Yep my dad was at this. He was on the USS Achomawi a seagoing tug in 1946. They were the ones that placed all the ships into position. A weird story he talked about was after this bomb went off the captain immediately stared steaming back into the zone. My dad died of cancer in 1994. Probably from that test.

@@corenko No case or evidence has been found that DU causes/caused cancer. Wasn't the DU that gave him it. Breathing carcinogenic vapors.. many many chemicals.. asbestos... on the other hand can and do give people cancer.

I watched it at 2x speed and it looked normal, but the speed seems variable in any case, going from regular speed to slower speed and back again.

Fun fact: the explosion you are watching was the same one used at the end of the spongebob episode: "Dying for pie"

Slowed down even further, at 8s in you can see the bomb flickering 2 times. Are these the explosions needed for fission?

What you witnessed is the double flash that fission bombs are known for. They dont exactly know what this is but they believe its a form of ionizing radiation thats moving faster than regular light in an atmosphere. Many nuclear bomb survivors remember that double flash

This was the era of magazines Time , Look and several other very popular magazines . It was THIS Baker test stills and videos that caused every ones jaw to drop because it really showed the power unleashed launching a battle ship up the water column! No other photos garnered so much attention than this shallow water burst ! It still remains the most iconic picture of a Nuclear explosion .still the most popular ! They had a 3rd one to test but there was so much radiation released from this blast that they decided not to do it

Excellent video quality! Nukes are not useful if used against large groups of armed ships. The best weapon against them is the "Thermonuclear Laser Blasting Cannon". It is already installed on 45 ultrasonic combat jets. For security reasons I cannot reveal their exact location. All I can say is they were not developed for NATO.
