At a time when I hear people recommending books & movies that are so violent and are strewn with filthy language and sex, it is so refreshing to hear someone say no to that. Thank you so much for always being so classy and standing up against that sort of thing. It does not go unnoticed!

I agree, I gave up television years ago, watching someone getting hurt or killed isn't entertaining, I don't want to see sexual stuff either. Good stories lines with happy endings are what I enjoy. Helps my mind to rest and recoup from a busy day.

Your videos and books have inspired me more than I realized. My mother passed away last January and I sank into a deep depression. I woke up this morning with new hope after I prayed and had a cleansing cry. It felt like an avalanche crashed down off my shoulders. In spite of wanting to do as little as possible, I forced myself to dress in a flowery blouse and put my hair in an elegant bun with full makeup just to do laundry, homeschool, and cleaning. Subconsciously you encouraged me. I'm feeling so much better today just by doing this small thing. It's funny this video was on my feed today. Thank you.

Jennifer, it's nice to see you touched by the appreciative words of your audience. I also thought that my day began *after* the house was clean, meals were prepared, errands were run, and exercise was done. Not until your books did I face the fact that I am a mother of two, and those things comprise 99% of my day, and instead of seeing it all as busywork, I needed to treat each moment as a zen exercise of sorts. Your books truly did change my life, and the lives of the people I'm in contact with. I certainly carry myself with more dignity in a silk dress than in frumpy momwear. I would NEVER have put on a dress in the beginning of a hectic day. Dresses were for fancy occasions. But, I took your advice and bought some silk Rebecca Taylor dresses on ebay, and they're pretty much all I wear. Everybody comments on how nice I look, but they're the most comfortable, easy things to put on! How could I have thought otherwise?? Madness! My second most favorite thing in your books is how you talk about the French woman's way of maintaining an air of mystery. SUCH great advice, so fun to practice. You really explain, in a pragmatic American way, the French subtleties that otherwise seem so elusive to us. Thank you! :D

I completely agree with you regarding cleaning the house in a dress. I only wear dresses, and if I'm doing more thorough housecleaning, I change into a housedress (like my grandmother wore) to keep comfortable and cool, then just quickly tidy myself and pop back into my day dress. Great advice! Cheers from Ljubljana!

Hi Jennifer! Thank you very much for getting me out of the mom slump. For one year after giving birth I did something worse than wearing workout clothes everyday. I was wearing my husband's clothes everyday. Yikes! I did it to hide my body and I just got lazy to even try looking decent. I love your books and your wardrobe concept. I'm a brand new person now. I get up and dress up everyday. I'm a happier person and better mom because of it. From the bottom of my heart thank you, thank you, thank you!

I love the dress comments you made about cleaning the house. Do you you remember the days when women wore "house dresses" & aprons? My mother, my grandmother & all of my aunts wore them. Now i know one of the reasons they did. To keep cool! Thanks for all of your wonderful stories & advice. I so wish we could go back to the days when etiquette really was the most important thing :)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on all these things. I agree with you- I also don't watch TV much these days. I prefer to watch re-runs of old shows that I love and reading to my toddler. I love that I'm able to watch old shows with my teenage daughter that are classic and that aren't racy! Some example are I Love Lucy and Gilmore Girls. We have also taken up painting and listening to classical music, while we are not pros we enjoy the evenings sitting and enjoying being creative. 💕🌷it's much for calming and it makes life happier than being hypnotized by TV for hours. More ideas is that we love playing classic video games, not only are they easier, but they aren't violent! It's all about connecting and I want my girls to remember their childhood as a happy one- there's already so much real life stress who needs "fake stress?!" Haha have a great week Jennifer.

Jennifer, I really enjoy your videos and I admire you. Your way of thinking is so uncommon nowadays. Do you have any thoughts on connecting with like-minded women? I also wanted to add that your feelings on finding so many TV shows and movies to be too dark and depressing really resonated with me. I feel that once disturbing images enter your mind, they cannot be unseen. Some of the scenes I saw in movies and on TV even in my childhood still haunt me.

I have house clothes and outside the house clothes. If I wake up but don't need to go out straight away I put on my house clothes usually cotton shorts and cotton tshirt but depending on weather. Then if I need to go out even to the supermarket or post office I will change into my out of the house clothes usually jeans and top or a dress. Same as when I get home after a day out I change into my house clothes. This works for me.

I love the whole community that revolves around your channel. It's refreshing to find women of this caliber in the world today. I, too, watch little to no television. I simply don't have a lot of extra time with five children and especially an 18 month old and with what spare time I do have, I would much rather read. There isn't a lot offered to view on television that seems worth my time.

To the lady about the workout/housework clothing, if you're at home and you don't want to shower after you get sweaty, you can use baby powder and a powder puff to refresh in areas that get really sweaty (armpits and such). It will keep you dry and smell fresh.

Love your advice to wear a dress while cleaning or just at home. I have found that I wear dresses much more now since my job won't allow us to wear jeans anymore (except for Friday). Since dress pants seemed less flattering and more awkward to make outfits with, I find that dresses are much more carefree, comfortable and require less effort to get dressed in the morning. I also like wearing them on weekends now that it is warmer. They are cooler and some of my favorites have been from Walmart and Kohls, so budget friendly. Thanks for the videos and advice on how to have a better quality of life.

I admire your self-discipline, Jennifer. You are inspiring many. When I had little ones & lived in California it was dresses 24-7. Now, I think the key word is *presentable*. Would I mind having my photo taken in what I'm wearing? For housecleaning, I choose nice jeans or jeans skirt, and a washable, ironed blouse. (Yes to aprons and good grooming!) My outfit looks like casual workplace attire. I don't feel embarrassed if the UPS man comes to the door, and I'm able to get down on my knees to scrub things,

So true about the UPS man! Last week I got the kids off to school (my husband takes them), started a load of laundry, did the dishes, etc. but didn't have time to change before my first conference call and got caught up in work after that -- and then panicked when the doorbell rang... Thankfully our UPS man usually just rings the bell and was already back to his truck when I opened the door, but after that I promptly showered and got dressed!

Your videos are so delightful, I'm enjoying them so much. I am changing things up in my life this year, many of which you talk about, including trying to get the clutter out of my life and house. I want to get to a basic ten item wardrobe and have been getting rid of more clothes every year, this year I'm only keeping the outfits I really love. I find that if I decide to stay in my yoga pants in the morning then before I know it the day is gone and it's bedtime. I was raised that the first thing you do when you come home is change into your "grubbies" and do your chores so I've had to work on that mindset, but know I do feel more confident and accomplished when I'm dressed nicely, and even though I try not to judge I hate that where I live I see people out and about in their pajamas and slippers, yoga pants is even an upgrade. So I'm going for it and start wearing the aprons that I collect. Thank you for your thoughts, your voice is very kind and loving, I believe we need to all share our kindness with others now especially. Sherrilee😍

People are absolutely right about this shirt - it looks very good on you, and the print is so vibrant and happy. I recently went to Turin for a business trip and added a coral cardigan to my travel capsule, that was quite basic and boring. And that accent colour made all the difference in how happy and confident I felt.

I'm so glad I discovered you! Honestly, when you said you clean in dresses in one of your other videos, I was taken aback! I've only heard of that in households from the 50's (and I wasn't born until the 70's!). That being said, I appreciate your outlook on the subject. I am a stay-at-home mom and my daily wardrobe consists of shorts and t-shirt. While I don't see that changing, I am feeling that "maybe" I should at least wear some make-up - even on days I don't leave the house. I read a sample of your first book and was sad when it wouldn't let me read anymore... I guess I'm just going to HAVE to buy the book now! Thanks so much!!!

Hi Jennifer, I have not visited your videos for awhile due to life, work and such. I am happy to come back and happy to see your new baby boy :) I was critical of some of your topics and clothing, only out of frustration due to my exposure through my job which relate to social behaviour, social issues. That blouse choice you made that you also have on this video in a very nice change to your wardrobe. I love the more bland simple look, but I also make purchase very similar to your new blouse and I do purchase at Marshalls/Winners. The tip you suggested to the 1st question about sweating and outfits was excellent. I also like to create a uniform for cleaning my home and only wear it for that job duty and change out of it for the rest of my day. I don't mind a quick shower to rinse off any odor from cleaning detergent and any possible sweat and I enjoy using my body products, including a nice luxury products of using my favourite perfume shower gel, lotion and the perfume for layering and depending on the season. This is when I use my expensive body care line. So yes, I do have a bathroom full of different selections. Also, when cleaning, I put a velcro roller in my hair to help my hair have bigger volume and remove it when done. I think you are already familiar with Melissa video on the velcro roller and wrapping the rest of hair around it to have the appearance of a large hair bun and this is what I do so if I have unexpected visitor, it is not a big deal, because it doesn't show.

Living in England with the ten item wardrobe can be a nightmare. I put away my winter clothing last weekend and - wouldn't you know it - yesterday it snowed. Argh! Still, the advice about layering is great. 7 of my core 10 items this spring are dresses, which I can easily layer with tights or leggings as the weather dictates, and most can be worn over a snug t-shirt if it gets too cold. A mac is also a really great item to have in this climate, and medium weight scarves can really come in handy. Great vid as always, Jennifer!

You are so right about cutting out the TV. When you're raising kids, you seriously don't have the time. All we did when raising our kids was have a family movie night once a week on Friday or Saturday. You don't miss a thing. It also helps your kids to remain creative and not zone out on shows. They do the important things - learning and growing and executing their own ideas. Every time a young person does something remarkable lately, it turns out they stole the idea from Pinterest. Screen time is robbing us of original thought. So nice to see you taking a leadership role in this area. It is important work you are doing.

I only use mine for when I'm cooking. I also noticed your beautiful top. It looks very Natori. I like how your flowers also match your top. And, I like your Union Jack cup. I live in an area and have many friends who are Portuguese and Italian. Some how they have a way of always looking dressed up when they are not trying to look dressed up. They told me they only get dressed once for the whole day. They do all their activities in that same outfit. Take the kids to school, grocery shop, cook, clean without changing. I have a difficult time trying to do that. The ladies can wear a sweat shirt, leggings, runners and their hair in a ponytail and still manage to look gorgeous. Me - I would look like I was at home cleaning. Not sure how French women are but do you have any suggestions to always look good the whole day in any weather condition?

Excellent video as usual. I deleted my facebook account several months ago because it was a big waste of time. I like to read as well and challenge myself to a certain amount of read books per month to keep myself on track.

I'm so glad I found your channel because your videos really help me to work on myself. I wish I would have had a woman like you in my life growing up. I have a daughter now (two boys before her) and she has changed my life. I think about the things she will learn from me and I really want to teach her valuable things. I can definitely agree with the t.v. situation. I don't watch tv but I have a very difficult time keeping my boys from watching it more than it's recommended. With so many things to do around the house, how do you make time to spend with your children? I would love to do more activities with them, but with 3 children I find it difficult to do. Thank you in advance! Abigail Twin Cities, Minnesota

I'm retired and you can get in the rut of wearing older, boring clothes. I always wear nice clothes when I go out, even to get groceries, and now after watching your channel, I get dressed in "nice" clothes every day. With me....it is, if I don't wear the best clothes now, when will I wear them! Hahaha Besides, I feel better and happier looking good, and as someone else wrote, be able to go to the door for the UPS driver or unexpected guests presentable.😃

I work as a part time cleaning lady (to finance my studies) and cleaning is like a workout for me (scrubbing, vacuuming, doing the floors or climbing up and down to dust) .... but I also make an effort to look nice, clean and put together - I'm the cleaning lady after all! So my compromise is this: I wear nice black non-transparent workout capris. They allow movement and don't stick even if i perspire. Over that I wear chic tunics that go below the hips and cover the behind and have below-elbow sleeves. In summer, I combine this with nice sturdy flips-flops (and a nice pedicure!!), in winter I wear closed ballet flats. I feel confident and clean, but can move and don't feel too sweaty after I'm done working. tl; dr: tunics over intransparent capris and nice appropiate footwear are my solution to feel nice when cleaning.

Hi Jennifer, You have no idea how much your books and KZread Channel have inspired me. We recently moved to Cambridge, MA and I have a walk in closet that I share with my fiancé. I just love seeing my 10-item wardrobe in the closet without the bulk of clothes I wouldn't wear. I even bought IKEA linen storage boxes! As we are moving in bits and pieces I only had room for your second book when we came up north weeks ago. Yesterday I went and picked up the rest of my Madame Chic gift set and will post a pic on Instagram as soon as I get the desk tidy!

I like the idea of making priorities and sticking with them. Facebook is a tool to keep up with family I can't physically visit often. I haven't figured out how I want to dress yet but I am enjoying figuring that out. I like the company of the white noise television provides but except on an infrequent occasion I don't pick viewing fare I have to pay attention

Some of the best tv-series I have ever watched have dark themes. Like The Line of Beauty, which dealt with topics like aids and death (but also love). Or Brideshead Revisited, where the main characters best friend and obsessions becomes and alcoholic, suffering from the pressures of the world. Even shows like Mad Men, which I think is THE best show ever made, tackels a lot of dark themes, like death and denial. But I share your view on violence. It rarely adds anything to a story.

I can't imagine cleaning the bathroom floors, toilet and bathtub in my nice clothes. I get covered with cleaning agents, not to mention I have to get into the tub to clean the walls and everything. Also when cooking I tried wearing my nice clothes and putting on an apron but then oil splattered all over my sleeves and collar area. As much as I love wearing nice clothes at home and feeling good about myself, I keep ruining them if I wear them while cooking and cleaning. However I am intrigued with all of you can do it 😊👍🏼

I agree, as much as I love the idea of what Jennifer says, it is just not practical to really clean in a dress. Personally I cannot move as well, get on my knees, and things get ruined. I do think it's a matter of habit though. As much as I love dresses I also do not feel as comfortable in the evening just relaxing after the day still in my outdoor clothes. Maybe the whole point has more to do with working from home and not letting oneself go to not be bothered to dress properly? I am thinking about having some pretty yet comfortable home attire, but still need to change once I get back home.

Lilly K. Wilk I agree, if you're actually scrubbing toilets and tubs with cleansers that contain bleach, you're not going to do it in a silk dress!!!! Also if you garden. Thing is, you can find some cute looking dresses or jeans to do the dirty jobs--- and know they are "work" clothes. Just like exercise clothes, sometimes you need the right gear. If you're just tidying up, you can get away with an apron or even nothing special. Most cleaning is putting away clutter/kids toys/dishes etc. I cook in my normal clothes, but they're all washable easy care fabrics. If I have to go to the door, I'm not in torn PJs. I think Jennifer would agree that you don't need to be dressed up to be presentable. Her definition is more about looking tidy and in an outfit that flatters. It's not about being over-dressed. I live in California and dresses are the most comfortable and easy thing to wear in the heat🌸

Hi, Jennifer! I love the videos (the one with your children was adorable!) My question is about where your favorite places to find your items are. For example, I am looking for pretty stripe shirts and blouses like the ones you have. I am saving so I can buy nicer things, and would love to have a silk blouse--I've never had one! Where would you buy those items? Thank you so much!!

For the woman who gets sweaty while cleaning...I've discovered nice button-up quick-dry shirts from Royal Robbins and Eddie Bauer. They also have lightweight quick-dry pants like khakis; and skirts, that look quite tidy. Tilley Endurables is another good brand. Try "travel" clothing that's often very classy and chic looking but is easy-wash, wrinkle-free, often durable, and dries quickly. Quick dry clothing won't keep you from getting sweaty and wet but it'll help you dry off/recover quickly - plus it's stretchy so you'll FEEL like you're wearing yoga/exercise clothes but in reality you're wearing your "nice" things!

Your top is indeed lovely (I also love the other top you bought on the same trip) and I'm curious what you are wearing it with - your dark denim skirt, your jeans or your beige canvas skirt. Could you show us your full outfit at the start of each video as we only see your top half and, let's face it, I'm sure I'm not the only stickybeak ;). Great comment re housework in a dress being cooler than wearing yoga / exercise gear. I, too, loathe the epidemic of yoga pants all day. I am slim and in good shape yet don't feel the need to put everything on display. There is a time and place for Lycra pants - in the gym or on your run/walk, not in the supermarket or cafe or hairdresser or street. I am a regular swimmer of many years and I don't do my shopping / meet friends / go to appointments in my bathers (luckily for those around me !). If your time is so limited that you cannot possibly change your clothes - or maybe thee is nowhere safe or private to do so - at least throw on an over shirt or something, please. Alas, Jennifer, I think you are preaching to the converted here ha ha.
