Original video had ~6,590 views and second video had ~2,360 before being updated.
CITY-TV (more commonly known as Citytv Toronto) first launched in 1972 on UHF channel 79 as an independent station. The station was launched by a partnership of individuals, including Moses Znaimer, who would later go on to pioneer the famous Citytv format. In the early years of station's history, CITY was plagued by financial difficulties and the station sold a minority interest of the station to CHUM Limited, who would later to go on to outright buy the station in 1981. The station's news department first came on air in 1977 and would be branded as "CityPulse". CityPulse was unlike any other newscast seen in Canada, and specifically targeted a younger and more urban audience. The reporting was hyper-local and reporters played a larger role on the newscasts. The station would eventually abandon the news desk in 1987 and allowed the anchor to roam around the combined newsroom and set. The format would be copied later be copied on the Prairies' "A-Channel News" and Vancouver's "VTV News". CityPulse was rebranded in 2005 to "CityNews". The real CityPulse/CityNews format would eventually extend to most major cities in Canada through various acquisitions made by CHUM.
From 2006 to 2017, CITY would be the only station in the Citytv network to have evening newscasts. Long time anchor Gord Martineau, who had headed the station's newscasts since its inception retired in 2016. Soon Martineau's retirement, CityNews abandoned the traditional anchor format and stories were be presented by videojournalists.

The theme music they had in the late 90s was so damn punchy, I love it! Some of my earliest childhood memories of television are connected to hearing that theme.

11:01 This was what CITY should've been all above. This and the 6 intro are perfect. Why did CITY get rid of these? 😡

Vancouver was lucky to get the real "CityPulse" style of news. The rest of us in the original A-Channel territory got some watered down version of it (CityNews).

I certainly feel nostalgic, I'm not from Toronto but in my city Bogotá there is a channel with the same name that gave me those same auroras besides looking somewhat vintage to this day haha Anyway, it makes me smile at least to see something original and where it came from

I'm aware of Citytv Bogota. Honestly they seem to be doing a better job of keeping the spirit of Citytv alive now than the original station in Toronto, which is a shell of its former self.

I'm only a third through at this point, but Imr eally enjoying the exciting punchy Rocky style pace of the music. It seems their reporting was more immediate, excitable, and hyperlocal too. I was amused at thier jacketless presenters and braces!

yikes. prior to the mid 90s, CITY looked like a station mocked by SCTV that was wanting to make a cheaper mock of a station like WPVI. One had to ask "is this as serious newscast?"

I was looking for something else and managed to come across a video that I missed. kzread.info/dash/bejne/l3aZlJmRp5rFodY.html Granted it was incredibly cryptically titled, but it should go in the 2007-2017 opens. Looks like an earlier iteration of those graphics that was only used from 2007-2008.
