it's amazing how much quality work Mozart managed to write and perform in his short life, a vast body of work.

Excellent ! Thanks Stuart. I'm yet to connect with the Concerto's - still into the piano sonatas (Bach as well as Mozart)..but followed this intently ..taking notes for future reference

Oh, the "Giant Piano Sound". Yes, I'm quite familiar with that sound. RCA made some wonderful stereo recordings in the 50's but they tended to suffer from this recording style. It's definitely distracting to me; the music can be wonderful but that huge piano, speaker to speaker, matching the soundstage of the orchestra, is jarring.

The Yudina / Stalin story has good chance to be apocryphal (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Yudina). Anyway, true or invented, it's a good story, funnily reenacted in the movie The Death of Stalin (2017).

Thanks. Yes I agree. I was commenting on the story as I have heard it not claiming it is actually true. It shows the Chinese whispers at work as this story reached the ears of my son's violin teacher and the composer was then Beethoven not Mozart. The Yudina recording of K488 is remarkable all the same, she was a great pianist.
