I am addicted to these black & white movies, my grandmother, born in 1902 had my mother at the age of 40 years old, so she was in her 60’s when I came along. She loved these old movies along with Perry Mason and the like. I lost her in 1988 and nothing has really been right since. These movies give me a bit of melancholy as I think of my beloved grandma. 👵🏻

I watched the 1960-1970s Tv soap opera Dark Shadows as a teen every single day with the incomparable Joan Bennett. Even though she was an older lady I knew she was somebody special and fell in love with her then. My Mother always told me that she was a Movie star from the past and had a sister who was ALSO an actress. Of course, she found new fame on the TV soap and a new generation of admirers. She was such a beauty and a class act.

George E. Stone (born Gerschon Lichtenstein; May 18, 1903 - May 26, 1967) was a Polish-born American character actor in films, radio, and television. This man was one of the best actors of all time and so little recognized for his work. This is probably his greatest role.

This film was re-released in 1946. By that time Victor Mature had become a “known” actor. His billing (listing) went from 7th to co-starring with Joan Bennett, even though his role was a secondary one. According to IMDb.

Easily one of the top ten screwball, or otherwise, comedies of the era. A bit part so well played by the virtually unknown Victor Mature vaulted him into prominence. Adolph Menjou was never better. But the ticking time bomb was tossed by Joan Bennett, who just redined the sultry seductrice. This is a keeper, and i had never heard about it.

Joan Bennett was a natural blonde. She was persuaded to change her hair color to brunette to take on the role of the 1937 movie, Trade Winds. That change lead to more acting roles and greater celebrity. In my opinion, in this movie, she favors the actress, Hedy Lamarr. A bit of trivia - Joan's second husband, Gene Markey, went on to wed Hedy Lamarr after divorcing Joan.

Her ypung Dark Shadows co-stars had such beautiful things to say about her as a fellow actor and as a human being. Generous, loving, thoughtful and the love and admiration they had for her was obvious in their words and faces. She adored them right back! We hear such awful stories about some of these big stars. Not Joan Bennett. They loved her fiercely.

Delightful farce comedy. Rather crazy mixture of Genres and perhaps a slight rip-off of The Front Page, His Girl Friday and Bringing Up Baby. I dont generally think of Joan Bennett as a comedian, but she's great at playing it "straight" rather than "madcap". John Hubbard is trying to play Cary Grant. Interesting to see Broadway star Peggy Wood in a precursor to her great role as "Mama" in I Remember Mama" on Broadway and Television.

I disagree with all your comparisons. Even as fictional farce the behavior of the reporter and photographer is despicable, and, even in a farcical fiction, these two guys would be off the newspaper faster than you can say, "hat". in all the films you reference, everyone played their job straight. I also do not see Hubbard as trying to mimic Cary Grant. Interesting what utterly different perspectives one can have on movies - and newspapers. (My father, who was a newspaper photographer in that era, always warned, "Never trust a reporter). I also object to the daughter becoming a "moll." Not with that mother, and given that we're not given a reason why she went to the dark side. It's very peculiar I'm sure it will all work out, but it's rough going.
