Ok, thats an amazing idea. Probably the coolest woodworking idea I have seen for a long time, if maybe ever.

I never would have imagined such a planer, but that is pretty cool.
There's router planes, then there's plane routers. Totally gonna steal this idea, thanks!
Wow this is amazing! Appreciate that you combined two common tool together to make yet another amazing tool.

This idea seemed so obvious when I saw it, I slapped myself for not thinking of it. Brilliant. Your craftsmanship is top notch.
Hand-plane shavings are WAY easier to deal with than all that sawdust!!

@@MyFatherLoves Based on the video demos, the router takes a LOT longer than the hand plane. Especially when flattening the face of the board.
@DKWalser
4 ай бұрын
@@evanvandyke9819 I don't think that's a fair assessment, unless you're talking about an electric hand plane. That board had a fairly large crown and a lot of wood needed to be removed to flatten it. An electric router can easily take a heavier cut than virtually any of us can take with a hand plane. The router bit is about 2-1/4" in diameter, which means it takes a wider cut than a standard width bench plane (2") and a slightly narrower width than a #5-1/2 bench plane (2-3/8"). Since the router can take away more wood with each pass (heavier/deeper cut), and each pass is as wide, or wider, than a bench plane; this contraption should be much faster at flattening boards. I expect the bench plane will leave a nicer surface, and it will be more enjoyable to use, but it won't be faster.
First actually useful 'new' jig I've seen in years, well done!
That's is the best idea I have seen that last decade!
Awesome idea for taking the jointer to the material!
That is the coolest plane I ever saw.

Are people not satisfied to watch and enjoy video that is essentially presented to them for free. What he has done is fun and imaginative. I suspect he has a technique for using it in a way that is beneficial. It does not take much to be a negative Nelly and critique everything that comes along. I know it makes people who do feel like giants in their expertise. The reality is they are little people who cannot seem to enjoy life.
As a person learning so i can afford upgrades to my home. This is fabulous. Im guessing bc as im looking at tools i need to get started. Planners are way more than I can afford so im watching this carefully!!!! Thank You!!! And now a new subscriber + 👍🏾/share....for this alone. Looking forward to more of your videos 🫡🎉
It’s amazing what you can do with a good jig 😊l have always been a favour of jigs and made a few in my time 😊
Excellent idea and I do have a Dewalt. I'm swamped with projects right now, but I'll be saving this video and will make one of these for myself.. thank you..
you know how long its been since ive seen a woodworking tool hack that havent seen and is a good idea!! im actually going to build me one of these this weekend!! maybe even convince myself to get a dedicated router for it as well! ty sir!!
What a great idea going to have to try this. Thanks for sharing
You are truly talented, just WOW.
It's amazing ! I've never seen such idea before! 👍👍👍 Thank you! 🤝
Undoubtedly, definitely, that’s the tool of the century. Full credit to the tool operator. Thanks.
Like a fly cutter for wood. Genius.
sadly you don't get the satisfaction of a NICE LONG CHIP. But also you don't get the fight of a lifetime when you find a knot xD
really awesome, never saw this before and it is top tier

That router bit will set you back at least the price of a powered planer, unless you opt for a lower quality bit, which is known to cost you more when you'll have to replace it more often. The time and materials spent to make this abomination will also be forever lost. Buy a planer and a $50 random orbit sander, they will be a lot cheaper to run in the long run, they will do their job as designed, and not to mention you won't have to come up with awkward explanations when anyone asks what's up with that weird tool.
Well done!!! Thanks so much for the idea! Best, Stu
Привет. Крутая идея. Мне очень понравилась. Можно сделать крепление на шарнире. Ну ты понял, увеличил наклон и выборка идет полукругом. Тогда будет работать как шерхебель. Если нужен Большой съем материала
excellent craftsmanship - this is the best woodworking video i've seen in quite some time - very well thought out !
Duuuudee.. this is absolutely ingenious!
Dewalt, Makita, Ryobi....all of you toolmakers, this guy is on to something awesome.

This is fantastic--thank you.

So a planer that produces saw dust instead of shavings. IT COULD BE USEFUL FOR SOME STUFF! And i love how you are finding a new use for an existing tool. My only complaint is...saw dust.
I have some huge routers and assorted bits, ill have to make the 3D pantograph copier ive always wanted to make! I'd forgotten, but this sparked the idea again!

FANTASTIC!
Wonderful idea!!
I'm gonna make one of these with an m18 router. LOVE this. This old fart loves my Nielsen jointer plane, and the "lovely" thin strips it makes, but it takes a quick toll on your body!!! Already drew it / planed it out and put the bits and router in my Amazon cart!
This is too funny. I just thought of this last week when doom scrolling videos and wondered if anyone had ever done it. Well done!

I'll be honest this is one of more creative ideas I've seen. I'm surprised how well it works. However, the biggest advantage of using normal plane is the surface quality it leaves. If you use plane, the wood will last much longer.
Genius design!
Brilliant!! When you start mass producing these jigs and selling then online, please share the link. I'll likely buy both jigs for my miniscule woodwork adventures. 🥰 I would try to make one myself, but I do not have a shop of proper equipment like you. Yes... I envy your shop and others like it. Seriously, thank you for sharing this. I am sure many people will take this idea with them into their woodworking travels.

It's a great idea but with a couple of hand planes and a little time invested in learning to hone blades, the same can be achieved with old technology that doesn't create masses of dust and noise and actually gives a far smoother finish. I guess it's a good replacement for a power jointer and thicknesser if one only has a small shop.
Excelente idea 👍

Endlich mal was Neues! Finally something new!
Very interesting idea. I like the way you incorporated a dust control channel from slightly behind the router bit to the front of the plane base. I don’t understand the need for the rear channel? Doesn’t the rear recess area cause an instability in some situations? I wonder if the rear recess is needed, and if it is, maybe a cross hatch pattern might be an improvement?
great idea, I can see only a small edge of the router bit being used and worn though.
Very nice tool. 👍💪✌

Do you know the Metabo Paint Remover LF 724 S? There are several videos here about it. It works similarly but it is held only from one side so that the routing gets closer to edges. But it can be adjusted to 0,01 mm because it has a metal block as a casing. I am reminded of this thing because I thought how someone could build a similar thing with a small router.
