a brighter primer? You can still work up from Corax but your drybrush will have to do more work and it wont look as clean.
Great Tutorial!! I will be using the first method on my clones!! I like the shiny aspect of the figures!! Btw you might consider painting a dark hand on the chest of one of the heavy gunners!! That's the scheme of a clone on the series part of domino squad called Hevy!!

Rewatching in preparation of painting my Stormtroopers this weekend and it occurs to me; why not paint the black 'eyebrow' straight after the white? Wouldn't it mean you can do it without too much worry of screwing up since it's just white below and nothing else? I know the rest of the black is done using the wet blending to make it easier but this doesn't need that.
