Thank you for defining a collector. I must be a failed collector because there are gaps which I am content to remain in my collection! Long ago I saw an article in the hi fi press about the best recorded labels to buy. I was using Townshend Glastonbury II loudspeakers and wanted the best sound for vinyl replay. The article cited your referred ASD, BUT, only with the early semi circular dog and gramophone image; Decca, BUT without laminated sleeves, A&M were good too. From experience I bought Meridian, Proprius and Altarus, but not exhaustively. The fun is wondering what might turn up in the charity shops; and there have been wonderful finds, stuff that's never been played! It is all about the journey. Happy collecting

It is not easy to define what makes one a collector and I just wanted to make some suggestions in this video but you can define yourself how you want within certain limits. I rarely find a record where I think the sound quality is so bad it is not worth listening to the music - as long as the condition is ok everything seems to play well enough but obviously some labels are better than others.

as a collector the music is the thing of course but i tend to gravitate towards Symphonies, Ballets, orchestral suites and overtures, violin and piano concertos in the main, rarely string quartets and no full operas. I have favourite labels, Composers, Orchestras, Conductors and solo artists i look out for as a collector but not a completist, finding a great performance on an obscure label is a good find, and finding an album with very good sound quality is also a bonus, always stereo never mono for classical music, trouble is all my favourite holy grails are expensive! A set of Mravinski Tchaikovsky symphonies 4, 5 and 6 on DG Tulips would be a nice addition to my collection , i have the box set but would be nice to have the three on Tulip, i find the sound quality on these quite clear, lively with hardly any crackles or faults, usually very rewarding if you can find mint copies. Decca wide band are amazing quality as is well known if you can get past the awful cover art many of them have!

Hi. I get a bit twitchy if I don't have a full set of a series. I have to think long and hard whether to pick up a record titled Vol. 3 or such. I've got news for you, there seems to be far more than 9 records in that Donauphon series. Looking at Discogs I can see they have 18 listed, and I can also see they don't have some of the covers shown on your record. Do, there are probably at least 20. Cheers

I have around 500 classical LPs, (plus about 100 jazz) but as yet I don’t think of myself as a collector…I need to gain more knowledge about what I have, what is available and why should I have it. At present, the nearest I am to a collector is having and looking for vinyl and CD’s of different artists performing Bach cello suites (and preferably vinyl, of course!)

They must have been a bit spoilt for choice when they got to doing the tracklisting for the Vienna album of that Austrian series.

If the music really is first and foremost, what about all the superlative music available on CD and CD only? Yes -- I'm talking "non-standard repertoire".

that's fine. If a new Mozart symphony is found and only sold on CD - I will be first in line.
