Philippines SQUID FISHING! Southern Leyte's Whale Shark Capital PINTUYAN
PHILIPPINES SQUID FISHING IN SOUTHERN LEYTE'S WHALE SHARK CAPITAL, PINTUYAN!
Locals call this "pygmy squid". They told me that this seafood, found in the shallow bay, doesn't grow any larger than this.
At 5:30pm, just as the sun is setting, an armada of small fishing boats go out into the bay for around an hour, just enough time to drop these improvised fishing lines into the water and hook squid on! Pulling them up, how many will I catch?
Then it's time for some aged tuba and dinner - these "nucus" are delicious cured in vinegar, eaten raw - sweeter than the larger squid!
The next day, time to do what Pintuyan is famous for - spotting whale sharks! The whale sharks come in and out of the bay at their own leisure - they are not fed by humans. We saw 5! Better luck this time!
And what an experience that was!
Then I visited the mountainous spine of Panaon Island - what I'd always hoped to do. It was so windy up there but an absolutely fantastic contrast to the coast.
And in the eco park at the bottom, I walked along part of the 1933 Pintuyan to Liloan trail. Until the 1980s, this was the way in and out! A huge contrast to the new(ish) Saddle Road, named as maybe Philippines' most dangerous, that I entered Pintuyan on!
My trip is almost over. But this was an awesome ending!

What a great experience to be able to swim with whale sharks! The first time I ever saw someone doing that was when I was a child watching it on a Jacques Cousteau television program. From that time I always thought that would be so exciting to do. That's a definite bucket list item.

Glad you had nice encounters. The dive boat from Padre Burgos was Peter's Dive Resort which i had some of my best dives near Pintuyan. I assume you took the san Ricardo roro back to Mindanao

Pilar Sorsogon started the whale shark watching. Then Oslob got a bigger market share because the Butandings were being fed and domesticated. Commander Daot just shared another beautiful site that can give income to the people as long as they keep the butandings wild.

Hello nice vid Love this part of leytes I spend my holidays from uk here at my gf house in Catabawan And have just bought land you would of rode past just as you entered Catabawan Riding from Pintuyan to liloan around the tip of Panagon island is good fun as there still repairing the road since Odette Have a great road trip (Im from uk) Be back in june 👍
