Citroen Dispatch (no power) turbo position fault

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

this is a Citroen Dispatch with no power. the van was checked for fault codes and the one relevant to having no power was a turbo position fault.
I checked the turbo position sensor and that seemed fine.
next I moved along to the turbo actuator control solenoid, this was being controlled electrically, and it had a good amount of vacuum supplying the solenoid too, the problem is that it wasn't passing the vacuum through to the turbo actuator.
if I used a hand vacuum pump the turbo actuator moved freely and the position sensor changed its signal output too.
this was almost using process of elimination to find the fault with the no power.
thanks for watching.

@@mechanicmatt871 Matt mate. You might not still be about lol but now you have me curious. When I bought my car, the log was stamped that it had been fitted with a brand new turbo. Recently I've started going into limp mode. I'm assuming it's the same problem as yourself. But when I checked the pressure valve. There is 2 hoses connected and a 3rd hose which looked like it had a small filter on the end which was disconnected on mine. Someone must have forgot to put it back on. Any idea what the 3rd hose which looks like it has a filter on the end is for?

Great video Matt - thank you. I came across it as have a similar issue with Peugeot 307 with the 2.0 HDI DOHC engine in. Turbo is a right royal PITA to get to as is located behind engine without any reasonable access unless drop engine forward. Have no boost, just like this Citreon. Before boost failed, it was pulsing a bit under heavy revs but otherwise engaging. Now does nothing. I've yet to hook up my oscilloscope on the solenoid control lines but that is my plan for tomorrow having watched this and seen the PWM signal going to it on your scope (neat piece of kit that - mine plugs into the mains and weighs a ton!). Strangely - I don't get any error codes or MIL even though no boost. My thoughts are maybe the turbo position sensor on the actuator head is jammed in a position where the ECU thinks it is already boosting (ie it hasn't retracted fully when the vacuum was released) so isn't telling solenoid to apply vacuum to actuator. I've had the solenoid off, in bits, cleaned it, bench tested it for tightness at 0V and full transfer at 12V and it seems ok (on the bench!). Before I try and get into the space of a gnats bits to check position sensor signal line (green in your video), do you think this is plausible. My diagnostics is nothing like as sophisticated as yours, and all I can monitor are MAP, MAF, Intake Manifold Temp, RPM, Load and these all seem ok - can't interrogate what ECU thinks is Position Sensor Value or what it actually wants it to be. Appreciate it's Friday night and this video a few months old, but any thoughts to help out a very frustrated home mechanic / actual industrial refrigeration engineer would be gratefully appreciated.Cheers. R

If your map sensor shows atmosphere pressure with the ignition on but doesn't rise when it should, I think testing the turbo actuator is a valid test.

Thanks rob

I've got the P2562 code and no real power in the van (1.6hdi Peugeot Partner 92bhp) I've changed the actuator position sensor and the solenoid, but still no power. My local garage say it is the actuator itself, but that moves freely and holds pressure when I tested it, so not sure it is that. Would a faulty actuator present itself with complete lack of umpph? I also had an intermittent fault code relating to the camshaft position sensor, I dont suppose that could be related?

@shane555 Kind of, the new actuator I fitted was no good and internally didn't need the sensor position pin at all. I had to fit the new sensor to the original actuator to stop it from being in limp mode, still have the EML on though but no limp mode. I've got a new solenoid valve to fit when I get time but for me at least its no longer limp ffs 🙃

@@michaelakachunk cheers buddy. I'd already fitted a new solenoid and actuator position sensor, to no avail. I'll change the full actuator and fingers crossed it works, but I can't see how the old one isn't working to be fair, it's holding pressure and moves freely 😭

Hi I changed the turbo position vacuum solenoid, that is the solenoid that provides vacuum to the turbo actuator. That fixed this van. It is now boosting properly. The fault code was for the position sensor which is part of the actuator and my first test proved that was working ok it just wasn't getting any vacuum to the actuator so it couldn't move, therefore the position sensor wouldn't change. What fault code do you have? Yours may have the same fault code with a different fault causing the code. If you carry out the the same checks you should only need to replace the part that is needed. Thanks for watching
