Claudia and David is a 1946 American comedy-drama film directed by Walter Lang. It stars Dorothy McGuire and Robert Young. Dorothy McGuire and Robert Young repeat their roles from the film Claudia (1943). Like its predecessor, Claudia and David was based on a series of short stories by Rose Franken, which also inspired a successful stage play and radio series. A third movie was planned but never made.
Claudia (Dorothy McGuire), still charmingly naive and a bit nervous, is struggling with the responsibilities of marriage and parenthood in their rural Connecticut town. Jealousy creeps into the relationship when Elizabeth (Mary Astor) starts consulting David on a building project, while Claudia is attracting the uninvited attentions of Phil (John Sutton), who happens to be married. There is a reason people like me are finding movies like this. Tonight I am just reaching back to simple times when marriage and family were common and revered, and marriages were reinforced by society (with all that that brought in) I love these old films that were simple plots and meaningful feelings. Today we have such division and estranged families. I just enjoy the "working through" of simple misunderstandings - without the drama of our times.

    Thank you for sharing your wonderful Gems ! Rare and amazing,how I love the way things were back in the elder days , a women acted like one ,a man asked as one , the times were to be good and proper , every e attended church on Sundays ,Sunday was for family ,everything was closed ! To give families TOGETHER time , there wasn’t that much sin then , people new their neighbours ,people helped everyone, doctor’s visits your home , the preach comes for supper ever second month , their was more respect , children were raised very well, They prayed the Lord’s Prayer e every morning in the schools ,as soon as that was stopped by a terrible atheist , it was like the devil was released ! I enjoy watching these Gems take me away to a different time and place ,also takes me away from this dark world we live in now ! Thank you For sharing God Bless you and your family! Fr.Canada ❤️🙏🇨🇦

    "No matter what influences come into our lives nothing can hurt our marriage if it's strong and clean at the core." A sentiment that is rarely seen in today's movies.

    Having grown up watching 'Father Knows Best' in the Fifties, I was amazed, many years later, to discover the wonderful films that Robert Young had made before he became the wise, loving TV dad Jim Anderson. He was quite versatile as a leading man, and always quite watchable.

    I love him ❤ he made over 90 films between 1931 and 1954, plus the TV shows. H.M. Pulham Esq. and The Enchanted Cottage are my favorites with him, but there are so many great and underrated movies in his filmography... 😊

    Thank you for posting this movie. I'm surprised I watched it because I couldn't stand their movie about the enchanted home, I can't remember the name. Dorothy McGuire can act. It's really more like a play, which I appreciate, and it has a lot of real life interpersonal feelings and situations. I pray people return to the days of so many friends and family in their lives. We aren't meant to isolate, it's like we stop evolving and become too selfish. Anyway a surprise and a pleasant one. Thanks. (I don't think I would ever pass up watching Mary Astor in anything.)

    45:41 What's about to happen here Claudia has brought on herself by allowing this woman's husband to spend "alone time" with her, buy her flowers..... He's a married man and she's a married woman and neither of them should be putting themselves in situations like that. He shouldn't be sending her flowers and she shouldn't be accepting them. Edit: Okay, after this "woman to woman" talk these two have, Claudia and Phil need to severely limit their contact with each other and be on their guard not to even do anything that gives the perception of having any contact. They both owe it to their spouses. Edit: 50:10 Boy oh boy, this marriage is really "F'd" up and dysfunctional. What in the world is he thinking coming home so late under the current situation with his wife? They're both acting like children playing with a loaded firearm and have no idea how dangerous the thing is or the consequences of their actions if they get it wrong. They need to sit down, do some serious talking, maybe even get some professional help if it was available back then, and straiten this marriage out.... NOW!

  • @im1who84u
    @im1who84u Жыл бұрын

    35:57 I am going to guess these flowers are NOT from her husband. If so, then the guy that sent them is being disrespectful to her husband and she should send them back or reject them.

    David was a charming jerk. Phil should have left his wife for Claudia and Claudia divorce David. David left his sick son on his birthday to do what he wanted. Totally selfish. Was very flippant and insulting to her. And controlling. Claudia was worried about her child and he blew her concerns off. Then yelled at her for her innocent actions. Boy, he'd have been gone.
