Damn, now I just got one for $400 on ebay w/ 1G x4 SFP NM. Still a solid piece of equipment. Support is till 2027 I believe, but more then capable for a home lab =)

Hi Joshua, that should work just fine. You can connect each access switch with a port-channel that has links on both 3850s. We typically use a router or Metro switch to terminate WAN circuits, but the the 3850 does support MQC so its QoS capabilities are going to be much stronger then previous series like the 3750-X. At a minimum make sure you are shaping your WAN interface to the MetroE port speed if it's subrate otherwise you won't get the full available bandwidth due to tail drops and TCP global synchronization. Or better yet do a hierarchical CBWFQ config with PQ if there is voice. Let us know how it works out.

Update - my super smart and awesome dad, who costars in this award worthy video, says that the 3850 now supports more switches in the stack than 4. It has been increased to 8 or 9 like the 3750s. He wasn't sure if the power stacking maximums have been increased to match though....

If you have a WS-C3850-24S, please take a look at the C3850-NM-2-10G 2 port 10G network module.

+Christopher Salinardi We're waiting for the guy in the striped shirt to return, we understand he's a Linksys Certified Internetwork Expert now with in depth knowledge of untagged switchports and 192.168.0.0/24 networks.

You must be mistaken, he's an expert in 192.168.1.0/24 networks and the believes that default gateways are a complete waste of time.

+Christopher Salinardi I was in a class once and was handed a free Cisco Press book for answering the question "Why does a layer 2 switch need a default gateway?" Ah, those were the days... Then there was that one time at Morton's that you remember... :)

I just purchased 2 for my design but not as access switches; distro switches due to customer cost constraint. I will be trunking two access switches to these two 3850s which will also be in a stackwise & power configuration. a metro ethernet will be connected to it as well. feedback is appreciated. www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/switches/campus-lan-switches-core-distribution/index.html
