Thank you Chef Barr for a wonderful (and timely) recipe with fall/winter in the air. This reads to me as a first cousin of jerk chicken so I am down with everything. I love your method of piercing the Scotch bonnet even though I would happily dice it up. Truly an outstanding recipe that everywhere on this planet can tweak to make it their own without losing the spirit and history of this dish. Appreciate you and #Munchies for taking the time to share this with all of us.

Definitely not Jamaican. No fresh seasonings except for garlic and onion
I'm preparing this today for the 2nd time, it is so f'ing good. It probably won't be my last time either
Taking time out to do things right, know you’re interested that’s what I see what doing going step by step,so that ,keep everything, you can understand who keep the flavor color,so you can have a delicious meal.
Jamaican Curry with an Indian twist. It's nice to see the mix of cultures/flavours. 😋
Not Jamaican.
i aint see skelion, thyme or boil dumplin ,this isnt jamaican ,the thyme is a key as for the pepper u usually leave it uncut and we also boil the potato with the chicken to give the curry that thickness, as for cashew you wont get that in a jamaican curry, and if you are going to say classic curry there is no coconut milk either .good attempted tho

She's black American, I suspect. She has no clue what Jamaican curry is. We use lots of fresh seasonings.
Yummy MMM
My grandma taught me the best way, grace brand curry powder
Can I do this with whole skinless breast and thighs, I'm not a fan of skin if it's not crispy?
Wouldn’t say Jamaican curry we don’t use coconut milk and everything added at the end. Inspired maybe…
Ha! I was going to respond to comments. I’ll agree that this is not a classic Jamaican curry, but I’d fault the editors at Vice, NOT the chef represented here. I’d say most Jamaicans, including those in Jamaican restaurants are NOT toasting and grinding their own spices. But keep up the troll comments so the YT algorithm shows the video to more people, and hopefully helps Suzanne sell more books. I just bought one! If Munchies does decide to update the title, they’ll probably want to correct the misspelling in Suzanne’s name (two N’s)

This was all types of weird to me
Not classic Jamaican curry chicken
As an Indian I am not eating any type of curry if the onion is not caramelised first. Marinating the chicken with raw onions doesn't serve any purpose. Also fry the potatoes or add them directly in small cubes rather than boiling them. Add you spice powder in oil on low flame for much deeper colour. Add water if your pot is too hot. Braise your meat in high heat and cover it.The water released serves as stock and you will never have to add water. Add water if the the food is sticking at tbe bottom. Also if the pieces are large or if you are in a hurry add hot boiling water. The cooking time will reduce drastically and the meat will be cooked to the bone. Chutney or any other sauce should be served as a side or else all your hardwork is ruined by mixing it with the curry.
trini flavor too... coconut milk that's really really caribbean curry well done

Lol wtf u do at the end cashews and chutney on top? Oh nah plz no
This was not a classic Jamaican curry chicken recipe at all. I've never seen anyone boil potatoes and then add it to the curry chicken. The potato's are added directly to the pot after 30 mins of cooking the chicken. We also don't use Indian spices or roast any spices or add coconut flakes, cilantro or chutney to curry chicken.. It looks good but not a classic recipe
It was going good until the coconut shavings and cashews.
Nice..curry chicken..not chicken curry..the West Indies way..🇹🇹

She's obviously not Jamaican. No thyme, no scallions, no scotch bonnet pepper. Only garlic and onion. No all purpose seasoning. Jamaicans don't use "chicken stock"
“Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up. And if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. And you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere. We’ve got to get the children connected to their parents”
Not a traditional Jamaican curry. Cashew nuts lol.

Chicken is a god and the best truth. Trust chicken, worship, respect, don't doubt, delicious doesn't change. Chicken makes the world enjoyable and takes responsibility for the enjoyment of people's taste. There is a c between b and d. There is chicken between birth and death and we stand at the crossroads of many choices as we live in the world. It can be fried or seasoned or boneless chicken. That's why chicken is important, truthful, sour, and true.

Y'all Guyanese and Trinidadians swear Jamaicans don't have any Indian heritage and we definitely do. Y'all just mad because we have more to offer than just Indian culture. Go do some research before you make ignorant statements like that. Jamaican curry chicken has always been a staple for US.
@pearliesimpson4310

We have Indian heritage in Jamaica. That's where the term "ganja" derived. During the late 1700 to early 1800, the British brought over 40k Indians to the island to work as indentured sevants on the plantations. They brought their culture which includes curry goat, curry chicken, east Indian mangoes, etc. Hence, curry chicken is indeed a staple of Jamaica.

You're SO ignorant and have no knowledge of Jamaican culture if you don't think curry was introduced to us the EXACT same way it was introduced to Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago. You see the title says JAMAICAN right? Our whole culture is not Indian, but it's a significant enough part of it and JAMAICAN INDIANS have developed our OWN way to make it. You mad? Just stick to your spiceless curry from wherever you come from.

all ill say is jamaica motto goes 'out of many one ppl' and we do infact have a curry native to jamaican our curry taste different from every other curry in the world u will never find it in india trust me ppl have tried ,look it up . as for trini and guyanese curry it taste closer to that found in india . im sure you would say thai green or red curry is indian or even japanese curry ,while the idea is infact indian there have been many children birthed out of the indian curry and they are all different .

I came across your video, love you, love your video, and will go to your restaurant if you were close enough. I also saved this video as someone who loves to cook traditional cuisines. So let's stop with the nonsense, the people that push for "diversity" try to gain political points - diversity is here for hundreds of years and thank God for that.
