Citizen Soldier (Behind the Scenes) | OK National Guard in Afghanistan

Фильм және анимация

This isn't the video I had originally planned for today, however, after watching this documentary this morning I felt like I had to share it with you guys too. This is a behind the scenes look at the film showing what it's all about, with links to watch the whole thing below (original video: • Citizen Soldier Behind... . I do want to say though that viewer discretion is definitely advised because they not only cover some intense topics in here but also show a decent amount of it as well. Appreciate you and thanks for taking time to learn their stories!
"CITIZEN SOLDIER is a dramatic feature film, told from the point of view of a group of Soldiers in the Oklahoma Army National Guard's 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, known since World War II as the "Thunderbirds.” Set in one of the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan at the height of the surge, it is a heart-pounding, heartfelt grunts' eye-view of the war.
A modern day Band of Brothers, Citizen Soldier tells the true story of a group of young Soldiers and their life-changing tour of duty in Afghanistan, offering an excruciatingly personal look into modern warfare, brotherhood, and patriotism. Using real footage from multiple cameras, including helmet cams, these Citizen Soldiers give the audience an intimate view into the chaos and horrors of combat and, in the process, display their bravery and valor under the most hellish of conditions."

I just don't feel like these guys were properly trained, prepared, armed, equipped or supported. They were overtasked. That said, they gave the mission their all.

Are you just making a broad generalization about the national guard or do you have some interpersonal knowledge about this specific battalions training?

@@austinstults7033 That's a fair question. I have no inside knowledge. My take is based solely on what was presented in the video.

I was there. I was a senior leader with this Unit. We were properly trained, prepared, equipped. Supported? Not really. We gave everything and ended up with 107 casualties. Citizen Soldiers performed magnificently. Greatest Americans I ever met.

@user-ue7jw2bu4u Before he was commissioned Lt Cunningham was one of my troops when he was an MP. I actually got the phone call he died while on patrol as a DACP on Ft. Sill. I knew several other people who deployed with OKNG, primarily in the Special Troops Battalion, one was an NCO who also had commissioned and the other was a fellow cop who was then the NCOIC of the MP platoon. It wasn’t until years later that I found out he had committed suicide and still don’t know much about it.
