One reason I love Smallville so much better than the recent Superman movie or TV shows, is that it shows Clark's heart and how much he cares, and why he chose to become a hero. And he learned this from his dad. Jonathan Kent was an amazing man, solid true and true.

You can give half the blame to John Schneider. He has a similar background as Jonathan Kent so he really was perfect for the role. If I’m not mistaken, he also was known for disagreeing with the writers from time to time over how he felt his character was written. Obviously you don’t argue with a southern man portraying one of his own. The script was changed to reflect this. It’s honestly one of the best things about the first five seasons.

One of 2 things happened with Jor-Els message: 1. The show writers meant it to be a message of Clark ruling before changing their mind (as although it teaches harsh lessons, the personality of the Jor-El AI gradually evolves over the course of the series) 2. The message was deliberate reverse pyschology by Jor-El to truly test his sons determination for good, or in the hope Clark would rebel against his wishes for good.

Also, he was just downloaded with the language so maybe some of it still doesn’t make sense to him. Nevertheless, if it was meant to say to “rule,” jor el sent Clark to Jonathan and Martha knowing full well they’re good honest people so their love and how they raised Clark would’ve never made him into a conqueror

I've been a loyal Superman fan since George Reeves' 1950s serial. My biggest complaint with the story line is the insistence on killing off Martha and Jonathan Kent, every time! "Lois and Clark" got it right - turned them into great characters, and greatly enriching the overall story. Even the Bible story of Moses got this one right, or at least mostly right. Mr Moses, Sr is never identified, but Mom is kept around, along with little sis (Kara?)

We see a single ruler as a bad thing, a tyrant or dictatorship, but in all honesty that's not a given. It's entirely possible that a benevolent leader can exist. While we on earth are easily corrupted by power and glory, that might not be the same elsewhere. Then factor in that in most media we know that Jor-El objected to the Kryptonian Council and they out voted him. In his mind at the time democracy lead to the downfall of his race. It's near, if not total, extinction. Wanting his son to lead humanity to a better future, one that learns from the mistakes of his own, is not a bad thing. It's only Clark's fears both of his own power and how people of earth may react to them, that makes this a sinister idea. Then you've got to ask, what is a ruler? Well it's a long straight thing people use to measure and draw straight lines. When Jor-El was asking his son to rule the people of Earth he could have meant guide. Give them something to measure themselves against. A yard stick. In his own way this could be Jor'El simply wishing his son to be the best man he can be and inspire others. Lets face it; unlike Jonathan Kent Jor-El was not a good parent. The versions we've seen of him (in this show alone) showed us a deeply intelligent, but flawed man. Quick to anger and utterly committed to his ideals, but having trouble expressing himself. He was strongly moral and I think also feared his son may abuse his powers. Hence the challenges and obstacles he put in the way. He's a complicated character, not helped by the inconsistent writing over the show

@@radicalreactions1633 I do wonder if you read the full comment. “Rule” has a great deal of different meanings and translations. The AI “shadow of Jor’El” (if you will) could have meant any one or several of them at the same time. Remember that Kryptonian culture is alien. Completely different to that of midwestern America. Clark (and we) do not have the same perspective as Jor’El. We know he was a flawed man, by our understanding, but our understanding is not his.

After seeing how the series turned out, definitely sure Clark misunderstood the message. Jor-El intended for his son to be a force for good, not a conqueror. This was either a misinterpretation or a test.

Then maybe you didn't pay attention when he was contradicting himself every episode. You're the one misinterpreting it. JOR-EL WANTED HIM TO BE A RULER/CONQUEROR/TYRANT, he repeats it in season 10. Or you're just delusional and think that all parents are GOOD, they ain't.

I actually would of liked it more if the voice of Jar El was Zod or Agent of Zod the whole time, and Clark discovered his father later in series to be compassionate concerned scientist. Where voice of fake Jar El wanted him to rule the world. I just couldn’t see Jar El as man who branded, brainwashed Clark as well as others to get what he wanted,

No he didn't, they only softened Jor-el's ass up later, sort of, because most of the fans didn't like him. This ISN'T a "fake" voice of anyone, it was a DIRECT MESSAGE from HIS FATHER IN HIS OWN SHIP. WTF are you talking about? Nobody "branded" anyone.

Jesus is God & He loves you Jesus will soon be seen by all men, women, and children in the clouds. Jesus is returning now! Believe and be saved. Exodus 3:14 (God speaking) And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. John 8:58 (Jesus speaking) Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. John 10:30 (Jesus speaking) I and my Father are one. Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, *The everlasting Father,* The Prince of Peace. Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, *God with us.* John 1:1 & 14 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 And the Word was made flesh (Lord Jesus), and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 8:24 (Jesus speaking) I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. John 14:9 (Jesus speaking) Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? Hebrews 1:1-3, & 8 (God calls His Son "O God" because Jesus IS God in the flesh) 1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; 8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Revelation 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; *and every eye shall see him,* and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. Isaiah 44:6 (God speaking) Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Revelation 1:8 (Jesus speaking) I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, *the Almighty.* Revelation 22:13 (Jesus speaking) I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. ---- There Are None Righteous / How To Be Saved- Romans 3:10 & 23 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Luke 5:31-32 (Jesus speaking)- 31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. 32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. 1 Peter 3:18 (The word “quicken” means “to make alive”) For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Repent of your sins or suffer the consequences. Lord Jesus died in our places personally to take the death punishment that sin deserves and then resurrected by the power of God. Believe this and sincerely repent of your sins each time you sin and you will have eternal life and nothing to fear. Fail to repent and you will end up in the Lake of Fire.
