    Money matters most. The border won’t get fixed because it’s cheaper labor than the current labor force. Even if a useless wall gets built. It will need 24/7 observations. All adds taxes to the people. The “national guard” has already been paid for. Funny how our system works. The nations guards are flying to Africa. Instead of protecting the nation they are paid to protect.

    Respectfully; The Guard shouldn't be doing that job. That's a job for civvie law enforcement. What you need a bunch of drones (to cover the area) and professional law enforcement on that job. The Guard is not trained for it, nor is it funded for that mission. For many reasons, it is a waste of money and resources to put them there. It also incurs in a huge risk of things going wrong.

  • @phillipbainbridge9107

    @phillipbainbridge9107

    5 ай бұрын

    @@CptFugu You couldn't be more wrong. The National Guard has the same units that the active component has. Congress selects Guard units based upon their role and mission-readiness then funds them for that mission. All of them go through mission-specific training during premobilization and mobilization, which is federally funded. The National Guard is the oldest, best-trained, skilled fighting force this nation has. Before the active component there was the National Guard. They answer the call to deploy when their states and nation need them. They have for 388 years and will continue to do so.

  • @CptFugu

    @CptFugu

    5 ай бұрын

    @@phillipbainbridge9107 You argue about the funding part? Well, Guard units are allocated training, equipment, and maintenance funds based on their mission. In most cases, state mobs consume at least some of their mandatory training time. It also eats on their maintenance, and fuel budgets. It eats maintenance hours, and it consumes vehicle service life. Most guard units (apart from MP's) have zero law enforcement training. They are either, specialists, or warfighters. Premob for border state-mandated missions is largely bypassed because the politicians don't know how the Guard works so, the NG troops there are basically working without proper training, ROE's, and equipment. It is a gross misuse of their training, budget, and capabilities to try to compensate for a lack of law enforcement personnel and equipment to mobilize them for this type of mission. It is even worse to use them as labor battalions to dig holes and lay wire.

  • @CptFugu

    @CptFugu

    5 ай бұрын

    National as in "will work in the Nation's best interest wherever they are needed". The National Guard (and the Reserves) rotates through a number of set overseas missions on a yearly basis. Although those missions could be done by regular Army or contractors, going through the motions of a deployment helps keep the Guard's readiness up. In other words, it gives the Soldiers and leaders a sort of a "dress rehearsal for war". When you are called for real, that experience is a big help.

    Alot of comments wondering why we send these guys to Africa and not the border, so if you happen to see this, and take a couple minutes to read it, then enjoy some more info on the subject. We've been sending guys to Africa for a hot minute, as it is an important location for global trade. Djibouti is about as close to the Suez canal as the US and our adversaries could manage, and while Camp Lemmonier itself does not see combat, it is supporting multiple outstations that do, including some in Mogadishu. Several states have been ramping up deployments to the border as a show of force, and there is only so much the national guard is legally allowed to do. Texas has more than enough troops to deal with a border they have almost fully secured, and should consider redirecting some of those troops to deal with the raging wildfires that no one seems concerned about. Africa is not the location of strictly US operations either, but is also shared by several other western and European nations, as well as some activity from China and Japan. The location is popular due to its proximity to the Suez canal, and it being one of the most stable countries on the continent. Forgein nations constantly compete against eachother for the good graces of the Djiboutian government, in exchange for better trade and more land. A few people have mentioned the Chinese base located about 30 mins from Camp Lemmonier, and although the base is still under construction, a few Chinese officers and delegates have visited the US base as a sign of mutual interest between the two nations, to grow and stabilise the local nations in the area. The only consistent source of combat in the area is Al Shabaab in Somalia, who mainly contend with SF guys in Mogadishu. As of time of writing, Camp Lemmonier has not dealt with any hostile contact directly, at least none that I am aware of. To any Utah guys reading this, its humid, hot, and smelly over there, and the Subway/Pizza Hut is a good way to blow through a few paychecks if you aren't careful. Take care.

Al-Shabaab is brutal. Be safe out there and keep your heads down, Utah Guard. Don't be afraid to feel scared. It keeps you ready for anything ✌️

    These type of deployments should be reserved for the active duty US Army. National Guard should only be deployed overseas in a worst-case scenario. Over the last 20 years, the pentagon has gotten VERY comfortable deploying NG to the other side of the world on a constant basis every since the initial "Backdoor draft" outrage subsided after post-9/11's first deployments. Now that everybody has gotten conditioned to NG being mobilized, they just keep doing it. However, 20 years ago, it was in direct response to a devastating attack on our country, now it's just to backfill the active duty army due to poor retention and being stretched too thin. Let the active guys deploy more, they signed up to be full timers.
