Citroen C4 (heater blower not working)

in this video I look at a Citroen C4 with a heater blower not working, the car has had a blower resister and the switch control panel replaced,
it still didn't work so I carried out relevant tests to get it working again.

Mate you are an absolute life saver, thanks so much for your video. If I could add just one thing, I found it impossible to refit the resistor back into the hole but I simply removed the top cover, fitted the resistor in the hole and then clip the top cover back on. Thanks again matey 👍👍👍👍👍

Hi we have the same car but my blower motor fan runs at the same speed regardless of the speed I want. I checked the wire at 10:28 the voltage the same as the battery I wonder why?

Hi Matt; my heater blower is not working as well. I am struggling to get the resistor/control unit out. How did you manage to do it? Thanks!

if i good understood, you said that fake "ground" can come trought "plus wire" when ingnition its off? Best regards

It sounds crazy I know. With the ignition off, The ground wire had a green light on the power probe showing a ground. Although when I disconnect the resister and rechecked the wire it had no ground anymore. When plugged in The ground was coming out of the resister with the ignition off and not from the ground wire. I found a faulty ground connection and it fixed this fault.

Matt, thank you so much for uploading this video, my heater blower stopped working in the winter, and i have been working through the issues that could be the cause, i prefer to solve things myself where possible, i had reached the point where I was certain that it was an issue with the earthing wires but was not sure hiw to go about solving this. Anyway, yesterday I watched this video of yours and it led me to check the two wired connector near the fuse box ( i think maybe brown and yellow/green wires), i may be wrong on the colours, but anyway, having pulled the connector apart, the pins were mis aligned, so i straightened them, and tried the bolwer, i was sooooo happy that it worked, although I noticed that there was quite a bit of heat in the wires after only a few seconds, in the vid you cut the connector off and used crimp connectors, do you recommend that this be done as a way of improving the connection and reducing the heat in the wire? Thank you again 😊

Getting rid of the end of the wires because they had turned black, with high resistance causing heat in the wires. It's mutch better now

@@mechanicmatt871 thank thank you for the reply, having looked again i noticed the plastic covering on the end of the yellow and green wire had become hardened with the heat from the high load and the resistance at that point because when you look at the connector, it looks like citroen have used a connector that is not heavy duty enough for the current that flows when the blower is on number 5, so at that point it causes the resistance which causes the heat, so i too have decided to use heavier duty connectors with the assumption that it will remove the restriction for the current so reducing the dangerous amount of heat. Thanks Matt 🙏

@Rizwan Patel i will have to have a look to see what wires are going where, but if you watch Matts video you can roughly see the position and it is clipped to the right hand side of the fuse box, it is the only connector there with the thick brown wires. What have you tried so far?

@Rizwan Patel i meant to put in my previous reply that you will only get to the wires with the glove box out of the way.

@Rizwan Patel no apologies needed mate, i am less comfortable with electrics on modern cars, i spent ages checking what i could and trying to get help off google, mostly with no luck. I have to say I started off by expecting that it was going to be the resistor, so i replaced that, but still no fan. I couldn't find any information on the fuse that supplies the blower until someone gave me advice on its location from one of the forums, the fuse looked ok. I had already taken out the blower fan, checked it over and tested it off the car, when the motor was replaced i tested again in the car just by putting an earth to the motor connection, so at this point i was believing that the earth had failed, this was when i happened across Matts video and he put me onto the connection that turned out to be the issue, and i know believe that because it looks like Citroen have skimped on the size of the pins in that connector, that many of the mk2 C4 have or will have problems because of this connector and i actually believe that connector is at risk overheating with the potential to cause fire. So which ever way round you do your checks on the components, i would certainly suggest that you check that connector first as i suspect there is a good chance that is where your problem lay.

I use different connectors, if it's inside the car in a dry place I use heat shrink, or crimp connectors, other places I solder and het shrink tubing. Thanks for watching David
