Object, Subject, Verb. "Will eat" is the future tense verb, so it's Marshmallows I will eat.

@@Scarybug I believe it's more accurately "Main verb object, Subject helping verb." It gives us phrases like "Begun, the Clone War has," and "Found someone, you have!" Then again, there's countless instances in every Yoda appearance of him ditching the backwards talking and just speaking normally, so who knows what his deal is.

Clipping Yoda is shadowbanned from returning to the show, so it's nice to see someone else thinks about him all the time

one of my favorite things about your animations is that they feel like short films or clips from a TV show, because you have such a good sense of angle and where the "camera" should be and that makes them so dynamic. one of my OTHER favorite things is the fact that griffin slap yoda....funny....

Essay incoming: I think either “eat marshmallows I will” or “marshmallows I will eat” would be acceptable, depending on context. At first, my gut instinct was that Yoda’s dialect requires Main Verb - Direct Object - Subject - Helping Verb, but I looked at some Yoda quotes, and that’s not true. Yoda’s sentence structure varies wildly. So I have a new theory. Theory: in Yoda’s dialect, the first position in a sentence has the highest emphasis, so the most important ideas go at the front of the sentence (that’s typically the main verb and the direct object.) Helping verbs and linking verbs (aka boring words) typically go in the final position. If the only verb in the sentence is a form of “to be,” the direct object comes first instead. We can see analogues to this in real-world languages: in Classical Latin, the final position in a clause is the most important, so although *in theory* the words can be spoken in any order, in practice, the verb is usually last. That means that (in Yoda-ish) “correct” sentence structure depends on previous sentences. If information has been previously given, it’s deemed less important, and is moved further right. Therefore: Q: What am I going to eat? A: Marshmallows, you will eat (Because “eating” is a repeated idea) BUT Q: What will I do? A: Eat marshmallows, you will (Because “eating” is new information.)

From what I've heard, the correct syntax for Yoda-speak is just Spanish grammar applied to English sentences. "I am going to eat marshmallows" is a bad example though, because it's the same either way.

I think people forget that in the original trilogy yoda did say a good bit of his lines correctly
