I respect the fuck out of this man Ron Simmons. For one he’s one of the most realist. Baddest motherfuckers. To ever grace a Professional Wrestling ring. Two I respect his struggles as a Black man. In a tough cut throat. Business that hasn’t been to friendly. To our brothers of color. Three you can just tell Ron is a man’s man. He’s trying his hardest to not play a victim of racism. You can tell he would rather remember the good memories. In a good ole boys club like NWA/WCW. It’s almost as if he hates to even bring light to it. I respect that so much. Ron should have most definitely been a WWE Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion at some point. It has been said Ron didn’t even really lift weights. He could walk into any gym. Any setting where they have possession of a bench barbell and weights. Walk in cold off the street. And throw up like 600lbs. That is such insane raw powerful strength.

Buries Watts, the man who made the decision to put Ron at the top -- which he speaks so glowingly about -- just like he did with other black wrestlers as well as give more black wrestlers an opportunity than any other territory owner and then he goes on to praise Michael Hayes as a "great man". Amazing.

Watts was always trying to recreate what Jyd accomplished in his territory but he couldn't... so maybe watts didn't understand why he was really over. I think he just did it hoping it would hit again because he was out of good ideas honestly

Great interview. But if Ron would have gone to vince in 89 he wouldn't have done anything but be another stereotype in the circus. No world championship, maybe a tag team championship but not the impact he had in Crockett and WCW. It was no paradise in vinceland either, Bad News Allan was there in 89 and spoke about racism there. Stories of racism were there when Ron was there. It's OK to tell the truth Ron, you're still a legend.

Ron Simmons doesn’t really have that storied a career . He was consistently good enough to be booked but thats all . He never ascended as a babyface despite being pushed to a WCW championship and as a heel he got derailed by The Rock ( which was a disappointment to me because I wanted to see how he would develop as a top heel . The WWF didn’t see him in that light apparently ) . Great athlete , adequate wrestler . No disrespect , I just do not see him as a great .
