Most shelters love donations of things like hangers because that's the stuff people don't think of. I worked in a domestic violence shelter and we always needed hangers and stuff like that.

When I first saw the storage space I was like "Oh this won't be bad, that looks tiny..." Little did I know you had the clown car of storage spaces, stuff just kept coming out! Congratulations on facing this and clearing it out! I tend to avoid stuff like that because of emotions attached to things, but then I'm always glad I did it. You should be very proud! :)

My storage unit is my attic 😂 I’m the 6th generation living in this house, and let’s just say there is everything from furniture to pure trash from all previous generations up there... Also I might mention that I’m in a wheelchair and while I would be able to get up there (with help obviously) I would need some serious time, energy and man power to make it worth while. Cleaning and organizing 250 years of clutter isn’t an easy task 😂 plus there have been renos done so I’m not even sure beds or couches would fit back down the stairs. Although it would be therapeutic to throw them out through the window lol

Whenever i hear someone say they have a storage unit or are going to get one, my first thought is always that they'll never come back from that. Same thing with garages. Is it weird to say I'm proud of you Sarah? I went thru this same thing last year when i cleaned out my storage at my parents shed that was all me. So i know exactly what you went thru. I'm happy for you.

When I watch cleaning and organizing videos I always have a physical urge to jump through the screen and clean for people. If I scroll down to the comment section of these videos everyone is always saying this motivated them to clean and I'm left wondering if anyone else watches these videos doesn't need motivation and just watches because they have a deep desire to organize consuming them. I learned awhile back from a minimalist video that there never used to be storage places till they saw a need for them as everyone at time didnt wanna toss anything so was able to pay to store it away from home anytime. so u like kinda wasted money paying for space instead of just tossing what u not need really. we used to have a big room and then moved to smaller to pay less then got rid of them all together cause cost so much lol. they are not bad to have , but it just shows how much u really got if u gotta store at a place to make room for stuff u really want lol. so good u had chance to clean it out and decide what u needed to keep and toss or donate rest. so now u can save money more since not gotta keep the space no more to pay for over time.

thank you! I’ve always loved having a small space and seeing how I can store things and make use of the space. when I played with barbies I would make their whole house in one shoe box and loved designing the small space. I feel like I was just made for small spaces! lol

So motivating. This is right on time for me. I’ve been procrastinating tackling our storage unit. I need to just suck it up and get it done!

It is very cathartic to do this and it can be so emotionally draining as well.... in Britain they have a show called "The Life Laundry", where they just go in and force people to go through their crap and get rid of stuff that they don't want or need. I just love the title of that show.

It’s very therapeutic and uplifting to be rid of the storage unit I’m sure. My mom’s storage unit that had almost all of her things and my childhood items and missed a few payments and they sold everything inside. All my childhood things are gone. It really sucks but at least it’s dealt with and she doesn’t have to pay for it anymore. Same for you! This video was fun to watch :)

Coming from a 40 year old redheaded Sarah with an H, who loves Stephen King lp and thinks Halloween decorations are for all year round, I wish I decluttered years ago, my mum and I have now donated about 80% of our things. (Moving) its SUCH a great feeling to just let things GO. I am so happy you got rid of that storage unit. x

Well done, we have just emigrated to japan from the uk. I laughed , I cried, thought with my parents to give stuff away, husband knows I get emotionally attached so he let me do it in my own time. He just kept reminding that we hard a cargo crate that was all. I agree it is tough. I just cannot wait to be reunited with the things I have kept. And the house is smaller as well. So that made me chuck a ton of things out

Great job! I had to watch this....I have never had a storage unit (and could never afford to pay for one). I had to see what people pay to store.... I have moved 40 times in my life....many times across the country. I only keep what fits in my car, sell or donate everything and start from scratch on the other end with thrifted items. One time I moved across country with my mattress, covers, a box of kitchen basics, my toiletries and 2 bags of clothing.

Halloween decorations right up front, knowing the priorities. Also wish I had the comfort of mind to be able to throw stuff out because I know I don’t need it.

I do memory boxes, too 🙂 since my freshman year of college, I've been keeping a shoe box a year of things like movie tickets, Polaroids, name tags, letters, even bottle caps from a good friend date or a leaf from a peaceful walk... Just things that I know will bring back sweet, special feelings when I look through them again years later. ❤️ It's a more minimal way to still be able to hold and feel a time that's past

There is one building of storage units in my town, called "house of the things", but in Italy where I live isn't so common to use them. Actually now things are changing, consumerism is getting even here and people are starting to buy more and more. I'm in engeneering minor (last year of the first 3 year) so I'm super poor and super minimalistic ahahaha, I do actually keep decluttering my small room!

Oh girl....we just did the same thing in September.....and it had been there for 6 years as well. Ours was a larger unit and half went to trash. A lot got donated, and now I still have things I want to sell or get rid of now that the holidays are upon us.
