Cleared Hot Episode 230 - Michelle Black

Ойын-сауық

When Green Beret Bryan Black was killed in an ambush in Niger in 2017, his wife Michelle saw her worst nightmare become a reality. She was left alone with her grief and with two young sons to raise. But what followed Bryan's death was an even more difficult journey for the young widow. After receiving very few details about the attack that took her husband's life, it was up to Michelle to find answers. It became her mission to learn the truth about that day in Niger--and her book, Sacrifice, is the result of that mission.
After interviewing the survivors of a deadly ambush, it became clear to Michelle that the deaths of her husband and several soldiers were avoidable - mistakes were made. This Gold Star widow is on a quest to learn the truth about her husband’s death, but military officials refuse to provide details. In the process, she has learned that there are careers being protected by masking the truth.
As a result, Michelle has written the book Sacrifice: A Gold Star Widow’s Fight for the Truth in an effort to bring attention to the inconsistent lies of the military and the challenges in learning the real facts.

Holly shit Andy. You have always been an excellent interviewer, but you excelled at this one. A perfect mixture of compassion and humor. This one pulls at the heart strings. I cannot fathom what this brave woman has been through. I hope one day, the absolute truth will come out, and at least she can have some closure. I would definitely like to see Andy and maybe Mike Glover accompany her when she decides to approach the military and ask the tough questions. I can't think of many other more qualified subject matter experts than these two. Hand Salute Michelle. Your husband is the definition of a hero. Semper Fi.

Agree with other comments - that was a great podcast. What a brave and awesome lady Michelle Black is. Amazing effort to uncover the truth. It is so sad and fascinating how quickly organizations with get to "the bottom" of a problem. Yet almost no organization works to get to "the top" of the problem. And that is almost always where the problem lies. Root cause analysis in many cases is simply another euphemism for getting to the bottom. It is no wonder that Jocko and Echelon Front have such a thriving business around extreme owners and true leaders taking responsibility. Way to go Andy, you are getting so good at these.

My husband was in the military, not in SF. He had a hard time trying to discipline our boys after being away for 6-8 months. I had to talk to him and explained that he couldn't be away for a long time and come home and try to exert his role as a dad. He stays home for 6 months and then is gone for 6 months deployment. Sometimes, my husband would be gone for 12 months (hardship tour). I am very independent. I also have a job working in a bank, so the long separation did not bother me as much. Plus, raising 2 boys was wild, lol. So, I was a homemaker and a Red Cross volunteer, plus I work in a bank. I loved my life as a military. I basically grew up in a military base. Missed the closeness that I felt and had. Civilian life is totally different, big culture shock for me, and then entered a Church of God ministry, which is a different lifestyle in itself. But I was unfortunate that both husbands were not able to stay faithful in the marriage, which caused the divorce from the first one and separation from the second one, and I now live here in Texas.

I have also seen the same video with the actual audio including the screams etc. There was another video I saw which was taken later on after they all probably have died. It shows the dead bodies up close and then the group of terrorists talking with the bikes in the background. I was furious so i cannot begin to imagine what it must feel like for her and the family of those who lost someone that day. Not easy to watch at all.
