I think you deserve some serious credit for the time you put into making your very helpful videos. (The editing, commentary, verbal notes, and thoroughness is all appreciated, and certainly shouldn't/doesn't go unnoticed) Thank you for all your videos!

It's just so tempting for people to start the bike and run it while lubing the chain, but oh so dangerous. I've done it myself. But after seeing that picture, I've never done it again.

Use kerosene instead, cheaper. Also clean your brake discs after cleaning chain, just in case any stuff got on it.

How often should we clean our chain thoroughly like that?

  • @ninja250motorcyclemaintena7

Whenever the chain gets really dirty and/or dry. This might be weekly or monthly, depending on how much you ride and the weather conditions. I suspect most people neglect their chains for months. This just means that the chain will not last as long.

Do you mean the spools? I don't remember, but I know they're super big. I could be wrong but I assume most spools are interchangeable with any bike. I got mine at Cycle Gear. I'm sure the manual will not say anything about that. I will measure for you when I get a chance, but I may have to do some research on how to measure the bolt, not as simple as it seems.

They came today and they fit nicely. M10 is correct size. I bought a Kawasaki Ninja 4 days ago and it had bolts just half-way screwed in looked like it could have just went into the sprocket. I had no clue with them bolts were for. I guess the guy before me had a stand. But of course the first thing I notice is bolts just sitting there loose smh....

I believe 250r is just another name for my bike. It's also called the EX250. There's a lot of different names for it. The special edition is called the JBFA and the normal edition (with no fancy decals) is called the JBF.

Ninja 250 Motorcycle Maintenance I think you're absolutely right since the front of my hand book says ex250. I was wondering, lately I get a heck of a lot of false neutrals, and possibly related but if I turn the engine off in gear, it's really difficult to get it in neutral. The only issue is the bike won't start until its in neutral. Do you know of there's a way to turn that safety feature off, because I've been stuck in traffic before unable to turn the bike on just because I couldn't get it into neutral!

  • @ninja250motorcyclemaintena7

The only reason that the bike wouldn't start in gear is if the kickstand were down or if the clutch were not pulled in. You don't have to put it in neutral. Just make sure that the kickstand is completely up and that the clutch is pulled in. It is a general rule that you should never start a bike unless the clutch is pulled in, even if the neutral light is on. False neutrals case in point.

Ninja 250 Motorcycle Maintenance thanks for the response, as it turned out the clutch / lock out switch wasn't working. Managed to get that cleaned up and I can now start with the clutch pulled in. You don't happen to have any videos describing how to fix the water temp sensor /gauge? Final question, I changed the dashboard flights from. Incandescent to leds and now the low fuel led is always dimly lit. Reckon that's the sensor in the tank?

On the United States 4th generation Ninja 250s there is no water temp gauge. There is a fuel gauge in its place. I don't do any mods on my bike. I prefer stock bikes, so I'm not sure about the LEDs.
