CLASSIC TV COMMERCIALS - Alka-Seltzer 1958 - w/Buster Keaton and Dick Beals

Ойын-сауық

Relief Is Just A Swallow Away! Yeah, tell that to your girlfriend...
Six 1958 Alka-Seltzer filmed TV commercials featuring silent film star Buster Keaton in these upset stomach classics! Get that barf bag handy, as Speedy (Dick Beals) sings the first Alka-Seltzer jingle - accompanied by cool late-50's stylized animation mixed with the live action during the transitions. Plop Plop Fizz Fizz would be a decade away...
The first 'episode' features a vocal 'Sad Trombone' "Walk, walk, walk!"...
Dick Beals voice may sound familiar as "Ralph Hansen" in the Looney Tunes' Chuck Jones-directed "From A - to - Z-z-z-z"... He was also "Davey Hansen" in the Art Clokey produced "Davey and Goliath" for the Methodists and shown throughout the 60's through the 80's...

Buster Keaton, fizzy relief and a jingle that won't leave your head. Perfect actually. Relief is just a swallow away. Except where do I get relief from the jingle in my head?

15 years ago, my friend put this video on repeat as I was black out drunk on the couch. To this day, I still hear the song whenever I come home and need an Alma Seltzer BEFORE I go to bed

4:20 - This one's my favorite with the hip 'other' arrangements... love the 'Elvis' jukebox version of the jingle.

Dick Beals starred in a few Suspense Radio episodes, most notably The Incredible Shrinking man aka "Return to Dust" it's on my channel, in my sci-fi playlist, if you're interested.

Not to those of us who lived through it! Look at a picture of Mamie Eisenhower's short bangs: that should change your mind. No wonder we elected Jackie Kennedy's husband in 1960--now SHE was chic!

Little Speedy sounds like Timmy on the Lassie show, esp when he says the name, Alka-Seltzer!

Dick Beals and Walter Tetley both had the same glandular condition that prevented them from entering puberty. They kept playing children's roles on radio shows, commercials, and cartoons, well into middle-age. But they couldn't play child roles onscreen, because their wrinkled, but childlike, faces looked too strange.

I think that glandular condition is called Peter Pan Syndrome.

You can tell their voices apart because Tetley was from New York and Beals from Detroit.
