Does this method work good for block leading ?

No, if you make a rope anchor and you need to lead the next pitch you are stuck in the system. You’d have to have the second build an anchor for them to belay you off of so you can remove yourself from the system. Rope anchors like this are great for swinging leads. For block leading you’re better off using slings or a cord anchor. Rope anchors are quick and easy and help with trading off leads.

Why would you want to be redundant when you’re just sitting there, when you’re not redundant while you’re climbing?

You are redundant when climbing…. How many clips did you make on the climb and then in multipitch, you have an anchor at the bottom of the respective pitch.

@@summitseekersexperience using your logic, you were already redundant when you set up that top anchor. Don’t play games, You know what I’m talking about. you are only tied into the rope while climbing. That’s not redundant. Before you got “redundant” in this video. you were tied into both anchor bolts and all the gear below. There was no need for a PAS unless you were planning to untie for the next pitch. I get everyone’s a know it all in the comment section, but this made no sense to me. The Advantage of the method you showed was that you didn’t need a PAS. Being scared on the wall is going to waste your time. You either trust the rope or you don’t lol Anyways, constructive criticism. Catch you later dude! 😛

I think the real point here is that the anchor was redundant as soon as the rope was cloved into both bolts. What he is accounting for with the second attachment to the harness is the extension/shock loading that would occur if the leftmost bolt failed. In my opinion is not worth the time and creates a messy belay station, but to each their own.

Agreed, the "redundancy" is outdated when climbing on non-trad anchors. But when making a belay station on traditional gear, it's critical.

@@zbnmthI would be redundant if there was a rock strike on the left anchor which cut the rope leading to his original figure 8 on his harness.

Could I use this for a top rope anchor? I have a crag near me that has bolts pretty far from the ledge, I'd like to use this method to extend a master point over the ledge then top rope off of it.

If the anchors are on traditional gear it's highly recommended. There are no laws, but if you need to ask: go to a local climbing school. This is no substitute for a course.
