Classic Game Room - PANASONIC 3DO console review model FZ-1

Ойын-сауық

Panasonic 3DO review. Classic Game Room reviews the PANASONIC 3DO video game console model FZ-1 released in 1993. The Panasonic 3DO has an awesome library of video games like Road Rash, Myst and Novastorm but unfortunately was released with a $700 price tag in the early 90's, yikes! Failure in the marketplace followed but the awesome games still arrived on the Panasonic 3DO. Panasonic 3DO video review features Panasonic 3DO model FZ-1 (as well as comparison shot vs. model FZ-10). Prone to breakage and difficult to repair, the Panasonic 3DO is for serious collectors looking to relive the early 90's in style with some awesome games.

I got so lucky with this, I recently picked up an FZ-1 (minus controller) for 8 dollars at a thrift store. My guess would be that they thought it was a CD player or something, and so it was priced waaaaaaaay under its actual value. I bought a controller for 10 bucks off ebay, and when I turned on the console, it had a copy of V.R. Stalker in the tray! The system works, and so does the game, so all told, I started my 3DO collection for under 20 bucks!

I never owned one of the actual consoles, but I did pickup a 3DO Blaster back in the day. It was a more affordable alternative for PC gamers. I was convinced at the time that all future video game consoles would have add-on boards for PC gamers; boy was I wrong ;) Times have changed though, now if you want to pick up a 3DO Blaster because of its rarity, it is more expensive than a used 3DO :P

The difference between the Panasonic and Goldstar was noticed when you open and close the draws. The goldstar open and closed a lot faster and booted up the game faster. The Panasonic 3DOs draw moves like it was too chilled out. My 3DO I own was the 3DO I brought from Day one. For its time it was a great machine as I moved over from mega CD, and the video scenes were greatly improved, people should not compare it to any modern consoles, because this machine was the best at its time. My favourite games are, twisted Gameshow, Road Rash, Horde, Demolition Man, Myst, Theme park, space hulk, and many more.

Its a cool piece of tech for its era. I got one a few years back via Craigslist..think I paid about 60 bucks for an FZ10 with 1st and 2nd gen controllers, and about 25 games. Need for Speed and Road Rash are fantastic on this system. Also of note is the lack of copy protection ;)

I recall watching this review a few years back. Anyway, I think the 3DO was way ahead of its time. It had so much potential, but the industry was just not ready for it. Also the initial price drove buyers away. However, prices did go down tremendously in 1994. It's a shame it was considered a failure though.

Mostly due to the way it was advertised and marketed, they called the Genesis and super Nintendo, 2 of the best consoles of all time, baby toys, and the cost was wayyyy out there for most gamers, so they thought, where keeping our toys, thank you and to be 100% honest I kinda Aggree. The one thing I LOVED about the 3DO and wished current companys would do is the headphone jak in the controller. You could play your games as loud as you wanted to, no matter how late it was, and with the headset plugged in you wouldn't keep anyone up. I must have been really REALLY lucky to find my FIRST, used, and working 3DO at a Goodwill store.

I'm actually impressed with this console. The disc tray doesn't seem like something that would be on a system that old, along with the headphone jack in the controller, and the fact that you only need to plug a second controller into the player 1 controller for multiplayer is a great idea! Just wish I could have seen some gameplay though.

If you're having troubles with the Panasonic 3DO, you should try the Goldstar 3DO. I have owned three of them and they all worked! Also try Star Control II for the 3DO, it's A LOT OF FUN.

I was lucky enough to get a floor model FZ1 from the GoodGuys for $50 back in 95. Still works to this day. Super Street Fighter is all I really play on it. Hey Mark, you should find a CLD-A100 laseractive and review that. Talk about expensive!!!

Awesome vid! It's really too bad you got some non working units. That is actually highly unusual. While the Goldstar units are well known to have poorer construction, the Panasonic model(s) is built like a tank. I've owned several over the years, and they still work perfectly nearly 20 years later. In fact, I'd say 3DO is one of the most reliable consoles ever. I doubt most people would have a hard time finding a great. working unit. They are simply too well built.

Mark, you should find the game "Icebreaker" for the 3DO. It was also released on the PC, but was originally released on the 3DO. It was one of my favorite games growing up.

I played my 3DO for years and never had an issue. The headphone jack in the controller was a great idea. Only downside was the loading time... it was insanely long

I Remember Playing The Panasonic 3DO A Few Times On Display When It Came Out. I've Played Crash N Burn. Road Rash. Need For Speed. And I Think I've Also Played Escape From Monster Manor. But Now If I'm Not Mistaking Didn't The Panasonic 3DO Also Have Games Like Assassin's Creed 4: White Flag. Call Of Duty 4: Retro Warfare. Call Of Duty: White Ops. And Call Of Duty: Ghouls?

Funny that I only just bought a 3DO a little while ago and this video comes up. I think my favourite feature about the 3DO is that it uses normal video and audio out connectors... and S-video comes standard!
