Hello Jim from our NH farm. We just spread cow manure on the fields and now I get to go with you '-) . The horses did great together. The barn yard can be tricky when thinly frozen puddles lie in wait. The horses kept their heads and trusted you. Glad you are able to repair the sled. I so enjoy those sleigh rides out to the pond. Short answer is only once .You learn where it's safe to stand and walk very quickly . Ask me how I know ( proud old farm boy ). Always spread manure into the wind or a crosswind . Getting splattered with manure on the back of the neck , teaches wisdom quickly when spreading manure .😊😊😊

Ken is just a beast. When Baron struggles a little Ken just pulls him through it. As wet as it has been in your area do you ever have any issues with Thrush. Hoof Rot or Rain Rot or any other hoof or leg problems?

I love just watching the horses!! They looked a little frustrated as you were backing the spreader into the shelter... I noticed you stopped them for a minute. Was that to give them a chance to try again? It seemed to help them, anyway...It's nice you have William to help! A second hand makes such difference! Sooo...how does Skippy do with the cats?? Will they keep him in line? Or does he consider them prey? ( I hope not!!!) Thanks for another great video!! ❤

Yes the pause did seem to help. It was a difficult situation. We are glad to have William here, he is a great worker. Skippy and the cats actually get a long pretty well. Even though they have their spats, I think they are really mostly playing. He is not out to kill 😀.

Ken is such a good horse!!! you guys have the best farm--it's absolutely beautiful

Good morning guys, how do you get the manure, from stalls, to the 'waiting pile',to just before the manure speader? A wheelboro?. Wm?!. 😊 love knowing How the Scoot was built and the reconstructing of it, 'J' hooks, scoot runners, all of that is so interesting. I love wood working. I want to know what woods are good for what jobs. idk. Liked the manure spreading w Ken & Baron Jim. ❤❤❤ Hope you all have a gr8 day too.❤😊

I see Brenda getting her steps in today following the spreader. Barron looks like he is getting the spring back in his step. Good ole Ken just keeps plugging along. It was a little slippery backing the spreader in but the team Jim included didn't panic and got the job done. Skippy will learn about barn cats soon enough they won't back down. Are you planning on putting new steel runners on the sled Jim that would would help out a lot with the wear on the bottom. Love the calendar almost cried seeing Buck again. I think the gray kitty is showing Skippy that he doesn't want to play😘 Skippy is such a cute little feller! Do Ken and Baron have their "winter" shoes on? I couldnt tell. I remember Jim had to remove Baron's shoes before his surgery. Just out of curiosity, how old is that sled? It certainly has been a long lasting piece of equipment! Brenda, can you show us your Christmas tree sometime? It looked like a pretty one the day Jim cut it for you! Hope you all have a good weekend!

Baron doesn't have shoes on yet. Not sure how old the sled is. The tree looks pretty good! Maybe we can show it next week.

Baron paying more attention now, checking everything out as you hitch and unhitch. Skippy has been whacked by a cat already and watching himself, I love that he is always about with Brenda. Ken is understanding Amish horse talk, funny that, I guess they gather the intention, got the habits, maybe the actual words are irrelevant. I pray you get a white Christmas. The coolness of your videos continues. Love it. The progress of the rebuild of the old log skid sled is awesome, I appreciate you sharing. If you drill a large hole in the corner of the notch then the wood will not crack on the corner, cut to the radius of the hole, so the corner is radiused. This will make it very strong and take much more strain, removing the stress point.. I am sure you will do just fine. Look forward to seeing the progress, those J bolts are very cool. Nice work you guys. Those Ash Beams are beautiful, try to think radius not corner and it will be stronger. Love It! Thank you. :-) Skip has my heart. Ah ha

Great video ! That was a very difficult backing situation it called for some really good horses and a master teamster.

Do you think you will obtain another Percheron to work with Ken? Or, you are changing over to the Suffolk Punch and/or Belgian/Punch cross in the future and no more Percheron? Love you're showing how horses can be used still in farming and logging. I enjoy the horses because it is all so much quieter and better for the environment then the fossil fueled machines. Until the next time.

Skippy might have to get a few scratches on his nose from the cats before he learns his lessons. Really fascinating watching the repairs on the sled, I'm glad you're going to show that. Brenda that mixed berry pie in the last video really looked delicious. You really have got to be a "jack of all trades" when you live/work on a farm!

Reallky interesting how the sled is made, it looks so simple but quite technical really when you start to explain how it turns. Think I'll try making a sled, should suit my ponies

If you have a heavy equipment dealer close by you might be able to buy some used cutting edges off of a bulldozer . They would be perfect your sled.

Your craftmanship is realy nice to watch . And williams smill of taking out yhat rock . Was interesting to watch . Thankyou . Is it not late in the season to spread the manour ?? . I dont know Wonder about that .? Theres no dnow in utah either .you hsve more .

Another nice video Jim and Brenda and William! I like seeing the work on the sled. when you do go to putting it back together, even if you just set the camera to the side and let it run so we can watch no audio needed unless you want to ad comments. would just like to see the work being done. And excellant camera work from Brenda she gets a lot of exercise running along side what ever Jim has behind the horses. thanks for sharing! ECF

PG here Good job William and Ken getting that boulder out of the trail! We raise Kune Kunes just for smaller type pigs on one acre we need a type of manure spreader small scale. We clean out the pig's area every day but it just piles up. Baron and Ken were trying to avoid the little drainage ditch where you back the sled in. Seems problematic? Another Great video. Can not wait to see the new sled!

Yes, manure sure does pile up! Our pigs are frustrating. Even though we keep their pen cleaned out they still make a mess.

@@WorkingHorsesWithJim Thank you for responding. Maybe they are like the horse. They need to earn their keep. Do you have land you want cleared? Or the back acre maybe they could tromple those rows dug up for drainage? They are good at destroying things. (clearing and plowing. lolololol.) There is that area with all the weeds you tried to let the horses in but they broke out of there seeing other horses in the pasture. Just a strong but lower fence could do. I have seen people train pigs on electric fences.

Another excellent video from you guys I swear Jim could turn those horses on a sixpence (sorry I’m Scottish) he is a wonderful horseman. Such fun watching Skippy having a tussle with the cat he knows just how far to push his luck otherwise he’ll get a swipe on the nose. Take care 😊

No need to imagine Jean .Google daily weather reports for Jim's farm at Moria N Y ( probably Malone) .People wear clothes in layers and animals grow winter hair .Saw a fox one time pushing a rabbit , so he could chase it . Oh well at least no pesky flies and biting insects. Makes winter logging a joy .Merry Christmas Jean .😊😊😊

Was surprised how quickly William got the stone out. I knew he would get it but I thought it would take six or seven hitches onto the stone to drag the stone far enough

Yes cazzateish that can be a struggle . This is how I do it Baron a white star on forehead. Earl is darker than Duke .All 3 are chestnut color and match very closely . Lady and Bill a white flash down the front of the face but Lady more defined . That wonderful tan Belgian color . Ken a big black percheron. Bree , white flash down face and for now size .Hopes this helps .😊😊😊

This is true cazzateish . Some teamsters strive for perfectly matched teams . This why some of Jim's viewers want him to purchase another black percheron to match with Ken . Buck is now in Jim's horse grave yard .I suppose the fastest way to accomplish that would be to sell Ken . Ken is such a wonderful work horse I believe he is not for sale . But I am getting away from your original question . Cheers.

Jim, fill in that hole before reversing the trailer into the shed again. I thought poor Baron was going to fall backwards and injure himself. It did not make pleasant viewing. It looked like you weren't 100% happy with the situ either. How do you feel about my comment?

I believe no . Why bother not buying chemical fertilizer. Only growing 3 acres of corn for cobs .8 acres of oats ( and grass seed ) which is not threshed but mowed and round baled as feed for the beef cows .Rest of fields are hay for small square bales for horses ( or sell) .4x5 round bales for beef cows. Pasture acres has lots of grass for the animals .So conclusion manure is enough to fertilize the crop land . That new tile drainage should boost crops by 25 % but will have to wait for that result . Interesting question Dan .😊😊😊
