I remembered from music appreciation class that Wagner and Liszt were connected by marriage. Figured it was one of them. I guessed Wagner.

I also guessed Wagner. On the right path, but went the wrong way.

I saw your response before the video played so I can’t take any credit, lol! I wouldn’t have guessed correctly anyway, although I watched a movie about his life starring Cornel Wilde, I think. 😊😊

Wagner composed the opera (that was in the question). Interestingly, Cosima (the daughter of Liszt) was first married to Hans von Bulow, a renowned conductor and champion of Wagner's music and philosophy. He loved Wagner so much that when Wagner had the affair with Cosima, von Bulow was flattered and enthusiastically agreed to divorce her without conditions so she could marry Wagner. It was a strange time in Europe and the arts.

That was a hard Final Jeopardy! clue and I took time to get that right.

Ooof none of the responses were even ALIVE in 1850. This was more a music history question than a Classical music question.

Tough FJ. I knew the in-law was Wagner. I forgot the connection… tough. With it being “a future in-law of the composer” is a very tight, clever way to word that clue. Ed made the right strategic wager to cover third, unless the leader had the right answer.

I had to make an educated guess and a strategic wager. Brain busting FJ for sure!

So damn easy!!!!! I knew it immediately! Wagner married Liszt’s daughter, Cosima, who had previously been married to conductor and pedagogue Hans Von Bulow…

I only knew this b/c of the Ken Russell movie Lizstomania (it's awful; not recommended).

Pianist directing an opera? That's really hard - if you didn't know it, you couldn't guess it. I knew the Wagner part - my guess was Mendelson- just guesing a German from that era.

After all, you've heard the Hungarian Rhapsody Number 2, one of the most famous pieces for piano and orchestra, haven't you?

Three very smart people come up with an 18th century composer, a 20th century conductor and a 20th century composer/pianist for an opera which premiered in 1850. Clueless or worse about classical music. But I bet they know the date Utah was admitted to the Union. Mathematical minds.

it is in the broad umbrella category of "classical" music which is a term used irregardless of era in this context and in broader use.

So pathetic. The "returning champ" that knocked out Ben couldn't even secure a real win. Proves she's a one-hit wonder. Only won because Ben over-bet and misspelled by a letter.

One of the most boring jeopardy ever! And why do they make Mayem look like such a dowdy person. She is so beautiful . She needs a new wardrobe and hairdo!
