Classic Game Room - JIM POWER: THE LOST DIMENSION IN 3D review for Super Nintendo

Ойын-сауық

Jim Power: The Lost Dimension in 3-D review! classicgameroom.com/vaultpages... e-lost-dimension-in-3d-super-nintendo/
Classic Game Room reviews JIM POWER: THE LOST DIMENSION in 3D for SNES from 1993! Jim Power travels through time and space to platform, explore, space ship battle and die in this mashup of every game genre from 1993 at once! Wild colors, bizarre level designs and insane difficulty overshadow what is an ambitious game with some great music.

    ***** Maybe a reboot, so they could do the whole series like they'd originally planned? Imagine it as a web series! Josh Duhamel as Buckaroo Banzai, Jeff Goldblum having a cameo as his dad, and Mark making a guest appearance as one of the aliens! I think a game would be best though. A Master System-styled mixed genre platformer-space shooter, like this game only, you know, fun looking, filled with pixellated John Lithgows and badly digitized jamaican accents.

    The game was originally designed to be played with a pair of (polarized?) 3d glasses which came with the cart, hence the "in 3D" bit. Even if they had been smart enough to disable the utterly nauseating scrolling effect for non-3D play, that'd be only one of it's many, many problems dealt with.

    You can actually use a pair of sunglasses and just tilt them to one side and effectively get the same results with the 3-D in this game. Try it out. It's actually sort of impressive when it isn't making me want to puke lol

    That game came with 3D glasses which is why the background scrolls in the opposite direction: it creates the 3D effect when you are wearing the glasses. You can make your own, just get some cheap dollar store sunglasses and punch out one of the lens.

  • @Newtonip

    @Newtonip

    9 жыл бұрын

    lassi kinnunen You misunderstood me. The glasses do not change the direction of the scrolling. When you wear the 3D glasses (I have this game and the glasses), the background still scrolls the wrong way but it appears to be behind the screen. If they had it scrolling the right way, when wearing the 3D glasses, the background would appear in front of the screen. That is why they have it scrolling the wrong way. Note that when you make your character stand still and the background stops moving, the 3D effect disappears.

    Pretty awesome game actually. I played it on the amiga so i got spared of the 3d effects, the critic should have mentioned it is supposed to be played with special glases btw(may be i missed that part). I think it was an arcade title originally so it is meant to be hard. I thought the gameplay was pretty good, since the control is very accurate and responsive. Music is just awesome. I would recommend it for the Amiga.

    In order to make this game playable I think all it would take would be to find the parallax speed variable and crank it down to about 1/3rd what it's currently set at. There may even be a rom hack out there that already does that.

I can understand you are disapointed that this is no captain Power but at least give this intro song some recognition, and may be do the same and listen to the music playing airwolf on mame. You will feel the power of the 80s (which is at least concerning... Jajaja) but still awsome.

    The visual sickness is caused by the uncommon parallax used. It's inverted and the only reason I can think for is that it tries to create an effect of rotation instead of simply moving in a linear direction. Well, it was an experiment... not a very successful at that :P

Great graphics, great music, solid design... you just need to memorize EVERYTHING and never mess up. With a password system, like the much easier Turbo CD Jim Power game has, this would have been better... ah well. It's a good game anyway. Insanely difficult, but somehow fun even so. The music definitely helps, Chris Huelsbeck is amazing.
