Climbing MOUNT PINATUBO (Philippines Active Volcano)
MOUNT PINATUBO - A BEAUTIFUL DISASTER.
The term was coined about the eruption in 1991, casting a previously unknown volcano into the limelight.
Lahar flows decimated communities near the mountain, but it formed a beautiful crater lake that is now enjoyed by so many.
From Baguio I rode to the jump-off point in Capas, Tarlac - and then with my friends from Gears/ARB Philippines we drove up one of those lahar flows, the one that drains the crater lake.
Then it's an hour-long hike to the viewpoint itself - and what a beautiful disaster it was indeed.

As active duty US NAVY at the time, I was stationed at Subic Bay US NAVAL STATION (Naval Air Station Cubi Point, at the Bataan province side of the base) during the eruption. I was there from 1990 until the bases eventually closed down in late 1992. It was a natural event to remember for the rest of my life, 18 hours of pure darkness and chaos all around. Sometime after I retire again for the second time, I would love to visit and make a pilgrimage in honor of my fallen comrade who was the only active duty casualty during the disaster. May he rest in peace.

I was on the USS Cape Cod AD43 during the Pinatubo eruption. We pulled into port.. covered in ash. We evacuated alot of depends and took them to Hawaii! Now I live in Angeles city.
Kummander Daot bring us the best National Geo quality adventures around the Philippines 🎉 The world temperature went down by 0.5c due to ash in the atmosphere!

I can still remember you squat sitting outside Kulas' gate with a failing bangus farm and here you are making grade A videos of Philippine travel vlogs. IMO you are on top of the food chain. I'm always looking forward when your new video comes out.

Memories.
I remember those bangus, crab and tilapia days from Kulas' vlogs. Now look at where you are now: making gems that are worth watching over and over again.
I was there during the eruption of Pinatubo. I was a freshman in hs and my dad was in the Air Force. Haven’t been to Pinatubo yet, but I definitely want to go. Great video Kumander!
for real dude, department of tourism should be paying you for this, thank you, funding you would cost them less than their campaigns, but this is more effective
This is what I call, ADVENTURE 😎👍💯
10:26 KumanderD's baptism = You're a genuine digital Explorer and Adventurer, Anselm. What a LEGACY you've paved for LILY and your UK family!! Your father will return to Pinas -- if only to visit Mt Pinatubo. ... The picture of the LAKE left me BREATHLESS. Unforgettable! Thank you for this vlog, KD.
My French student is now working as a project director for the new Clark to Manila subway. His French company is working together with Japanese company. BTW, what a beauty that Mt Pinatubo is..a femme fatal..
It's been awhile since I've watched your videos, but dayum the quality of your videos now are incomparable. Great work!
Thumbs up 👍KD NO1😍 love the drone views ❤
Baguio is one of my favorite places in the Philippines! The trek to Pinatubo looks incredible!
Silent viewers here, NO SKIP ADS in all your vlogs KD, our way of thanking you for showing us the beauty of Phils...we're watching National Geographic channel in your vlogs ❤❤❤
I was stationed at Clark AFB in the early 80's prior to the eruption. My friend and I used to ride the narrow walking paths on our dirt motorcycles. The place is totally different now, of course. Thank you.
Wow! This is one of the places in the country I would love to visit. I lived in Pangasinan back in 1991 when it erupted. It was raining ash, snowfall probably looked the same (which we do not have in PH). Lahar then plagued the region for months to come. Seeing it beautiful today is amazing. Layoa na nimo naabtan oi, amping kanunay KD!
Having a bud light and watching lol 🤭😊🙋♂️🇨🇦
Something about that narrow passage leading to the cratter seems familiar. Reminds me of another time, another place, and something about a villainous bridge troll and having to answer three ridiculous questions correctly to pass through, or else.. Boom! You end up in the creator. BTW, I love those trucks.
Hi KD…thank you for visiting the city where l came from…enjoy Baguio🧡
Hi kumander your videos are 1st class thanks for sharing Love from your Scottish friend xx 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
Oh boy! That’s an appetizer ? for me that’s my whole day meal. It’ fun,👍👍👍
What an adventure komander. I was born in Angeles city but, never had the chance to go Mount Pinatubo. When I was a teenager, we use to ride our dirt bike to that area but never did we know that is a volcano. Not after it erupted and the US Airforce left due to the destructions it caused. Maybe when I go back to PI I will try to go there. Thanks for sharing your adventures. San Diego, CA.
Wowwwww!!!! Stunning view!
The ending music was gold, Selos by Shaira is played in Benguet 😅
I remember the eruption very well the Phosphorous Cleaned the Canals in Luzon, Acid Wash Jeans came out and the volcano that kicked out the Americans and the end of Subic Base and Clark Air Base. What a Wicked Volcano!❤
That’s a long trip Kumander! I wonder how it really is when not on camera?! Love what you do! Great show! 🤙🏾👍
Always my favorite part of your vlog are your drone shots. What a beautiful and breathtaking view of the crater lake and the surrounding landscape. The whole vlog is awesome. Such an exciting adventure traveling to the volcano. Surprised to see a lot of people visiting the volcano. Good for tourism. Thanks again for taking us with you on this wonderful trip. Always watching from Arizona USA and not skipping ads to support you.

I remember the time Pinatubo erupted. I was in grade 5 living in balibago angeles city. Seeing the mushroom cloud as it erupted, experienced earthquakes every minute, ash and rocks falls, total darkness.

Was there in Baguio 1991 roads are nicer now than back then of course the destruction was horrible, dry up rivers and Kids begging for money on are way down the mountain, what an experience

My son and I done a quad bike ride just outside of angeles, near clark airbase in 2018, up the laha track, same it started to rain and we had to get out quickly, but we went back 2 days later and spent 45 minutes having a awesome and amazing ride 👍🇦🇺

9:14 - I thought that's coffee! 😁☕ I'm from Manila but I remember looking out my window the morning after Pinatubo erupted and wondering why the trees looked like it has snowed on them. ⁉ It was only later on that I found out it's volcanic ash.
It was interesting to see how things have changed. I worked at the US Embassy from 1983-87 and 1990 to 1995 making regular trips to Clark and Subic to shop. I had vacationed on Fortune Island at Subic just two weeks before the eruption. I spent a good bit of time up at Subic and Cubi Pt. during the closing of bases there salvaging equipment and supplies to use at our printing center. I have a collection of photos from Clark AFB showing the destruction. Clark AFB was inundated by lahar flowing down the Socobia and evacuated on 24 hours notice with all the personnel evacuated to Subic. It was inundated by 3-4 feet of volcanic ash. Even in Manila was covered with about 5mm of ash. It looked like it was snowing. I had a Mitsubishi Pajero and to deal with the dust equipped it with optional a centrifugal dust separator I ordered from Mitsubishi in Japan. Installed before the air cleaner it spun the incoming air in a small drum and the dust would drop out into a container at the bottom. You might consider adding one to your SUV if not already equipped with one to deal with dusty environments.
ride safe kumander daot
"Mt. Pinatubo" was the name of President Magsaysay's presidential plane that crashed in Mt. Manunggal in Cebu in 1957.
9:30 That VIEW is out-of-this-world SPECTACULAR!! Mt. PINATUBO looks like Sleeping Beauty. Shhh 🤫... Don't wake it, Kumander.
11:22 the pig is looking for truffles 😊
Wow You're here in Baguio KD
I saw from another vlog that berries you mentioned are actually native figs. It is edible and sweet.
The grey sand is called "white sand" as when it is dry it turns white because of the pummice. We use it for all the concrete production in the Luzon area. Been in Angeles 1 year now working so must get round to visiting Mount Pinatubo. Can see it from my office.
@KumanderDaot
Ай бұрын
I've seen similar sand used in Gensan area, I think from Mt Parker's eruption in 1664. Makes good concrete, right?
@dumbmutts.7758
Ай бұрын
@@KumanderDaot as it is without processing conforms to the DPWH requirements, which most projects work to. Best sand there is here for concrete production.
always good to see a Rotary sign in the middle of nowhere
Year 1991 I was in grade 1 pupil and I'm 7 yrs old of that year. And now I am 39 years old medyo matagal na yong pagsabog noon ng mount pinatubo.
Gwapoha sa Land Cruiser 80 og Pajero uy!
Wow you can really say this Kumander?? Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis… butangi hahahaha
I like Thai food no doubt, not greasy.
Look up the Geological action called Sorting,,will help understand why all the rocks of similar size end up bunched together
😊❤😊
Snippet: Keep in mind the edge of the mountains or the cleft is not solid rock but a sandstone, which can easily collapse with strong erosion from salt water, strong winds and torrential rain-pours, overtime, but the big sky above and the big ocean below it -- are the most sought after and costly spot where to build a dreamy home. Any home would be safe enough from vicious hurricanes and frequent inland flooding. I hope you are wearing hiking footwear -- walking in those rugged trenches and Alps. Nice find, general. be blessed. may2024

Gotta love some ARB air lockers. Not sure what American vehicles can still use those. Jeep I think .

They use ARB in the states for installing a front locker on our Toyota 4Runners. Lots of other vehicles I think too, they are very popular here.
