Nobody could deny that cars had so much style in those days, you could identify any car immediately, so many different shapes, not like today, no style, all looking the same. The MG Magnette in the film reminded me of my dads, he had a lovely example, 9147 UN.

I would like to have any of these cars for sunny Sunday. Love your knowing narration. Cheeky and great. From a Yank in California.

My first car here in Aus. in1968 was a Wyvern like in the first photo-such a good car-tough reliable comfy if a bit slow ! wish we had here so many oldies from the fiftys and sixtys still surviving here-they are my favourites and I had so many way back then-about 20 over the years- Austins Morris Fords Hillmans and Humbers. Thanks for the memories Rick !

I've still a few left

7:50 Those Velocette's, known by the police as Noddy Bikes, were hated by all coppers including my late father. He got knocked off one by a London bus once, and another was involved in a slightly embarrassing incident at the time the police were doing away with the old "Dr. Who" police telephone boxes. One sunny Sunday afternoon, in a town near Heathrow Airport, my old dad thought he'd check in at the nick from a box opposite a pub. Said pub was crowded with people sitting outside in the sun, all watching him. He propped the bike up, took off his gloves and put them neatly on the saddle, took off his helmet and placed them neatly on top of the gloves. The key was extracted from his pocket, on the end of a long chain, he turned round, key poised ready to engage with the lock.......and the box wasn't there! No-one had told him it had been removed the day before. Without a pause, he put the key away, put on helmet and gloves, got back on his Noddy and rode off as if nothing had happened.

Another excellent collection of photos from years gone by. Some quite ordinary scenes and some rare vehicles. Thanks for sharing this collection. 👍

I recall of these cars from my youth in Leicester in the 1950s. The shots showing cars with Leicester registrations (AY, BC, UT) are likely to have been taken in the city or nearby.

I learnt to drive in a Humber Hawk side valve way back when, however, never parked outside Number 10! Greetings from a Brit residing in the USA.

Gone are the days when life was much simpler. Apart from the cars these photos take me back to my childhood and misspent youth in the 60"s. Totally nostalgic. I learned to drive in a Hillman Imp, it was powder blue. The registration numbers ending in RY are common in this collection.

A friend of mine had a Hillman Imp van in the 70's, l used to borrow it sometimes, it was so much fun to drive, so nippy! 😄

Great content as usual Richard, regarding the first badge on the A.C Ace , it is of The 750 Motor Club ,representing the spokes of a steering wheel in green enamel and chrome , a club for Austin Sevens and their derivative ' specials ' of 750 c.c - I was a member at 16 !.

I used to drive a Vauxhall Wyvern as a Taxi in Uxbridge Middlesex. Had to wear a peak cap.

I think the scenery is as important as the cars. May be wearing rose coloured glasses but it just seemed so much better.

If I had a time machine I'd certainly like to go back to the 50s and see what it was like. Not perfect by any means I'm sure, and the cold war was ever present, but by comparison probably a more civilised country to live in than now.

I love old snapshots of cars ; at 4:06 the first car on the left is a Jowett Javelin, the first new car my father bought in 1950. In Belgium (where I live), after the war, man could only buy second hand cars: from1947 to 1950, he had an old Peugeot 202. I love your videos, and the scenery, the people, the mood of them : for exemple, the gorgeous houses at 2:30 Thank you.

I reckon that 'Spitfire' photo is at the Montagu Motor Museum, Beulieu before it became the National Motor Museum. Thanks for the great shots.

The first picture, the Vauxhall Wyvern, my father had a light grey one when I was a young lad many years ago. It always made me car sick that car.

When my parents and I moved from Liverpool to North Wales in 1960 my father did a deal with a neighbour, my dad had a lovely Rover 90 which he swapped for a E series Vauxhall Cresta ( God knows why! ) My dad hated the Vauxhall and soon got rid of it. 😔

Another wonderful selection of great British cars. Very many thanks. I love the Humber outside the No 10 'party'. (Iwill send over some photographs of my cars from years gone by.)

Great memory jerking series with and good commentary. My first car was a secondhand ‘55 Vauxhall Cresta that rotted away at a remarkable pace. Replaced by a used 59 Farina Morris Oxford with a life saving starting handle. Would have loved to own a FORD “3 graces” Zodiac.

Had a colleague with a farina Oxford. Left to go home in it and his feet went through the floor! Rust was a speciality of most cars then. The Vauxhall Victor with the exhaust pipe through the rear bumper ! A shocker. There is a touch of the rose tinted spectacle syndrome about this era where the amount of work to keep them on the road was so much greater than the cars we drive now. Exhaust pipes for instance were prone to rust out in no time but not today. Batteries: my Dad checked the levels every week. Greasing the nipples every 3000 miles on my Pop I think. We can think fondly of those days when we were young and at the same time admire the engineers who produce such amazingly reliable kit now.

15:37 The second badge from the right is the tactical sign for the WW2 British 78th Infantry Division, the two either side look like military badges.

I note in the picture of the Husky and the Morris they both have BC registration code which suggests they are in the Leicester area.

Most of these are before my time (the Minis and P6s were still around in the 70s), but they're still interesting. Very conservative styling. 1:12 "Perhaps there was a party on." (Arf! Little bit o' politics, there!) 😁

I'm older than a lot of the cars in the video! 😔 So many cars my father had, Austin Cambridge, MG Magnette, Rover 2000, Ford Anglia and Pilot to name a few.

some where in a 1970s film elliott gould made a quip about vw if he could see 50 odd years later how that turned out lol

@ 8:06 (the Bentley UU8) the lorry / boxvan in the background looks like an Austin / Morris / BMC etc ''FG'' .............and at 10:30 I think the Landy might be a series 2 - it seems to have the side flair the 1's didn't have - as shown by the rear light / reflector position on the galvanised body capping.

Very interesting and engaging channel. I would like to send you some old car photos myself but can't find an email address.

18 01 Cars are right hand drive in SA so I wonder where this car originates from.

They dont drive on the right in South Africa so that car with a lefthand drive was not in SA as you suggested.
