The Dalek capsule is dimensionally transcendental like the Dalek's DARDIS

The first Doctor's lifespan is what might be expected for a Time Lord who stays safely at home. The Doctor burns through his regenerations because he is in constant jeopardy! This first 'renewal' is the only time he survives long enough to wear out his body (at least in Classic Who).

In the novelisation, the reason why the capsule is so much bigger than it looks is because it’s all embedded underground and that the Colony and Lesterson’s laboratory was built around it, so Lesterson could work on it. So the only part of the capsule that is technically in the laboratory is just the tip of the capsule.

Great reaction. I love this story I wish this was recovered. I'll always appreciate William Hartnell because he's the first and if it weren't for him and of course the success of the Daleks the show would have ended earlier but Patrick Troughton was the first Doctor that became the Doctor were all familiar with today and if it was someone else playing the Second Doctor and not Patrick Troughton and his brilliant acting and humour I don't think it would had last as long as it did I love that they took a risk in the recasting the character which was a very rare uncommon thing to do to a television lead in those days I feel writers today in Dr. Who don't take enough risks though Chibnall did but unfortunately unsuccessfully. The process "regeneration" remained unnamed until the Third Doctor's last story it was simply referred to as a "renewel".

It's a great story and such a shame that this and so many others are missing. When original Troughton stories have been rediscovered, like Enemy of the World, it's seeing his physical performance that has massively improved the reputation and perception of the stories. When it works as animation, we can only imagine how much better the original broadcast story must have been!

This is my favourite Dalek story and one of my favourite Troughton stories. I really enjoy the different angle on the Daleks. Also you can see the inspiration for future stories with them which is neat. Looking forward to seeing what you think of the rest of the Troughton era.

In my head canon, the Dalek capsule is a Time Machine, and these are Daleks who fell through time and space escaping the time war

The show would never have existed without William Hartnell, but it would never have gone on for as long as it has without Patrick Troughton. Nearly every actor that has played the Doctor has, in a way, taken something from Troughton’s interpretation.

At some point during the eighth doctor’s life he restarts counting the years of his life for whatever reason. That’s the canonical reason for why nine and ten say they’re around 900
