Classic Game Room - IMPORT TUNER CHALLENGE review
Import Tuner Challenge for Xbox 360 review.
Classic Game Room reviews IMPORT TUNER CHALLENGE for Xbox 360 from Genki and Ubisoft, a game which could have also been called TOKYO XTREME RACER something or other.... Drive, collect cars, defeat street racers and modify your tuned rides in this excellent RPG / arcade racing driving game where you conquer the Tokyo highway system at night.

I love the early days of the 360, so many niche and random Japanese games came out at that time.
Man... If I had tons of money I'd make a tokyo extreme racing game. Hundreds of miles of highway. More than 40 tuners and muscle cars. over 20 exotic cars. tons of customization. Easy to understand. tons of bosses. adding the old gangs and making new ones while bringing back old bosses for vengeance while adding more bosses. keep the game simple just like others in the series. dont over do it too much. I just wish more people could push for a game like this to be created for todays modern consoles. even though keeping the same old driving physics

Yeh, B-tier games are kinda dead sadly enough. The same desire you have is for me with REAL hack n slash games (no, dmc isnt hack n slash); samurai western, gungrave overdose, sengoku basara, ninety nine nights !1!, etc
love that classic classic game room intro

This is actually the best handling game of the series. The others are like controlling tireless cars on ice. Though all are fun for the same reasons that he said: an RPG for cars. Grind, grind, grind.
This was my go to game to just chill with when i used to be a heavy smoker... just blaze, melt into the chair and grind it out, sometimes forgetting to challenge racers and doing circuit after circuit of the highways. Good times, good memories.
I really loved the "Tokyo Xtreme Racer" series. My favorites were Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 on Dreamcast and Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 on PS2. I own and love Import Tuner Challenge on the 360 and put many hours in the game but the game lacks all of the cars and highway areas (mainly the long straightaway tunnel at the bottom of the map) of 2 and 3. Had they included all of that in Import Tuner Challenge, it would have been the definitive version of the game. Oh well, I would've also preferred that they had called the game Tokyo Xtreme Racer 4 instead of Import Tuner Challenge as well. I wished for years that a sequel would be made for the 360 or PS3. And for an entire year the game existed and I didn't know it even though I had seen the game sitting in the case at work. I had figured that the $20 price indicated a cheap horrid racing game until one day I happened to check out the back of the game case and realized what it was.... The very sequel I had waited so long for.

Too bad it's a massive disappointment though. There's only like 15 cars you can buy and modify and the highway size is pathetic compared to previous TXR.

Dejected Angel Exactly. I really love the game but it is still pretty disappointing how much was left out. I feel it would have been better to have kept the huge roster of cars with the off names than to went out of the way to get official licensing but only have a hand full of cars. My biggest disappointment was the chopping of available highway in half though.

+Dejected Angel Ik TXR3 had over 200 miles of roadway. But I recall that your car had some special effect that slowed down time.

@@SteamKing2160 i dont follow, what are you getting at?
I loved Tokyo Extreme Racer on Dreamcast. There's always that mystique about the Boss cars. You never know what tuning they have. Just like in real life really. The most well known tuned cars in the tuning community are well surrounded by hype and mystique. A lot of the time the owners refuse to release data on their performance to build myth. That part of it is excellent to expose in a game.
This game was so much freaking fun. So rewarding. So very hard and frustrating.
Another classic Classic Game Room intro? Hell yes!

+JazawaToad I think the review is classic itself.
I wanna see Mark review "C1 Grand Prix Racing Battle" for the Import PS2. It takes TXR, add in the Tsukuba Circuit for circuit racing plus a drift mode, more cars and custom parts than any other TXR title as well. Shameful thing it stayed over in Japan so there's abit of Japanese menus/text to hurdle over but a translation guide will help that out. Graphically still holds up pretty well too. Highly Recommended for TXR & Racing game fans.

I love this game. Such a shame that it is the last installment in the Tokyo Highway Challenge/Tokyo Xtreme Racer series.
If this ever gets on the xbox one compatibility list, Mark has once again spent my money.

I'm glad you made these type of videos. Otherwise I probably would have never played a fair number of these games. These videos helped me play some games outside of my usual comfort zone.
I've fired the ol 360 up to play this game a few days ago, I've been a Forza fan so I have forza 1 to 4 on 360 as well. Import Tuner challenge is by no means a sim, it's just pure fun. PS: looking at Ebay and Amazon prices for this game recently, and it's upwards of $50 and up lol!

Just bought one on eBay for $10, however it is a disc-only, as is and very scratched. Here's hoping a resurface can make it install. No way would I fork over $40-$50 for this game.

Great review, I used to be so addicted to the Tokyo Extreme Racer games!
I've been waiting for you to review this game for years! Now I must get this game soon.
I like how you dusted off the old intros and mixed them up. Brings me back.
Funny you put this up the day after I ordered one of the few remaining new copies of this off Amazon.
The classic introduction! Now to binge on old CGR including several epic 3 part reviews.

Review Auto-Modelista PLS
86s against Skylines, Zs, RX-series, and Aristos in what's basically a drag race? Talk about bringing a knife to a gun fight.
I'm liking this newer format with the comment, then the classical classic game room intro.
Rolling guy and Garage Door...Awesome gaming memories.
Mark,I would like to thank you for this. I love the TXR series but I've never seen this Game before so I would like to thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Just bought it for sale for my Xbox 360 thanks for review. I used to love SRS racing game on my Xbox 360 ages ago.
I liked Tokyo Highway battle, which I believe was the first game of the series. It had a realistic sensation of speed due to the sound effects. The first title on Dreamcast was also good with it's music and graphics of the time.
Bought this when I got my 360 back in the day along with a few other titles. Found it "meh" and rather boring back then. Found it again a few months ago at the back of my collection, and 100% it in a few days. I found it rather strange, but good in it's own way. Tuning aspect was rather good tbh. You see it's an early 360 game. As many "elements" form the PS2 era still lingers in it in terms of gameplay and "exploration".
funfact.. the OG Tokyo xtreme Racer had this "Import Tuner Challegne" in the Loding screen
I love the Tokyo Xetreme Racer games, so how the fuck did I miss this entry in the series?! Maybe because it's on the XBOX 360. Dammit. -_-

Loved the original on the Dreamcast, 2nd was pretty cool too. Didn't even know about this one!
Tokyo Xtreme 2 for the Dreamcast and Xtreme 3 for PS2 were the best. So fun forcing guys onto Wangan and smoking them. Loved how clever the AI was and how aggressive they were. I don't like the look of this latest version. It's missing some of the charm, but its still *Tokyo Highway Battle* (original PS1 title) at its core for sure.
TOKYO XTREME RACER!!! I had it pirate version) for DC! What a blast! Thanks LORD FRIEND!
finally you reviewed it lol i remember years ago asking you to play this game !
Mark is God's gift to all us men.
Wow. I never thought Mark would ever review this.
I've been playing Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 on PCSX2 and I love it. It looks decent at 8x native resolution too.
Damn, today in 2021, it's going for 70-80 USD
Like the 2008/2015 style.
My favorite game ever! :D
oh yeah I've played a ton of TXR3 on PS2, so I recognize some of the teams from that, like team Rolling Guy that all drive Toyota Corolla GTSes (aka the AE86) ... I do love games that have a real interior cockpit view, Need For Speed did that originally but they don't do that anymore in recent games for whatever reason, that's always a nice touch.
Yes, that looks amazing! Mark, thank you for just reviewing this game with an open mind. This is why I love your reviews. Even terrible games you give a chance and can see the good in them. It's a rare occassion when you have nothing good to say about a game, ahem Total Recall for the Sega Genesis lmao.
I play the 2 Tokyos on Dreamcast. great to know that they have a 360 game.
I remember the inport tuner magazine covers in Nfs underground 1 and 2 xD
Does this version need you to drive around and flash your headlights in order to start a challenge?? That was one of the best bits or Xtreme racer
I still have this game, i love it.
Bringing back that classic cgr omg
fun fact original tokyo xtreme racer (for the dreamcast) was sponsored by import tuner
This goes back to the Dreamcast as Tokyo Highway Challenge.
Import Tuner Challenge - The Reasoning of the title name is based on the fact that you customize the cars with a variety of parts (Performance & visual), straight / inspired from the "IMPORT TUNING CULTURE". See: The Fast & The Furious series (Until Tokyo Drift), NFS: Underground 1 & 2, Juiced Series, Street Racing Syndicate. See Magazines: Import Tuner (not endorsed BTW), Import Racer, Super Street, NOPI, Speed Hunters, Performance Tuner. Japanese cars are always the top favorites. ;) I'm kinda sad that this game got no PC release. :(

Nothing new. You could do the same thing with all the classic Tokyo Xtreme Racer series games. Everything was based on Gran Turismo style tuning physics. You should try "Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero" for PlayStation 2 so you see what i mean.
Awesome review never heard of the series but the game looks awesome so I'll definitely be picking up a copy
Honestly if nothing else is graphically impressive, the lighting in this game is really good
Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero is the same as part 2 on the Dreamcast but with slightly netter graphics and more content than '2"
Looks like a Gran Turismo at night tracks.
A lot less cars, no Nagoya or Osaka, less roads in Tokyo, and way less rivals than TXR3. Still enjoyable if you're a fan, but definitely not the best in the series.
Great game, its known as Tokyo Xtreme Racer X in Japan for Xbox 360. 240mph R32 skyline for me.

My grandma and I would always play this before she was murdered. Excellent game!
Easy and cheap to find and add to your collection. Well that statement aged like milk on the counter in the sun during summer
I miss this game
i played this on ps2 at my bros house when i was way younger i ont remember much of it
Gahh.. I wish they make a remake of this with more content!! Simple driving, awesome game.
Import tuna challenge... humm yummo!
Great game but it needed more cars like the previous games. I loved TXR Zero on the PS2
thats the intro from back in 2006
Man I would have bought this game when it came out if I knew it was Tokyo xtreme racer with a different name!
tokyo xtreme racer zero is my favorite and most complete game in the series i must say (ps2)
Man I've missed that intro!
wow, never knew the series made it to the 360... I'm sad that I missed this.
nice, cus a puppy with a backpack makes it faster. subbed
is this game better then the dreamcast titles? because I want to get one of the games but I am not sure on what I should go with
reminds me of Racing Lagoon on the ps1
This was all they had before Midnight Club series. So no its not all that bad dated maybe, yes but Tokyo Extreme Racer 2 on DC or Zero on PS2 (same game with some new content and different title) are probably the best.
Awesome!
its funny how this full game is just a minigame in Need For Speed Underground 2. (I know EA copied from them, but you got much bigger game for the same price)
This looks almost exactly like Street Supremacy on the psp.
