I love that so many people are learning & trying to make good choices! I wish we could get Big businesses and builder's schools to teach this! Where can we make the BIGGEST changes in a fast way?

Easy English does a terrific job coming up with new topics and asking the opinion of the British on them. It was interesting to learn about the ways the Brits try to conserve energy and save the environment in this episode. 👏🤟

@@EasyEnglishVideos I’m Brazilian living in the United States and I trying to improve my British listening and accent because I’m about to spend half a year working there. After that, I’ll have 20 days of vacation so I’m going to explore your culture as much as possible. Can’t wait! Brilliant job! Gonna support you guys(ops! Mates!) via Patreon. Thanks for your work.

Another great episode, dear Easy English! I just love your content!! 💗 One thing nobody spoke about and that I started to become more and more aware of over the past few years is how everybody can also easily contribute to protecting the environment by paying attention to what they are putting their money into on a daily basis. What are we actually feeding (in terms of brands for instance) and helping grow with the money we spend, and what kind of impact does that make for our society, environment and planet? I'm not necessarily talking about donating or contributing to organizations and projects that specifically work for protecting the environment and nature, although that is also a beautiful way to be a part of meaningful changes and I would personally also encourage anyone who is so inclined to do so (just another place where every small contribution counts). But what I actually mean is more the actual stuff we buy at the store (from food and toilet paper and tissues to clothes etc.) and how "good" or "bad" that kind of small choices can be for the bigger picture. One thing I like is that there are more and more small startups/brands that not only pay much more attention to how they make things in terms of the environment, social impact, transparency an so on, but also attach their products to specific social or environmental projects (like planting a tree for each sold item of whatever kind). So you buy and donate/support something you care about such as nature and our environment at the same time. I kept noticing this trend in Germany more and more, and I'm sure there must be some of those in the UK as well. It's actually quite nice to keep planting trees and making many small contributions to something meaningful while just going about your usual (vegetarian/vegan, recycling, public transport etc.) day and getting your needs met, isn't it? Also, it's a good reminder that doing good or "the right thing" or specifically protecting the environment to the best of your abilities is not necessarily about being self-sacrificing or self-punishing. Just small daily options for a win-win. ✨

Ahh... thanks EmiDor! You make a good point too! I think people feel quite helpless but your money does talk. I see there's a general push for companies to appear more environmentally friendly or to virtue signal their sustainability. I think that's purely a reaction to us, the market.

@@EasyEnglishVideos Oh yes, the things we do to poor companies by forcing them to embark on all those "missions" to make the world a better place just to keep their heads above water... Selling used to be much easier on them back in the good old days, right? 😅 As for the helplessness people feel, I agree it is such a big part of any discussion around the environment (or the future for that matter). I think that's also one of the greatest dangers we are facing: often failing to recognize that, while there is so much out of our control, there are things we can indeed do, change and turn around when it comes to our own behaviour and lifestyle as well as in our politics, structures, hierarchies, markets, human society in general. People cannot be reminded enough of the kind of power that they do have. But anyway... I seem to be in endless writing mood today. The bottom line is that I truly appreciate your work going so much beyond what language learning channels do, and all the beautiful ideas, depth and humour you bring to this format, Mitch and Isi!

Is it weird that I love “defeatist” points of view and people that are not fakely cheery and always positive like most Americans are conditioned to be! So refreshing! I really do miss grumpy Europeans without perfect white blinding teeth! 😄 Go Europe! I was going to insert a EU flag but can’t really do that now … thanks UK!!!

I agree with that bloke who spoke about nuclear fusion as the holy grail for the world’s problems. I could have a beer with him. 😬 The real issue with the environment is overpopulation. Earth just can’t support this kind of population unless we find new technologies to minimise damage to earth. Being vegan, using windmills or solar power, using public transport or talking about avoiding fossil fuels is only symbolic and will not make a dent in solving our global environment problems.

My conversation with him (he was funnily enough a geological scientist, if I remember correctly) was really interesting. I thought about uploading my entire conversation with him to our Patreon, he was very honest, sincere but quite brutal. Might be what we need when talking honestly about the environment as I feel, with most things, it's not a simple, binary answer.

I try to use as little energy as possible, line dry clothes, use electricity when our solar panels are most effective, turn lights off and only use energy efficient bulbs. I also try not to use so many chemicals, I have green cleaning book that is really good ! You just have to do what you can ,really it's government and large businesses that will make the difference!

It's not for the environment, cause I'm a fatalist, but I decided not to have a driving license ever. I try to live as simple and hard as possible, as our forefathers lived. My great-grandfather didn't drive, my grandfather didn't drive, my father doesn't drive, I will not drive; I'll keep the tradition. My tip is: eat less, walk more, stop buying shit, no alcohol and Coca-Cola and learn Latin and Ancient Greek (even if it has nothing to do with the environment) believe me.
